I got my letter for the clutch recall Tuesday, 10/26/10. That's find and dandy, but what about the power steering failures that many owners, including myself are experiencing? Recall that, Mazda!!

I do'nt get why people can't spend like 1/2 hour to an hour and try to install the clutch themselves...It's 3 installation bolts and 2 adjustment bolts...Not the most complicated thing in the world, it's just a super awkward angle if you don't take your seat out completely.

That sounds about right....I'll check my invoice tonight. May be worth a drive down to my local Mazda dealer.

I have since sold my RX8, it is now in the hands of a new owner....but I did keep my broken pedal and work invoice as I knew this day would come....now to get down there prior to the new owner collecting on my money.....

WhaaaatTTTT ? 2 hours labor ? to do what?

wow 250 bux for the clutch pedal. I really wonder how they get that number cuz as far as I remember the MSRP for Clutch pedal is MUCH less than that.

Mine was for 370.05 (before tax). 1.5 hours for labor = 130.96. Clutch pedal assembly = 219.45. Apparently the techs at my dealership are faster than yours....

Either way, i'm fully prepared to have to replace things that break on a car I plan to keep for a while. I paid it out then and there, and while I was upset that they told me it was a "wear and tear" item, it was just another day in owning a modestly expensive car.

So now, 8 months later, I'm getting a random $400 for something I wrote off a while ago. Exciting.

Got this letter a few days ago. Called Tustin Mazda and Mick (sp?)said this is the first they've heard of this. He said it was posted on their site 10/22. I just scheduled an appointment with them for Monday to get my clutch assembly inspected and my battery issue. I got the squeaking blues too.

It's really that easy. Peek under the dash and locate your clutch pedal then wiggle it side to side. If there's a lot of movement, check the bracket's mounts where the 12 mm bolts are located. That's where the break occurs, the squeak is from the springs caused by misaligned pedal bracket retracting back.

^^ Yup. Also, this is a really big pain in the *** when your seat is still installed so I would advise removing it completely. Also, the bolts are really hard to get to if you have big hands...The top left bolt is the hardest to actually install. But other than that. I should've done a DIY but it was pretty self explanatory.

...looking further into my invoices on the car, found that I actually had gone into the dealership less than 500 miles prior to the pedal snapping off, with complaints of squeeky pedal and difficulty shifting.

They charged me 95 dollars to make adjustments to the adjustment rod.

...wonder if that should be reimbursed as well...basically a 95 dollar band aid on a failed part, which snaps less than 500 miles later....

I also received my letter today but after reading it I think I am SOL.

I have 149,000 miles on my 8.
I replaced the pedal myself before it snapped with a BHR reinforced one back in 2008.

So I am not covered by Mazda and cannot meet the reimbursement requirements it seems because I did it myself.

Expo1 I would send it in anyway. You have nothing to lose besides the cost of postage.

Yeah NOW it's free, but before it wasn't. So back when it WASN'T free, why didn't people do it themselves?

Basically all cars from April 10, 2003 - September 13, 2008 have the clutch pedal assembly warranty extended to 8 years, 100,000 miles. If you have already had the clutch pedal replaced, then you are eligible for a reimbursement (no mileage requirement listed for reimbursement).

I wonder if they will reimburse for the RaceRoots clutch pedal reinforcement? Or if I can claim the clutch pedal broke and wrecked my transmission?

My dealer told me about the recall last week when I brought in my car for an oil change. So glad to see them being pro-active about it. They treat me pretty well there since I bought my car from there.

I'm scheduled to go in tomorrow morning to get it take care of. Hopefully it won't take too long. Good thing because my clutch pedal started to squeak a few weeks ago.
