Extremely satisfied with the car, i have purposley missed the turn on the way home to drive the 8 longer because i enjoy every aspect of the car and love the attention it brings when people look and step inside, plus the rensis is freakin amazing and the aftermarket magic makes it even that much more addicting, unique car, LOVE IT!!!!!!!

ps: gas mileage is horrible =)

the car is great. its slow enough at low revs to be controllable and civilized, but that goes away quickly when u reach higher revs. the shifter is awesome, probably one of the best. compared to friends cars, nothing comes close. i paid 22 for mine, so the price of less than $100 per HP is awesome. nobody seems to want to sit in the rear seat, but thats not important, it looks small, but it fits people well. gas mileage gets annoying, but its worth it. i bought the car for the engine: figured out how a rotary worked, and had to get one.
the overall ratio, rpms, and gears all make excellent sense: 3rd gear, 3000 rpm, 30 mph; 3rd gear 4000 rpm, 40 mph. its excellent around town, i just want to take to a track to feel the limits.

I was highly satisfied. Until...

My sun visors MELTED apart (the two pieces are no longer held together by anything other than the wires, and now just hang there, Mazda said they need to SPECIAL ORDER them from japan and I'll need to wait a month wt??)

My RX-8 Panel in the doorframes on both sides are coming off.

My air conditioner **** fell off.

My seat warmers do virtually nothing.

My car was hit and run.
My car was keyed.
(Granted these don't have to do anything with the car itself just bums me out)

And tonight to top it off, I am visiting my mom and the car has been parked outside (in heavy rain). Well, 10:30pm and I'm about to go home, guess what. MY CAR WONT START. The battery is alive and well, I heard the whirring when I turn the key, but it just won't catch. (forgive my lack of technical knowledge, I am only soso with cars).

EXTREMELY ANNOYED.

The drive on the other hand is simply amazing.

Highly satisfied.

I was worried about the low MPG and cars with defects. I think, knock on wood, I got a nice one. Highway plus sporty driving is at 20mpg so far. No flaws, except not enough excuses to go "drive"

New member on the forum. I have had a AT blue 8 in SE Asia for two months. In 30+ years of driving this is the most fun I have had, I don't care about the consumption!

If 92% of 1,000 plus owners on this forum are either highly satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their vehicle, there is no way that this vehicle was released as an "experimental vehicle". The car has first-year issues for sure, but Mazda obviously conducted considerable development effort over several years before releasing this car for production and they are making a good faith effort to work out the problems.

The following is my opinion:

The RX-8 is not a daily driver, although many owners use it successfully in that role. It is a car for enthusiasts who are willing to put up with the idiosyncracies of such a unique, state-of-the-art vehicle. If you depend on it for your daily driver, you are making a mistake. Again my opinion. Apparently the problems you are having with the car are causing you great angst so in the interest of improving your mental condition, you may want to consider getting rid of it for something more bland and more reliable.

Have a nice day.

not a daily driver? but wasn't that what mazda was aiming at? a sports car that could be practical:? otherwise, they could've had a pure 2-door sports coupe.

Excellent price,

By far the best handling and excitement for the money. Only problem so far is getting the wife out of the driver's seat:p

Fuel consumption

Rotaries have been known as gas guzzlers, that is the big drawback to an otherwise exhilarating driving experience. I drove an RX7 for years and gladly paid the fuel penalty. Fortunately my 2005 is my pleasure vehicle that I am able to park for day to day drives, I use my prelude v-tec for daily grind driving (fuel economy).

I believe the RX8 is still the best bang for the buck, regardless of the fuel consumed.

Your lucky over here in frost bitten rain soaked Scotland we are paying £0.79 per litre of fuel, thats about $1.50 (USD), because of the thieving English Government

But I too dont care, I just keep pumping it in my new toy done about 650 miles so far and spent roughly 220 (USD) in fuel!!!!

but anyway, Im looking forward to when im a little older (im 24) so the insurance premiums start dropping a bit more because currently im £570 ($1083 USD) fully comprehensive
exchange rate 1.9 usd to the pound :D

PS
Like your Bikes, ive got a Kawasaki GPz900r or as you call it your side of the pond a Ninga 900 :D

Graeme (RX8 231 ps) :D :D

It's amazing that after having owned this car for about 6 months already, I still can't help but look back at my 8 as I walk away from it. The compliments are still coming pretty steadily from onlookers...I just don't think I'd feel this way about any other car...the 8 is so unique

It is a great driving machine. It worries me that I just got a used Mazda6 and I feel more confortable commuting on the 6. I guess I am getting old or may be is because in Houston Heavy trafic (90 miles per day commute) I care less if the 6 gets hit.

I am disappointed in the cheap plastic used inside the car, the lack of color choices inside (most of the inside is any color you like so long as its black) and the dealers' lack of knowledge....they should have had a training program or a better training program on the famous Renesis engine for dealers.

All that being said, I don't regret buying it for a minute. I'm grown attached to the car. It's as imperfect as anything or anyone else in my life that I'm attached to!

I voted highly satisfied. I bought a red GT (no extras) in August of 2003 when it first hit the ground in the US and opted for the Mazda buy-back when the opportunity presented itself (please don't hate me). Nothing to do with the car, but because.....well, the "opportunity presented itself". I put about 5k mi on that one. I owned a number of RX7's over the years (in the day) and have always loved the rotary engine and hated the MPG, but not enough to stop me from buying it. If the absence of turbos will return the rotary to the reliability of the 80's RX7's, I will remain VERY happy. I never had a problem with any of the 5 I owned and all had well over 100k when I sold them (for good money). Also don't think the value situation that is talked about so much will hold long term. RX7's always did very well on the used market (including the maintenance "nightmare" FD's) and I believe these cars will too....just not right now. Just couldn't resist when they started shipping white to the US and bought the one in the pic last week.

You will have to get a technician to read the DTC code in order to get an answer to your question. Take the car in for service and have them read the code.

not sure what to think!

the rx8 is a very hot car.. but way too complicated. you have to add oil in between the actual oil changes.. it matters what kind of gas you put it and where its from... my car would shake violently then just cut off.. its been in the shop for over a week and the maker of the car in california has no idea what is up with it. i love my rx8, really! its blue with 18 inch black racing rims with a chrome lip and blacked out windows.. but sometimes i just wish it had a regular engine, lol! :p

i must say though.. we bought my 8 the month they came out so ive had it for awhile. people stare and ive had a few times where they almost caused a wreck, lol! even going thru drive-thrus for food the people at wendys.. mcdonalds..wherever are like phat car! a lot of them really like the color, too. i saw where someone has had theres for awhile and cant walk away without looking at it. i have that problem too! sometimes i peek out my window and just glance at it. :D

since its been gone for over a week.. i really, really miss looking out the window at it.
