Thanks for the replies guys. Why use fiberglass sound deadening material in the first place if the intention is to make a loud exhaust?

I'm not talking about taking years to get loud. Just a few hundred miles. Here's a good example. The first video is when he first got the exhaust. The second is after a month.



It seems as if these exhausts need a "break in" period. I don't think it rusted in such a short time.

 

Back in the old pre-cat muscle car days, 'Glasspacks' were the loud exhaust, long before Flowmaster and the newer mufflers.
Without the deadening of the fiberglass, it was like straight pipes, and too loud, like pulled over by the cops loud.

 

The good thing was that the cops unlike today were not looking to pull people over so much back then and yes glass pac's were loud. You had a choice of the long or shorty glass pac's and you mounted them as close to the engine as you could put them to get the max loudness. You just turned up the radio to over come that.

A yellow dash light came on under my temperature Gage, yellow with an ! in the middle. anyone know what it means????

I'm having trouble with my clutch pedal. Im assuming it has to do with the clutch master cylinder, but Im not sure. When I get into the car from sitting for a long period the clutch pedal is very "loose". Once I start the car, and pump the clutch pedal a few times, the "feel" comes back and there is some noticeable change in resistance. Anyone else have this problem? Could it have to do with the heat? It has been close to 100 F here and the car does sit out in the sun all day. Never noticed this till this summer.

BUT, if you have to bleed it, then there's an issue somewhere.
Master going bad, or a leak.

 

my center button on my rx-8 stock radio system doesn't work. I have to push it really really hard for it to work. anybody ever had this problem and had sucess fixing it?

 

Not saying this is for sure it, but the face of that whole unit can become loose and make that whole assembly act up. Try pressing firmly (but gently) around the edges of it and see if it improves. And by edges I mean where the glossy black face ends and kind of becomes the more rough curved plastic that turns into the dividing wall in your footwell.

 

I have not. Ill have to look up how to do this.

I've not done it on my 8, but I have recently done my old '95 Nissan pickup.
I was by myself.
I tried using a container and hose, and tried using a vacuum pump with no luck.
I ended up gravity bleeding it, and that worked.
Wasted almost a whole weekend trying.
If I ever need to do it again, I'm getting a pressure bleeder.

 

True, but the most common source of a leak is the bleeder itself. Bleeding the line properly would solve that.

It definitely could be the master or slave, though.

I have a Harbor Freight vacuum pump that I have used to bleed my brakes and clutch for years. I keep expecting it to crap out on me, but it hasn't so far. It works great as a one-man tool--especially if you have a large air compressor.

 

So I've been reading a lot about the Bose audio system, because I wanna change it. A lotta people have said that you can't change it. I just added subwoofer and it worked fine. Tapped it into the rear speakers Wondering what all the fuss is about

 

Once you start doing headunits, speakers etc.. you'll understand. It's not that it can't be done. It's just a headache

Oh yeah. Must be hard for the speakers. I haven't messed with them yet. The overall sound changed a lot with the addition of a subwoofer. It sounds richer now. I can turn down the bass on the stock head unit and bump up the sub gain a little to compensate for that. The result is pretty much distortion free audio. Not bad at all.

 

Hey guys, I am new to this forum. I had a question about an RX-8 I was looking into buying. I have been looking for one for a while and found one that was cheap but had some issues. I was wondering if you guys could help me out to see if it is a cheap fix or not. The guy is saying that "sometimes the engine runs slightly hot and a dash light comes on indicating that the engine is overheating. but the temp gauge doesn't change" It is a 2004 Automatic trans and 84k on the clock. thanks.

 

The temp gauge is borderline useless.
It usually moves after the engine is already overheating.
Not sure what dash light comes on, but sometimes the coolant level sensor goes bad.
Overheating is very bad for our Renesis engines.
Also, '04 automatics had less HP and more problems, and imo, should be avoided.
Read the New Owner Stickies and educate yourself about what to look for when considering an RX8.
There will be others available at decent prices, and NEVER buy one without a rotary specific compression test.

There isn't a dash light for overheating

Could be the "low coolant level" light. The coolant level sensor fails with time. Ask the guy what light shows up. If there are any check engine codes, get the codes and post them here.

I don't like the idea of a cheap '04 automatic whose owner doesn't seem knowledgeable, or is deliberately being vague.
There will be others.
