Torque steer can only happen on front wheel drive cars. Period.

Well, unless you have a rear wheel steering 8...

Steer is the key word there. Without a steering rack at the rear to change the steering angle of the rear wheels, there can not be torque steer at the rear of the car.

What is close is thrust angle being something other than zero (Straight ahead). This can influence the steering direction of the car, but still isn't torque steer, since it would affect the car regardless of the amount of torque being applied.

Edit:
What Paimon is describing is a loss of traction, not an unequal delivery of torque. What is describing is when you are in a curve, and using say 75% of the available grip of the tires. A bump or crack in the pavement suddenly changes the suspension load and/or the effective size of the tire's contact patch. Lets say it reduces the available grip by 30%. The front tires presumably hit it first, so the front tires break free briefly as they have exceeded the available grip. They slide toward the outside of the turn ever so briefly until grip is re-established. The rear wheels hit the same point and the rear wheels slip toward the outside of the turn in the same way until grip is re-established.

There is a particular exit ramp on my way to work that is downhill to a traffic light. From lots of traffic, including lots of trucks, braking on that ramp (plus poor paving job to begin with but hey, it's NJ) the asphalt is pushed up into a series of ripples. You can't use more than ~30% braking force across those ripples, or the tires just skip from one ripple to the next, the tires unloaded of their weight very briefly on the back side of each upwards hump. Exact same thing Paimon is describing, just in a turn.

Has any one any knowledge on polytetrafluoroethylene( PTFE). It is in most friction reducer products. I know Dupont Chemical Corporation holds the rights to the name Teflon. I was wondering if any one has looked into some one adding slaick 50/liquid ring or one of many products into their fuel tank.

From my very, very limited knowledge of the chemistry of PTFE, I think it is unlikely to produce measurable results. It begins to degrade at a mere 662 F, far below the temperature of engine combustion. However, if anyone has data to demonstrate other wise I'd love to know about it as well.

would it be safe to swap the wires underneath the fuse box so that my parking lights function as the blinkers and the blinkers function as parking lights?
any electricians in the house???

Hi I got my 8 a few months ago and I started noticing none of the other rx8's I've seen have these plastic diamond shaped things that pull out on their front bumpers. Anyone know what they are?

They are headlight washers...on Canadian and some other markets...not US though

Washers for your headlights, US specs don't have them.

Hmm just tried the washer sprayer, perhaps they are broken or use a different fluid reservoir I haven't filled. Probably just broken, I'll have to take a look on the weekend. Thanks for telling me what they were though was driving me nuts.

Wait figured it all out. Headlights have to be on and then you double tap the spray switch and then it turns on

Nav Delete Weight Savings

I may be extra dumb, even for this thread, but I still can't find the weight reduction from a nav delete. Is there anyone who knows either how much it weighs, or which weight reduction thread it's in? The only info I could find in these ten is that it's less than 100 lbs., but in fair warning I did only use the search this thread tool (for "nav") if it was 5 pages or longer. Of course that's what I did before I asked last time too, but I could've missed something.

Just looking to confirm that the procedure to turn off the DSC system for the Series 2 cars is the same as that for the series 1 cars (press the button to disable the DSC, or if you hold the DSC button down for 7-8 seconds to disable both the traction control and the DSC system)?

You are probably having trouble finding the info because the nav system was a $2,000 option for something worse than a $250 consumer GPS. Very very very few 8s had it.

I removed mine about a year ago to replace it with a Nexus 7 tablet. I don't have any hard numbers on the weight, but i can say that the screen, hood, motor that opens and closes it, and the plastic buttons in the center down by the shifter all weighed about 3 lbs or so. (don't have the parts anymore so i cant actually weigh them, sorry)

I guess three pounds and maybe another ten in antenna and that DVD player thing isn't worth the weight savings-depending on whether or not I could get a good part of that $2000 if I sold it. No? OK, not worth the work.

I sold mine to a friend for $300, but it was only the screen, buttons, and hood. (he was doing crazy car-computer things with it)

If you want, put a "for sale" thread up and see if you get any offers. It can't hurt.

Same procedure. Hold the button down for awhile and you will see the DSC and TCS(car with squiggly lines) lights come on and stay lit even after releasing.

Hey guys I'm doing my ignition coils, plugs and wire, as well as a MAF sensor and teardrop sensor thing (temp sensor?) cleaning. My question, do I need to disconnect the battery, and if I do what sorts of things should I Calibrate when I reconnect the battery? Thanks
