Swap 4 Rotary into Rx 8
#76
You probably won't be able to find a complete 4 rotor for sale. A kit would probably be the easiest route to go and will set you back $9,500. With the price of housings and side plates I would say estimate on about 20-25K for the motor. Getting it to fit I'm sure could be done, though the subframe crossmember will need to be moved forward and since you'll need a custom oil pan anyway you could probably squeeze it in.
Here's a little something to help you out Linky.
Good luck!

Hmm, I went to the drags yesterday and there were at least 3 quadrotors there, the mazsport bmw and 2 fd's (i forget who they were)
If you can fit a quadrotor in an FD i dont see why you couldnt do it in an rx8
The problem the quadrotor guys seem to have is trying to tune them

I think you'd spend 20K in electronics and tuning alone once you get the motor IN the car. Hell race teams spend that much about that much to get the same on pushrod V8's nowadays.

Damn Mazda, they need to make this happen. A 20B Renesis theoretically could produce about 350 crank HP in it's stock form. That would be a nice RX8! I hope one day I have a ton of money as the 4 rotor is very appealing and isn't a crazy idea. A N/A 4 rotor would be nice, you could have tons of reliability (if it was tunned and set up right) and produce tons of HP w/o the need of FI. 2.6L isn't big by any standards, I'm tired of Mazda's B.S. with this 1.3L design. The renesis would be nice in a go kart or a Lotus Elise but they should scrap this 1.6L concept and go bigger. Add at least a 3rd rotor!!!! I love the renesis engine but the RX8 is too heavy of a platform in my opinion. If the car was around 2000 lbs it would be a total blast. Not that the RX8 is bad, but it just seems they could have done more.
