Excellent point, but if you think the bitching was bad about fuel mileage before when we had NA and 185 whp, you're going to see a whole new level of bitching when we're turboed with 350 hp.

Then Mazda is back right where they started as with the RX-8. Sure your MS RX-8 may have , lets be generous and say 300HP, but at the end of the day your friend in his 350+HP 350Z is still letting you see his tailights, and then all the complaining and whining starts all over again," I wish Mazda would give us more, why can't we have 350+HP, Oh my Mazdaspeed RX-8 is slow(even though it has 300HP),blah, blah, blah.....

So maybe its good Mazda hasn't released the MS 8 just yet. It gives them time to see what other car manufactures are going to put out first, then trump them with something that will steal there thunder. Its all marketing and timing fellas......
You're forgetting prices. If current car models get 100+ hp boosts, they won't have the same prices.

I think Mazda is going to kill the sales of the RX-8. How? with the introduction of the Mazdaspeed 6 and especialy the Mazdaspeed 3. You can pick up a MS6 for around 25K now, and Im sure the MS3 will be had around 20K. Why are people going to want to spend 30K+ to buy a slower "sports car" ? They made the RX8 a 4 seater, and now its going to compete with 2 other 4 seaters in the show room. Sounds pretty dumb to me.

I test drove a Mazdaspeed 6 when I bought my RX8 and they were detailing it. It's definetely MUCH faster, I'd say it was even with my last car, an E36 M3 5spd which does 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/4 mile in 14 flat @ 100 mph.

It doesn't handle as well though, and why the hell does everyone keep calling is a SPEED 6, a speed 6 is a freaking TVR not a Mazda.

Or Mazda could surprise us.

Ah, why do I keep my hopes up

From a marketing standpoint geared towards the American drag racing and oval gripping culture, you definitely have a point, but to people who love the RX-8 for what it is, it doesn't make a difference. As an example, MX-5s are well underpowered by any hot rodders definition, but many people buy them and fall in love with them. Many of these MX-5 owners are some of nicest, mature, and geeky (in a motorhead way) folks I've encountered on the Web and on meets. Why? They love their cars because it becomes a part of them, not a tool to win ego trophies. The RX-8 communicates to the driver better than the MS6. This intimacy between driver and machine is what people who enjoy driving search for and this is where a good fraction of the research dollars (yen) for the MX-5 and the RX-8 went into.

I'm a pretty big turbo AWD fan. But, if given the choice to drive the RX-8 or MS6 around for a week, I'd take the RX-8 and not think twice about it.,

The MS6 is not a shabby handling car. In fact, it's quite tight, but I managed to look at the drivetrain mechanicals and it looked primitive compared to Subaru's. Funny because my next car will be an AWD turbo because it's the only drivetrain layout I haven't become intimate with yet. So much to learn. I'm eyeing the Legacy 2.5 GT.

It's not shabby but I can't think of a reason to buy it over several other cars. Want it for the performance, get an STI or Evo. If you want it for the AWD turbo with a little luxury, get the A4, Legacy, or WRX limited. Want a good all arounder and don't care about the AWD, get the Jetta GLI, TSX, or Accord V6. I'm guessing what I just said has a lot to do with why you can get them for 22-23k right now. For that price it's a good deal, but I still don't know if I'd choose it over other cars.

My thoughts exactly except I'll slip in a GTI MkV (sweet car) to the non-AWD list, but I get the drift.

Hmmm, a WRX Limited... I haven't thought about that. Thanks for bringing that option to light. I heard the Lancer Ralliart is coming out to compete with the WRX. Things could get interesting.

The current car is better in just about every way compared to my '03 WRX (save for the frontend ). It's a great car. Just keep in mind the new one will most likely be out in a year or so. Also, the stock tires are aboslutely horrible, it handles so much better with some different rubber so keep that in mind if you testdrive it.

Thanks. I'll keep the tires in mind. My favorite WRX front end design is the 2004-2005. The late model design feels a little weak. I much prefer the 03 over the new one. Reminds me of a tough bulldog.

Basically for me...

A4 quattro: Costs thousands more. in this case i would've just gotten the bmw. the bmw would've run me 39.8K out the door. i did like the 3 series and the a4 better, but the price was just too high.
STi/Evo: Love the performance, but the ride quality and appearance makes it better as a secondary car.
Legacy: Don't like the exterior looks. performance, big plus. i think the exterior looks too plain though. reminds me of the taurus. now the special edition released in japan looks awesome.
WRX: don't like the interior/exterior looks.
Jetta: Don't like VW's rep for bad reliability and rumored expensive upkeep.
TSX: Too tame.
Accord: Much too tame and there's just too many out there.

To be honest, I'd rather have kept my 8 or gotten the Mazdaspeed 3. But the MS6 was cheap. (Though quite a bit more expensive than your price, but mine was fully loaded w/ navi).

I will never go back to front wheel drive, although I love the Mugen TSX and TL. The RX8 is the only car I actually feel attached too. I never realized just how important my car is to my state of mind until I had to drive this shitbox KIA Optima rental for a week. I would hate to see what a KIA RIO or something like that rides like considering the Optima is the high end KIA. My old Civic felt like an S500 compared to this thing.
