A guy I know with a mid 90s 5.0L mustang with mods bashed on my car constantly, until a ride left him screaming and double fisting the oh **** handle.
They can talk numbers all they want. It's meaningless until they actually drive one. And once they do, they will understand that the numbers don't matter any more.

People with "those other cars" have lots of problems. They are messed up. That is why there's all these messed up comments all the time.
Stop assuming those people are sensible people like rotary drivers are. They are not. Once you understand that, it all makes sense.

I'm a FD guy, in 2004 I bought a 2004 rx8 for a dayle driver after two mounts i sold it back. it just doesn't feel like a RX, its missing some zoom zoom. its more practical then a rx7 but once you drive a rx7 FD3s you cant down grade to a 8. no offence its a nice looking sedan. i would love to buy another one for my lil sister. she loves the thing. me personally if i did buy another one i would junk that junk Renison and go 20B or 13RE. that's what Mazda should have done. no offence to all you 8 guys
p.s I'm looking to buy a 2004 rx8 but its only to go RE if you are selling pm me 1" i am so going to get flamed on "

I COME IN PEACE
You said it best.... Acouple of my friends have 8's and those thing handle like your wouldnt believe.. Actually most of my friends are 8 owners... To me alot of 7 owners only care about the power and 1/4 mile times. Not too many of them are friendly to the overall rotary communiy.
The reality is,
it was hard to follow up after having a 250hp twin turbo car. But the Rx was always a track car. not really quarter mile. And to me they captured that with a 8.
So when some people have a rx7 with 400whp. Ive never seen any other 4 door and 4 passenger car keep up as well as 8's do...
So with that said i tip my hat to you 8 owners for putting up with all the **** people talk just because something is different

you taken out what? a FD is lighter and comes factory 255(1993-1995) horsepower (255-192=63hp above you) a FC can out run you! the why 7 and 8 owners don't get along is simple. cuz 8s give RX a bad name! plz don't say anything unless you can back it up...

p.s its sad.. the fastest 8s aren't even running 8 motors instead they go 13RE, 13RAW or 20B.. that says it all!

Were all part of the same community are we not??? comments like that give us 7 owners a bad name.....
I have a friend making 340 with a boosted 8 ???.... As any car, with new technology comes new barriers to over come.... Im sure when mazda first released a 1.3 rotary there were people just like you saying how slow and impossible they are to make power.... now look at where we are.....
If more people though like you rotary would have never progressed to where we are now...

People hate what is different because it's different. If only us rebels would conform and drive Mustangs, Camaros, or Vettes, we wouldn't be hated any more.
There is a car show every sunday in a Walmart parking lot near here, and last time I went, there were a few "american cars only" signs scattered around, one leaning up against a Mazda6 (which I thought was pretty humorous). Another time I had someone from the show yell "ricer!" at me passing by in my bone stock 8.
I hate being like everyone else.

Obviously you choose what to reply to in the post. I said upgrade the driver not that the Rx8 puts down better numbers. Duhhh the FD puts down better numbers. I just wanted to grant you your wish. No hard feeling buddy.

I have a 2002 Red Corvette with 20K miles. I bought my son a 2004 Mazda RX-8. The Vette is fun, fast and draws alot of attention. The RX-8 is fun, fast and draws alot of attention as well. Between the two, I like driving the RX-8 more. The RX is an automatic but with the steering wheel shift option and the floor shift option as well, which is a blast. It hugs the road better than the Vette and talk about high end revving. My son never has an empty tank cause the rule is, when Dad borrows it, I have to fill it up. His car is always has a full tank of gas. Once when I was driving my son's RX, I had some little dweebs park next to me at the mall and made some comments about the car being slow. I just held up the keys and asked if they wanted to take if for a drive to really find out. They Jumped at the chance and then I told them to **** off. So.....for the dweebs out that that don't like the RX-8....and drive around in a ragged $3K car of mixed body partsand colors, hopefully some day you'll be able to afford one and be able to drive around with that smile.

I sold my rx8 a while back, the only thing I didnt like about it back then, was its lack of power to the amount of gas it used.
I later picked up a GTO. It gets about the same MPG, with my bolt on's about double the power of the 8 and is a blast to drive in a strait line, if you can keep it in one. It is also scary to drive at times, brake fade comes on quick, if you dont have realy good tires you might find your *** end comming out on one side.
I miss the Rx8 because it was fun to drive. It's lack of power you would really only notice if you raced a faster car. The brakes are/were the great, the car was solid and I just loved to see how hard I could hit a round about while trying to keep my face off the glass. My GTo feels big and long, some people track them, but I wouldn't.
That said, I miss the Rx8 for normaly daily drives. It looked nice and people any place I went told me "I love it" or "I want that car" When It comes down to it, 95% of my driving is normal to work and back drives.
The GTO is fun, I love to slam on the gas when I get a clean shot. 140+mph comes up realllllly fast, that you really gotta watch. I'd be very afraid to have to slam on the brakes in the GTO. I also don't like to hit turns hard, I feel lots of roll. Very few comments from people other then guys, that know about the GTO. I've been asked more then a dozen times, "Is that a Grand Am" (not when its running though lol)
I don't go to the track, and almost never race. Power is fun, and all, but anytime your in a car that comes from a family of fast cars and it isn't people are gonna hate. Ask the DSM guys what they think of the new Eclipses
While I sometimes think wow this thing is fast, when I race a mustang or something. My friend in a supercharged Viper always reminds me, you can never win in the end.

I got the "RX-8 sucks" a lot when i first bought it. I don't really care because "Their" only argument was that it wasn't fast in a straight line.
So, if I buy an SUV "they're" going to tell me it sucks cause it's not fast? I feel people get the misinterpretation that it's the predecessor of the RX-7 and looks like a fast car so it should be a fast car. Truth is they know nothing about the RX-7 or rotary engines for that matter.
(Point in case, my metaphor for this is like when you meet a really beautiful girl but then you find out she's dumber then a box of rocks and can't stand her ignorance.)
Shows how much they know, but if they really want to talk **** about acceleration I'll challenge them with my ugly looking AWD Talon to give them a real surprise. Looks like crap(lil bit of rust hah) but moves like hell, still don't care, still not the fastest car on the street but it doesn't bother me. I know some ******* out there has more undeserving cash then me with a faster car, but I take pride in the cars I own - with my own personal touch.
I bought it for it's looks, I still don't mind the fact that everywhere I go people ask me "Is that a rotary?", "Nice ride", "Ooh! I want that car". Point is only the people who are big on number's and statistics really don't like the car , on the other side of the spectrum people who don't know absolutely anything about cars other then "I turn the key and it goes" - love the car.
First time I sat in one (from an acquaintance) I fell in love with the interior within 30 seconds.
First time I drove one I fell in love with the precise & nimble handling characteristics.
First time I opened it up above 6.5k I was sold, didn't bother to waste my time to test drive a 350z or something of the like.
With that being said, only enthusiasts like us, can greatly appreciate our cars. Did it have a few hiccups in development? Yes but name a car manufacturer that doesn't have some product (whether it be transmissions, interior components, or tail lights) that fail continually and thus issue a TSB or recall. **** is meant to break and I'm glad it does because it keeps the economy going and provides people jobs. If they made the perfect car that never broke It'd be way to expensive anyway.

The fastest stock talon made is the 1994 tsi model. A stock 6sp rx8 has more power and will beat it in the 1/4 mile, according to magazine stats. The AWD Talon will probably have an advantage on launch.
