Thanks, now I know I am not the only one who drive the 8 like a cart. I still have a challenge with that. :D

I couldn't be happier with my 8. I've had it since March and I can't wait till I figure out a good reason to tell my wife why I need my first mod...

more problems then I thought..

Overall I am happy with my 8. I must say I have had more problems with this car then I would have thought. Most recent problem was the sun visor breaking from just moving it the way it is supposed to move.

Fogging of the internal display and a hazy film on the inside of the headlight lens. Everything has been warranty work; I have yet to find out about the sun visor.

Anyone else plagued with nickel and dime issues?

I would still recommend this car to anyone though.

I just got mine yesterday... and I have to say....

DONT BUY THIS CAR!!!!

Unless...
... you dont mind taking 15 co-workers out for mini test drives on your first day of ownerships
... you dont mind the whining from friends that spent way more money on way less car
... you dont what kids at the side of the street literally walking into each other and yelling about how awesome your car is
... you dont like being stared at by hot women. I've owned some nice cars in the past, but NOTHING, i repeat, NOTHING turned heads like this car. Why oh why didnt I get it when I was still single!
... you dont want to keep explaining to jealous co-workers that your not rich and that the car is actually rather affordable. I had to explain this to about 20 people today
... you cant control yourself. This one is serious actually. If you dont have discipline, dont buy this car. I consider myself a pretty responsible guy, but something wierd happens every time I come up on a twisty stretch of road. My right foot gets heavier... I know its not me, my foot must literally get heavier... cant explain it I get mad at my foot each time, but midway through the ohhh so smooth turn I forgive the little guy again. Heed my warning or you may have many many speeding tickets.

So, if you can live with all of the above... this fresh new owner says...
BUY THIS CAR!
Unless of course, you live near me... then forget it! Go buy a civic :D

With a ratio of 42:2 of highly satisfied to highly dissatisfied why is there so much negative pub on this server?? Proud owners speak out!
Your probably going into the performance threads more often then not; therefore, you'll run into alot of people who are disatisfied with performance. Mainly, lack of horse power.

Ok... first off, this aint a gripe about gas milleage... I knew it wasnt an economy car when I bought it. Im just trying to do some math since I just got back from my first good long drive.

I just drove to niagra falls, and more then halfway back on a tank of gas. Got about 460 kms out of the tank, and when I refilled I put 53 litres in. Problem is, I cant think in litres, even though im Canadian. 460 km / 53 litres... what does that work out as in mpg? Sorry, not a math wiz

Also, I believe the rx8 has a 60 litre tank, and judging from when the gas warning light came on, Im guessing the warning light kicks in about 50 litres. So you have 10 litres of fuel remaining once the light comes on? Is this true?

Convert KM to miles and liters to gallons and do the math. It goes something like this:

460 x .6214=285 miles
53/3.8=13.95 gals
285/13.95=20.43 mpg

Tank capacity in liters should be about 60 liters (15.9 gals x 3.8), so you are correct in that about 10 liters should remain if the light comes on at 50 liters.

Thanks tons ( metric or imperial! ) Go48. 20mpg should basically be the expected norm going forward too shouldnt it. Which should be about what I will continue to get if dont beat on her too much? From quicky math, its pretty safe to assume once the light comes on I have about 35 miles left in the tank. Thats good info to have

That's US gallons, which I believe is Imperial gallons (in case you were serious).

Yeah, your 20.4 mpg is pretty good. Of course, that will vary somewhat depending on the driving conditions, temperature, barometric pressure and so on. I have averaged 20.2 for just under 8K miles, but the average at fillups has varied from 16+ to 24+. Anything in the 18-20 range is pretty good in my opinion.

How do you get to 24, just curious? Is that just good weather conditions? I kept it under 4K rpm most of the trip, toogled off the AC when it wasnt needed, and hit a top speed of about 130 kmh on the highway, average probrably 115. Not sure if their was anything else I could do to make the mileage better. For the record, it was about 30 C for temp and pretty muggy ( lots of moisture in the air ). Those are about the worst conditions for gas milage arent they? Cold brisk days are about as good as it gets I think... never much thought about mileage in the past... but then, I never really did long road trips with mostly highway ( aka, boring ) driving.

Gotta say though, the RX8 is a very comfortable drive for extended durations. I was much more comfortable then I would have been in my old MX6.

Thanks again Go48.

Cruise control set at 75 mph, cool temps in April, many miles without stopping. It can be done.

Unique and Quirky often go together!

I like my car to be different from everthing else on the road (say "unique"). This is why I like Mazda's. From my '89 MX-6 w/ all wheel steering ... to my RX-7 convertible ... to my recent addition, the "8". Who wants a stang or a vette, there are sooo many of them (although they are nice). So with uniqueness comes "quirky". Bad oil seals, bad gas mileage, flooding....all little prices to pay in order to be unique. Enjoy the stares!

I am disheartened. I waited nearly 2 years for the 8's to come to market and bought the first one delivered in my area. I love driving the car and it is beautiful BUT my 3 air compressors and dropping gas mileage - now to 14mpg, are taking their toll. If that is not enough, tonight I was going about 50mph and another compressor started ticking - made its roar and then started the buzzing sound. I am not driving the car hard or anything and it is frustrating to deal over and over with this. I agree with all of you that the car is great yet not everyone is issue free. Alas, I am afraid that I may fall into the mundane crowd and jump into a CRV. Why? When I bought the car I had no idea about the MPG hey it was 18mpg as far as I knew and who would know about AC parts. I am glad though that there is such a beautiful unique car as the RX8 for the $$$.
