Charging Cell Phones...
Hi and help...I know it's not recommended to charge the cell phone in the RX8 but there are just emergencies sometimes and today was one. The plug wouldn't fit into the cigarette lighter! I mean, what's up with that? Does anyone know where I can get an adapter?
Many thanks (I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this car!)

Don't use the cigarette lighter, instead, use the the 12v source under the centre console cover. When you slide the cover all the way back, swing it up on the side closest to you to reveal the 12v socket.

Thank you SO much!! This is priceless information that even the Mazda Parts Dept. couldn't furnish me. A tip of the Yankee hat to my brother across the fence. Thank you!

What's the difference between those two sockets? They look the same to me, and my cell phone charging cord (cheapie bought at a truck stop) is equally hard to put into either.
That little notch that lets the cord come from the rear compartment to the front is a really nice touch.

I plug my charger into the 12V socket in the console and then run the cord through the little notch that is there (so I can have the lid flipped back down) and then put the phone in the cupholder. Works fine.

Well Since I dont drink coffee or smoke crack, i dont shake. So I can avoild spilling my coke in my car. Plus, you guys dont know this, but the Route44oz cup is perfect hight for an arm rest while holding the shifter. PERFEFT height.

I do it because it saves on cords all over the place and extra unplugging and what not to make the car look neat and tidy when I get out. Since I just basically have the adapter end hanging out through that little notch, all I have to do is slide the cover closed over the cup holders and instant tidiness. Of course, it also then hides the Pepcid. LOL

A word of warning...
If you really intend to use your cigarette lighter as a...cigarette lighter, then you might be better off using the console jack for 12V accessories.
I plugged several different adapters into my cigarette lighter socket, and somewhere along the way the socket was damaged. (Little metal tabs that the cig lighter needs were broken off at the bottom of the socket). So now, it still works fine as a 12v socket, but will NOT work with a cig lighter.
To replace the cig socket, I'm told you have to remove the entire dash. A pain.
