Hate to butt in but you sound negative towards a car that is not only competetive but superior in many ways to most in it's class. So why don't you take a hike. Your a troll.

Yes, there are many reasons to buy the RX-8. Handling and power are two of the reasons. But you really shouldn't fool yourself into thinking that the RX8 can outperform the WRX STi and the EVO. It can't. That doesn't mean the RX8 isn't a "better" car. It doesn't mean I'd rather have an STi or EVO. It doesn't mean it is "competitive". But numbers don't lie. The STi and EVO are0.5 to 1 second faster 0-60 and has better skidpad numbers.
Can the RX8 outperform most cars on the road? Yes. But not those two.

sorry to break up this little spat, back to topic,
Highly satisfied.
Proud to be its owner. If I had to switch careers and be a car salesperson I could sell this car easily.

Highly satisfied. I have only had my 8 for about two weeks now, but I haven't loved a car this much since my 1985 RX-7. That car had a short but fulfilling life until it (and me) rolled and flipped end over end a few times. It was quite a spectactular end to my first rotary love affair.

RX8 is great. Not all the dealers are though. If you want a great deal call Mountain Mazda in Hamilton, Ontario. Ask for Peter at
1-800-663-8571. I know a few others on this sight have dealt with him as well.

As an overall package, I'm not even considering those cars because they are souped up econoboxes. But they are fast.

We all know the Pros of owning this car...
Here's my Cons so far:
* Crummy A/C
* Occasional (once a week?) failure to start on first key turn
* The sunroof should be a moonroof (as it is advertised as being everywhere but the window sticker)
* And what's up with the weird storage compartment in the
center console that nobody can reach no matter where seated??
Basically I thought more consideration would be given to fine details--my somewhat satisfied vote

RX8 is far from being a pure sports car. Sorry, it just ain't. RX8 is a phenomenal car but not a pure sports car. You drive S2000 then you know what pure sports car feels like. You drive Lotus Elise and you would know what pure sports car feels like. RX8 still feels floaty, understeers, too quite, and unconnected feel to the pavement when driven to the limit.

I think the thing I love most is simply looking at my car. It is just such a beautiful body design, and it is what made me fall in love with the 8 in the first place.

Can you seriously compare this car to a lotus or a 911 that costs 4 times as much? GET SERIOUS!

No Freaking Pistons
If you're over 5'10" in an S2000 you won't be driving much further away than the 7-11 for a rack of Bud....
It's a nice car,I looked at the RX-8s,S2000's,350z's,Infiniti's 'Z' car,and the Soobie WRX....and bought an RX-8.
Reasons?
Well,in a nutshell:
S2000- I'm too tall at 6'1".....
350z- Initially my first or second choice to the RX-8.
(I had a 1980 RX-7 GS w factory IMSA kit back in the day,so I am a bit prejudiced.)
The Z's got really shoddy build quality, but this car's got the eye-rattling torque,if not the finesse.
Horrible rear-view glass, that stooopid stabiliser bar thru the trunk renders the already tiny space nearly useless.
Picture a 21st century '69 Camaro with a bit better handling and you get the picture.
Nissan's been struggling w their interior build quality across the 'board, not just the 350z's....my pal's 3.5 Altima 5spd has had
the leather seats replaced due to seam failure at 3000 miles, and the ones they didn't get the 1st time are crapping out and due for replacement as I post this.
Infiniti's Version-Better build quality but overpriced for what is,essentially,a loaded 350z with a trunk.
The RX-8,which I bought,has a FAR superior build-quality to all of the above excepting the S2000,(Honda's beyond reproach,imo,in build-qual-)
I didin't want a BMW or a Lexus,and I already have an SUV (a 4-Runner)
Anyhow, the rotary engine (12A) and I already have a happy history together, and the 8's so far a good car,all 1450 miles of it.
My (well-deserved and WELL-DOCUMENTED)annoyances w the dealership aside,I'm very happy with the car and look forward to my warranty running out so I can modify the f*ck out of the engine without guilt.
In the meantime, every time there's a new TSB I'll be seeing those guys for a top-shelf loaner w a copy in my hand, taking notes the whole time.

Highly satisfied so far.
I consider it a great compromise between sportscar- and everyday to-work-and-back car. And the most beautiful one I can imagine.
Not everything is perfect, OK, but some other things easily compensate it.
As for performance, in Germany you're used to see all types of high powered cars going at or near top speed on the autobahn. The RX-8 simply has enough performance for me. If you're ever been taken over by a Porsche Turbo that runs top speed (if you manage to identify it), you'll simply know that you're not the man with the fastest car on the road and not even somewhere near it. So what? I still love my car as much as I did before and prefer to move it at around 110 mph anyway.
And I love the engine's flexibility and sound. It all depends on revs and gears, 3000-peaceful, 6000-not-so-peaceful, 9000-jetfighter.

Overall, now that I've lived with it for awhile (versus merely test drives), it's even better than I expected. Everything works so well together, you end up melting into the machine, if you know what I mean. I'm usually *very* picky about my driving position, I can never get comfortable in most cars. But in the 8, it seems almost every seat position/recline is comfortable. Combined with the glorious sound, short shifter, light clutch, quick revving engine... it's just driving heaven.
My only complaint is my keyless entry only works every other hour or so. Seriously, it's bizarre, worked fine all day today (showing car to co-workers every hour or so), but now it stopped working again. There's a thread on the issue... annoying, but not a biggie. Doesn't affect the driving pleasure at least

OK, OK, I'll have to upgrade my vote from somewhat satisfied to totally satisfied. After having lived with the 8 for a little while, I think that the car offers a compelling value proposition. So much so that the small issues are far outweighed by the positive aspects of the car. I'm having a blast with it.

I'm thrilled with my one-week-old 8!
My only real complaint is the 17mpg (and barely 200 mile range to 1/4 tank) I'm getting, but I read these forums before I bought it, so I knew not to expect the EPA estimates. Maybe it'll improve in time (550 miles now).
Oh, and the front cupholders are in a silly place. Then again, who has time to drink when driving is such fun?
Oh, and my keyless entry remotes worked sporadically for the first few days. I have no idea why, as they've worked flawlessly for the last week or so now.
So all in all, life is good

Lets just put it this way, I look forward to the drive to work in the morning, the drive home and often times I will take the long way, just so I can have those few extra minutes of driving. I voted Highly satisfied, what an awesome car to drive.

For me it was love at first site. I test drove a Mazda6 and while waiting for the salesman to get me a brochure, I saw this car in the middle of the showroom. When the salesman returned, he started to show me the car and then opened the rear doors. I was hooked and in love. The next week I bought my RX-8.
P.S. Milage sucks!
