Neutral switch tells the ecu when the trans is in neutral. the reverse switch turns on the backup lights.

Whats better staggered or non staggered set up ??? Better in terms of performance. Obviously staggered looks better. But what about performance wise.

I don't think anyone could answer this, it's impossible to really tell if the seller is trustworthy ...

I think that whether they look better or not is a matter of personal opinion.
I can't really speak to the performance ... but I would imagine that too depends entirely on what "Performance" means to you?

performance: mostly road but track sometimes

Well id like to be able to keep the handling of the 8 but still be able to put out maximal power to the ground. Alot of people say staggered set ups ruin handling, even if its an inch difference in the rear. But then why do so many people go staggered ?? Mainly for looks i guess ??

Also from what i have read a non staggered will be better for the handling and it will allow for tire rotations. It looks like this would be the better choice for an rx8 to keep its handling.

Any input ?

Yea I kinda knew that would be the answer I'm just nervous since I'm strapped for cash at the moment. There are quite a few RX8 wheel-buyers in the feedback and they all say it was great so I guess I'll roll the dice and give it a shot. Cheapest I can find. Thanks WCS.

The only thing that I can really see staggering the wheels helping performance wise is straight line acceleration, simply because of added traction...

In terms of handling, it would hurt performance... The balance on the 8 is just about perfect stock. Putting bigger wheels on the back would cause understeer...

I definitely don't think any minimal gains to acceleration would be worth losing some of the 8s great handling... The only reason to stagger your wheel set up is because you think it looks better

Hello! Newb here too! My hubby and I just got a '04 and we love it! My husband took her out a few days ago, filled up while he was out and then drove 10.3 city miles only to notice the gas needle dropped from full to 3/4's of a tank. Crappy gas mileage we expected (thanks to this forum) and is really no problem since I just got out of a '78 Bronco (8-9 mpg) but is this also normal for city driving? Thanks!

One more question, inside of the glove box there is a button that says "trunk opener on off", errr what does this button do? The car didn't come with an owner's manual lol, guess I need to go get one. Thank you.

my guess is he didn't fill up all the way?
our cars do get shitty gas mileage for such a small motor (1.3L) but 1/4 tank in 10 miles would be a record!

I've tracked the last 57,000 miles on my car and the worst I ever did was 13 mpg. I typically average 18 mpg with mixed driving.


As for the button: that's to disable being able to open the trunk with your keyless remote. In case you use a valet or someone and don't want them opening the trunk.

Per the Gas mileage, record an entire tank of gas mileage before you worry about how quickly the needle drops. Mine would drop to half a tank in life 70 miles... then sit there until like 220, then quickly drop to "E". So don't fret about the MPG until you compute it.

Inside the glove box is the "trunk cancel button" if that button is pushed, the trunk release under the drive's knee will be disabled. Why, you ask?
This feature is for valets. The Valet key for the RX8 (like most) won't open the trunk. It won't open the glove box either, assuming you locked it. So, the theory is that with the trunk cancel switch, you can lock valuables in your trunk and your valet won't be able to get at them because of this switch in the locked glove box.

and if you ever get a sub like mine, and you live in a very very bad area.. they wont be able to get into the truck as easily, so what you do is this:

push the button to lock -> lock the glove box -> lock the doors.

they'll have a hell of a time trying to get into the glove box while the alarm is going off, then they'd have to know what that button does, and... yeah. your trunk is safe :D but time for a new window..

oh, and the alarm goes off if the door is forced opened, hood is forced opened, or the trunk is forced open. i assume the alarm goes off if the window gets smashed too. i have not tried that one yet..

so i just got my new registration sticker.. If i throw out my old registration card that is valid until 3/14 and use the new one that isnt valid until 3/14 till next year, if I get pulled over before 3/14, can i get some sort of ticket for having new registration?

I don't know about a smashed window, but I know it goes off if you try to open the door from the inside while the alarm is active. I learned the hard way, trying to be funny and locking my gf in the car, heh. So if they smash the window and then try to unlock or open the door, the alarm will go off.

Like said above, the needle doesn't drop at a consistent rate at all... Mine will plummet right after filling up then slow way down. Just pay attention to how much you are getting on the whole tank (or if you fill up before it gets all the way down just see how much gas it takes and then compare that to how many miles you have gone since your last fill up)

Thank you all for your replies and help! Average mpg is around 16, which seems to be about normal. I've noticed some cars, like the Tahoe we had, will drop more slowly towards the end of the tank...funny this car does this right after a fill up!

Good to know about the trunk button too! I kept pushing it, waiting to hear a click so I could run around trying to figure out where the noise came from.

I used to live in Cali, and as I'm sure you know California laws can be a bit more strict than other states. If it were me, I'd keep both cards until the one expired just to be on the safe side. Some states allow you to place both stickers on your plate but then too some states use the other spots for other stickers...maybe you should call DMV just be sure? I'd hate to give you bad advice!

yes.. they have too many laws here. but i just thought someone would know off the top of their head.. im assuming probably not if someone were to get a ticket for it (for some reason), but by the time you need to take care of it, you'd be okay anyways, so maybe its one of those things you'd have to ask a cop

When you park the 8 in a declined parking spot (any direction, up or down) does your car take longer to start? I always notice it because my car fires like in 1 second every time no matter the weather or anything and the only 3 times my car took longer to start was in a declined parking spot. The car sounds like its firing but it just takes it an extra couple of seconds... my reasoning for this is that the gas accumulates at the bottom inside the engine ( since it is declined into 1 direction) and the sparkplugs have a harder time reaching and igniting the gas... does it make sense to you guys or am i totally overthinking things? now when thinking about it i remember reading somewhere that gas isnt injected the first 3 seconds so my theory wouldnt make sense but anyways share your thoughts guys
