Why do people hate the rx-8 SO much?
I dont understand why rx7 owners and "sports" car people hate the rx8 so much. Just look at the replies to the " Report: Mazda RX-7 is the new RX-8" article in Jalopnik. Heres a few exerts.
"The rx-8 never really lived to the reputation of the rx-7.
the rx-8 played with small sports cars and tried to be practical and friendly,
the rx-7 played with big sports cars of the 90's and was built to be a sports car.
maybe they are confessing that the rx-8 wasn't a step foward the the rx legacy..."
"That would be nice, but really, how hard will they have to work to improve on the looks of the RX-8? That's a brilliant-feeling car, but holy crap is it ugly and slow."
Any comments?

i don't understand why rx8 owners and "sports" car people care what others say about their car. if you like it, be happy with that. it didn't have the power that people wanted from it b/c a lot like low end torque and american muscle. the 8 was designed to appeal to more people, be somewhat practical, and yet handles like none other in its class. enjoy it and don't worry about what others say.

the people they speak of nowadays are stupid teens, all they want is a faster car. i got my 8 3 weeks ago, it was between the 8 and a s2000; i eneded up choosing the 8 cuz it looks superiorly more beatiful and i like the drive better, speed was not a factor i have a 07 tl-s and a kl-ze mx6 for speed, the "people" they talk about are morons who underestimate the renesis motor just like people underestimated the kl-ze, it's all about preference.
comparing the rx-8 to a rx-7 is stupid, but then again stock the 8 makes like 238hp n/a and the rx7 was 270hp w/turbo? (correct me if i'm wrong). in the end i love the rx-8, companies are making cars with 300+ hp for what? to speed? i mean come one here in america the highest speed limit is 70-75mph, why do you need a car with an exaggerated amount of hp.
idk it's just my .02 cents

I've heard it said a few times now that the 8 is "ugly" .
That really surprises me - I'm sure 99% of people think it looks great .
I get a sense that only old school rotary guys say that - they are looking for ways to dis the car because they are dissapointed with the performance ...

then it was like 130, then 168 hp, NA
For Turbo, FC made about 180 hp, and FD was 255, and later the Spirit-R model pushing 280hp (Japan's limit back then)
lots of idiots and those 2f2f wannabes think that "Power = Fast", these morons dont know to win a race, you actually need good suspension setup and good set of Brakes.
So when Rx-8 came out, they was like "omfg, only 238 hp? fuxking my civic has 200~ wtf fuxking slow" lmao.

thanks!! but still the renesis motor is impressive in my standards,
SA22C, which means the original RX-7, makes about hmm was it 110 hp?

The RX-8 target market are professional, tech savvy guys in their 30's - 40's. I think those of us that fall in that category (or did fall in that category) appreciate the 8 for what it is. If you buy and 8 and then complain about how slow it is then you should not have bought it in the first place.
If I wanted a street bruiser I could have bought a number of cars but they would have been disappointing in a number of other ways. My only gripe with the 8 is the reliability aspect and the fact that Mazda did a shitty job of torture testing it.
I have owned a number of fast cars and having a car that makes HP and TQ easily is definitely no fun because eventually you start breaking drive train parts on a regular basis and upgrading those parts is mega expensive. Either we no car will satisfy your every need, every car lacks something.
