Well, part of it is...
how many times have you ever dinged someone's door accidentally? even if it didn't cause any damage? i have.

how many times have you knowingly and intentionally caused very very noticable damage to someone's expensive property for no purpose except to be an ***?
i never have and i never will. door dinging is bad but much more forgivable just because it happens to everyone and it's usually very minor.

i'm sorry to hear about the damage though. that really sucks.

no ding is the same as no damage
never
I would not call $250+ to fix a ding minor
BTW,I'm feeling guilty about hijacking this thread so unless someone provokes me I'm done posting on this subject

Actually it does matter.

I can't think of many circumstances where your car would be in a location to be "accidentally" shot. Perhaps this is common in Tri Cities, but I don't think so. Virtually anywhere your car would be, if it got shot at, it is because someone is doing something they shouldn't be, which makes them responsible. Now, if you take your car out in the woods and go hunting I could see that one, but do people really do that????

I was wrong about the $250. The wife wrote a check for $163.00 to have a ding fixed on our 8. However, it felt like a $250 ding

My wife says it was a minivan's door that hit the 8. As my wife was walking to the car the owner of the van was looking at our 8 and walked away once he realized she was the owner. The problem is my wife did not notice the ding till she got to work and obviously the van driver did not own up.
The ding was about the size of a nickel.

Agreed, if someone is being malicious it will bother me a hell of a lot more than if they're just being careless.

I was not talking about how it would make you feel. I'm talking about who is to take responsibility for the damage.

Wow. He must have really flung that door hard!!! The usual car door dings I've seen have been very tiny and barely dented. Another reason why I don't want to park near any other vehicles.

Well,we usually park in the back 40. However,my wife parked up front this time because the store lot was almost empty and she was going to be quick. The van driver had his choice of spots to park and decided up close to the 8 is where he wanted to be.

I think I will probably just always park away from everyone whenever possible. Even if it is pouring down rain. I have legs, I can run!!!
