Don't fix it if it's not broken.

Responding to a post here that was apparently deleted

Yes, it is technically possible to get the compression checked without taking it to a dealer, but it requires a specialized digital compression tester that can capture and maintain historical compression data during the test. The analog ones you get at auto-parts stores can only give you the highest compression of the 3 faces of each rotor, when the number you need is an individual number for each face, plus an RPM speed.

A few of them are floating around in owner's hands in a few places in the country, but largely, taking it to a dealer for a compression test is still the best bet.

Ok, I guess this is a dumb question:

What the hell is this ugly tube thing next to my filter? I hate it. It looks so out of place and disgusting. I want it to go away, forever, because it doesn't really seem like anything important. I thought it was related to the intake and now I'm almost positive that it isn't.

Is this thing important? What does it do?

If I remove my cat for a mid pipe, is it bye-bye engine core warranty?

as long as you can prove that the mid pipe did not directly cause a fault (in future), they'll still have to honor the warranty.

The smart thing to do is .... keep the Catalytic
If you need to take it to the dealer for something serious ... but the cat back on

Well, I believe its bad / going out. I got some exhaust rattles coming from right under me. Only low rpm (-2.2k rpms) with a load. I'm no professional, but it wouldn't be the first cat for me to go out this way.

Ummmmm well that is an unfortunate situation.
I still have my OEM cat .... only put it on when I need to do an emissions test (every other year in Ontario).
I save it just for that.

Well I would say what Rx8soldier said to be true, however such has not been the case for me with my dealership.
My car is all but cast out of my local Mazda Dealership.

If you can afford it ... buy a midpipe ... then scour the web and the junk yards for a used Cat.

I thought the one to the left was for the ECU, and the long one coming down was for the battery

Mmmm well I can take a pic.
However I have all the battery bits removed so we can't compare.
I did go out and check before I posted.

But that piece in the pic looks like the one for the ECU

Not trying to call you a liar or anything like that, but I would like to see the photo, for my own personal knowledge.

ok heres a few dumb questions:

1. just installed new LEDs in the tails and blinkers...head LEDs before but these are the ne platium bulbs from VLED...anyways now everytime i put on brakes or use my blinkers my radio goes static...thoughts???

2. I've got HID fogs and love them but i wonder if i take the light shields out inside the housing will it help the light output or just scatter the beam and be worse...not too worried about blinding oncoming traffic as i only use them with the brights...ideas? anyone have pictures???

3. my 8 vibrates a little bit at idle, not that bad...better now that ive got the Cobb AP (fuel mixture) and the coils and plugs are fine...but it gets worse if i turn on the radio, lights, AC or anything else electrical
any ideas as to the culprit here...possibly a grounding kit would help?
