2010 C-Stock Roll Call
Moving away to college this year forced me to make a decision on whether or not I wanted to continue autocrossing since I no longer had a car to run in. After racing an MX-5 last year at nationals that naturally was one of the cars I was looking into. I absolutely loved racing it, the only problem I had with it was that it was a little to small for an everyday car. The 370z was way out of my price range and the Solstice I simply didn't like. Blame it on the rotary bias but I have always had a thing for the 8. I've been spoiled with some good cars to run in but the way the 8 handles itself in transition and mid sweep is a thing of beauty, such a blast to drive.

Sorry to disappoint but this is Tom the younger, his son Matt. I've taken it out to a couple local events and so far I've really liked it. Like a mini RX3! I'm still playing with different tire pressures and shock settings trying to get it dialed in.

38-40F / 43-45R worked best for us.
+1-2F/+3-5R. The 285s will add more grip in the rear relative to the front.

Looks like the San Diego NT could have a great mix of cars in the new "C-stock". Buetzer in a Z0K, Heitkotter in a MS-R and Coulson and Ellam in RX-8's. To top things off, on another forum Randy Chase mentioned that the McKee's SSM FD lost its engine, and while it's being replaced, they'll be driving their '00 Boxster in CS at the event.

Andy will be hard to beat regardless of what he is driving. CS should be a dogfight.
at our first event, a 370 raw timed everyone else in Stock, including several National-level drivers in AS (C5) and BS (Solstice). only one event (and it was cold/wet), but oy vey.
anyhow, while I have a world of respect for Andy's sKilZ behind the wheel, he hasn't run the Boxster on r-comps since, maybe, 6-7 years ago and that was on a different wheel/bar set up (17" rims and a big front bar vs. 18" rims and stock bar, presently)...he does still have the big bar option, however.
It should prove to be an interesting battle, for sure. I'm leaning towards Heitkotter, he's already proven to be very fast in the unicorn....err, I mean "MS-R"...and is also at home on less than perfect surfaces.
^You should have a blast...the RX8 is a very fun and user friendly car, perfect for just starting out in autocross
You know, Mark, while I understand you're joshing around with your Boxster vs. RX8 comment, I do wonder if rumors of the '8s death in the new CS might be greatly exaggerated...

no, I'm serious. Driver & setup being equal, a 2.7 Boxster should get stomped by an RX-8. I've mostly been running in this AS, BS, and now CS class since 1996 in numerous vehicles ('95 M3, '99 Z3 Coupe, '03 Z4 3.0, '05 RX-8). The cars the Boxster ran with then can't compete with an RX-8, so why should a car that never really dominated them? The Miata and maybe the Solstice are the cars to worry about, but Andy is an extremely good, experienced driver so he'll be mixing it up for sure. I don't think it's the car to have by a long shot ...
it was extremely unfair not to have brought back some of the other cars that ran with it back then. Some of the decisions/proposals being made lately make no sense at all to me.

The Boxster beat the S2K. It has 10hp and 28ft-lbs more tq than the RX-8 - all while coming in at the same weight and on the same size tires. I can see why you would consider it an also ran.

I think a well set-up and driven 2.7L Boxster could be a serious threat in the class for the reasons Isley has mentioned. However, I find myself agreeing with Sipe on this one -- given equal drivers in each car, I see the RX-8 coming out on top in most scenarios. 4 struts, limited camber and an open diff should keep the Boxster one notch below the RX-8, Solstice & MS-R imho...
I was on top of Saini's S2k for many events in a Z4 3.0 *back then*, I don't think it would hold true today .... it had an open diff too so that's not always a deal killer with the right setup, but the RX-8s full suspension type and adjustment are why it can run way better than the bench racing figures would tend to suggest

I just upgraded to an RX8 from an RX7 almost prepared car. Got tired of spending more time fixing than driving. Will most likely run street tire this year unless I find a really good deal on wheels and tires. By the way any suggestions on on wheels either for the street tires or R Comps that will let me stay in Stock class. I still need to get used to how wide and long the car is compared to the 7.

Now if it rains, the Boxster is the ultimate weapon in CS.
*this all assumes that we don't see the POS narrow @ss F125 courses that we have had the last few years.
Which course are you talking about? Version 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0

Jeff Kiesel is doing the course this year, I understand, so it should be more SD-ish...as in a little faster.
