P.S. Iain, I'm still considering both diameters at this point. Those offsets were merely the extremes I'm considering at this time.

Gotcha. The 17" sizes are definitely looking better and better to me. Heck, I can always go with something reasonable like a +43et 5Zigen FN01R-C's. Decent offset, cheap and relatively lightweight (17-18lbs).

Or some Volk CE28N's. Similar weight, within a fraction of a pound (Rishie said 14.5-15lbs) but I haven't found an official weight. They're about the same price, Rishie quoted me $2300 for 4 shipped and IMO. they look better:

^ For those prices I would just go the custom wheel route.
If I went 18x9, I'll probably go with either an OZ Ultraleggera or the Enkei RPF1. In the 17x9 size, the RPF1's or even the 5Zigens would be on my list. Since this will be mostly a local car, I'm not extremely concerned about having the lightest wheel possible. And I definitely don't care which wheel looks the best...

I don't think I've posted this in this thread:
The gap is in the neighborhood of 1-2mm. It's not really any worse than the gap between brake pads and rotors but when a rock got in there it was pretty painful. I've keep these wheels pristine, I barely ever even parallel park with them on but just driving down a normal road a rock got in there
I can take a picture at a more direct angle if you'd like, but I think the ideal wheels would be finding a set of the WEDS wheels Arrrrx-8 has (he posted the exact model number back on the first page). He got a great deal on them because of a Tire Rack closeout and in the last few weeks as I've been considering replacing my RPF1's I haven't been able to find them.

Btw, you mentioned you had to "massage" the rear fenders. How much of a massage are we talking about? Did you have to roll the inner lip completely flat? Btw, how low are you in the rear? Have any pics showing f&r 265 fitment on your RP03's?
Thanks!

That's good to know. You ran Toyos this season, correct?

Toyo's - Yes
"Massage" - Not completely flat. I could maybe find another 3mm of clearance if I had to. I am actually rubbing right now, but I believe it's in the front. It's not bad enough that I've felt compelled to fix it.
Ride Height - Approx 13 1/4" fender lip to center of hub

This was another reason I opted for the +35mm RPF1s. I talked with Brian Goodwin about the +45mm RPF1s and he mentioned that they only had about 2mm of caliper clearance. That’s a little less than I was comfortable with, so I opted for the +35mm, which supposedly offer a bit more clearance. I’ll try to mount one up and take pictures tonight.
FWIW, Enkei lists both offsets as the same weight (15.9lbs). Looking at the hub thickness of the +35mm version it must have a different spoke profile than the +45mm, because there definitely isn’t room to take 10mm off of the hub like the FN01RCs.

"Necessary" is a relative term... The BBK is excellent, but there are many other upgrades which will likely yield more benefit per dollar. However, if you want to be competitive at the national level, you will need to take full advantage of the rule-set.

I don’t know where you got that wheel weight quote, but my +35mm 17x9 FN01RCs are closer to 20lbs each. That said, they have a very thick hub, so I imagine the +43mm version has the same spoke geometry and a thinner hub. However, I doubt you’d remove 2-3 pounds of material.

chiket, I dunno if I missed it or something, but any reason why you're not interested in the RPF1? I wasn't at all due to everyone having them and everyone usually getting them in that 18x9.5 size which I felt was a bit unnecessary because I wanted to run only 245's or 255's... so I got the RPF1 in 18x9 +35 and it looks amazing! Broda was even jealous I have a feeling 265's may rub though due to the offset.

I just stumbled across the 2010 Enkei catalog. Looks like the PF01 will be available in an 18x9 +45. No weight listed:

You hit the nail on the head -- based on the experiences of others, a 265 tire WILL rub on the 18x9 +35 RPF1. I'm also concerned that a legal fender roll would not give me enough clearance to run this wheel/tire set-up. Not to mention my concerns with scrub radius...
In terms of my wheel diameter choice, despite the extra weight AND cost for tires, I think I'm going to go with an 18x9" wheel (like the RP03). I don't plan to run in STX indefinitely, and as I hope to take the car to SP or even SM someday, they're much better r-comp choices for 18" than 17" wheels. Down the road, these STX wheels would probably end up being used for my rains.
