Dumb Question Thread - no flaming or sarcasm allowed
i have just replaced the engine for my 2nd rx8 back in the Caribbean i am now trying to improve cooling to the engine i was wondering if adding a second radiator in parallel to the existing one ( with cooling fans mounted on that one to ) would be a beneficial step to aid in engine cooling in the hot Caribbean climate or would it just obstruct air flow and cause more problems than it solves
+1 on the mazmart t-stat. Also check and see how your fans are working, there performance dies off as time goes by. I just replaced both my fans and saw a huge difference in cooling while in traffic.
yup... you'll need your AP serial # to get a copy of ATR... good news is that Cobb actually released an updated version of ATR for all 2006+ autos so you'll have a couple maps that the 4 ports don't get (mainly around idle control).
Ok, I assume dumb questions includes dumb things we do. I don't think it will do any harm but thought I would ask. Got in a hurry and added regular 20/50 motor oil to my fuel instead of my amsol 2 cycle oil. Just run it through?
keep topping off your fuel to help dilute the motor oil if you can.
Well... I can't say for sure because I'm about as experienced as you are, but I'm assuming as long as you run her nice and hard it should burn off just fine. As long as you didn't mix it tooooooo rich.
Hey there, long time lurker, first time poster, potential buyer.
Basically i cant figure out if the rx8 im looking at is legit or not. Im going in to view tommorow, and its apparently the 6 speed manual 2004, type s from japan. (recent import to New Zealand). However it has 16 inch mazda OEM rims and ive read in a few places that the 6 speed manual type s versions cant fit 16 inch rims, or is this just in America, thanks
.
i can link to the page if anyone is interested. Also, is there any way to tell for sure if it is the high spec 6 port engine by looking at the engine rather than just the gear stick?

Yes, please link it over. Country variances might explain it, but the sport suspension had larger brakes that would not be able to fit under 16" wheels. In the US, all 6-speed manuals got the sport suspension, but possibly not all 6 speed automatics. We should be able to figure it out for you.

The 6 port with have 2 extra intake runners, where the UIM and LIM meet.
4- port

Damn, not too sure what UIM and LIM are, ive had a quick search and cant figure it out. And where on those pictures should i be looking? Thanks very much for the help, sorry for being so clueless.
Can you see these intake runners while the engine is in the engine bay? (ive got a guess that UIM means upper intake manifold and LIM is Left intake manifold? im still not sure where to look though)

It is manual, gt trim, really does have the 16s.
An impossible combination in the US.
Id suspect that to be a 5-speed, not 6. Give me an hour or so
Cheers RIWWP. Ive just had a look into the trims because i didnt realise that there was a "sport", "touring" or "GT" trim difference. Is that possibly only in America, here in NZ where we have many Japanese imports I could really only tell if it was a "type s" or not.
More importantly, Is the GT trim (which this seams to be as you said) slower than a sport, and does it still have a LSD?
Thanks again
