8 years, 100,000 mi extended warranty.

You are responsible for your car and the warranty contract though. If it states that missing maintenance (or maintenance records) voids the warranty then you have to provide them with the proof. It sucks but it works this way.

die check engine light!
It's kind of tricky, the actually wording of the warranty says you are responsible for service your own records but it does not say you are responsible for records from previous owners. Under that same federal law it says any ambiguity goes against the drafter of the warranty. So technically you can fight it but it's more a hassle than it's worth I think.
Called the dealer again this morning, seem to have had a change of heart and they ordered me a new engine. Finally something is going my way with that car! I've replaced everything else now nothing should break Ha, knock on wood

Yes but if you buy a car that's out of warranty for any reason then the warranty doesn't renew under your ownership.
That's where the ambiguity becomes a moot point as it's your duty to investigate on the warranty status upon purchase.

If the engine is replaced under the extended coverage, is there supposed to be a fee for things like fluids and gaskets?
I've seen some people say the entire replacement was free, yet a sticky says I'd still be charged $500 for those things.
So which is the "official" answer, if there is one?

I still Have a long way to go before my engine core warranty expires (car bought in july 09) but Im wondering, I search around and dont see any specific info, It might not be the best idea but here we go:
Any one as found a good way, near your 8th year ou close to 100k miles, to get your engine to run low compression. (ex. disconnecting the OMP for a couple of miles)
I dont want to abuse but you know, if theres a way of getting a brand new engine, Ill take it.

I'd advise you to delete those posts. Seriously. You wave it away, but there have been documented cases where Mazda has voided warranties due to member posts on this forum.
I also agree. Fraud is not just frowned on but actively hated.
You defrauding Mazda to get a new engine makes it that much harder for legitimate warranty work to get approved, negatively hurts the manufacturer of the car we love, makes it that much harder for the next iteration of rotary to be developed, etc...
We have no care or like for scammers here, of any type, regardless of who you are scamming. Reported.

Yes to all of this. You're only hurting yourself if you start posting/fishing for ways to screw Mazda over.

I didn't have to provide service records, they asked me if I had them all and I said yes but they never took a look. Shame really because I have them all organized in a neat portfolio. I've never heard of the $500 fee, my dealer didn't mention anything of the sort. They even gave me a free 1/4 tank of gas because it was empty when I took it in. I've had bad dealings with my dealer before but they really surprised me this time, I'm quite pleased.
Oh and in response to all the lovely fraud discussion: first, shame on you. Second, getting a replacement engine doesn't do you any good if your old engine works great. I found out my 8 is on it's 3rd engine, two replaced under warranty, getting a brand new one does not guarantee perfect performance. You have to remember that your original engine was new at one point too. You need to treat your car with respect, since at least to me it's more than just a chunk of metal it's a daily companion that you need to take care of.

Engine toast
Hi. Good to be back after a hiatus. My '04 6 spd. would not crank today. Just noise and no ignition. Had it towed to dealer. The engine failed compression test, and new one has been ordered. This would have cost $10,000.00, but the extended warranty covers it. WHEW!!!!!!!!
The plugs and cables need replacing, as does the starter. I am still out $1,000.00, but that is better than $11,000.00.
I'm surprised this happened to my 6 spd. Usually the lower revving autos. do it.
I'll keep you all informed.
Chris

$10,000 sounds way high. I think $3-6K is the neighborhood for an out-of-warranty engine. But its good your covered!
I had to get mine replaced at 113K, but they cut me some slack and covered the parts and only charged me labor. Ended up less than $2K, before I decided to throw in a new clutch.

New Engine
It was a rough quote for the engine and installation. I really didn't ask any questions as it was covered. I need new plugs and plug cables. I want to upgrade the cabling. Any suggestions?
Should I replace the clutch at the same time?
Any other work or adds while it is apart to save the labor?
Any thoughts?
Tks,
Chris

There is a place that you could get a re-manufactured rotary engine for less than $3k and passed compression test, check this out...

The engine has just over 30,000 miles.
I asked about aftermarket cabling and the dealer referred me to the Mazda accessories catalog. Nothing there. I may need to order in myself.
Any suggestions sourcing (I live in Canada):
Clutch
Ignition
Thanks for the assist.

Ok, looking @ 04 RX-8 with 63k on it. My wife loves it and it drives like a dream. It is @ a Mazda dealership. I researched the car alot. Probably too much; enough to be against the purchase. I got the dealership to call a Mazda dealership about the warranty and history. It has original engine and serviced once for flooding and once for loss of power. Otherwise nothing major. Warranty period is soon to expire. Is the warranty from first date of sale or manufacture date. Any thoughts or suggestions or advice on other things to check? There is a consistant soft, rapid ticking noise you can only hear standing by the drivers side at the back of the front tire?.....

Going crazy
05 67,000 miles and while driving last week noticed a hoge loss of power. I can on;y rev up to 6,000 rpms and a strady CEL on. Had the codes checked at a local shop and they said it has a misfire code and to take it to a Mazda dealer. My local dealer was very uncooperativve when i took it in at 47,000 miles for a few minor issues so I called Mazda and they set up a free tow to a dealer 45 mins away. It's actually where I bought my 91 Rx-7. Anyway when they received the car I got a call stating that they were going to charge me $320 just to diagnose the problem. Plugs and wires are fine but the shop manager also told me I'd be responsible for the labor if it needed a new engine. This is insane. I had to authorize the $320 fee otherwise it would have just been sitting there. I'm going to try and fight that cost as well as any other they try and throw my way.
