Say you bought it, and was told it had a fresh oil change.

Receipt? Yeah...you just bought it. Why should you need to show proof that you changed the oil on it if you "haven't" gone over the recommended oil change interval per Mazda's maintenance schedule. Tell them you didn't think it was necessary to get a receipt of the oil change on a new(to you) car. Leave it at that.
If they bitch and moan. Tell them how it's bullshit that you should be held accountable because you didn't get an oil change receipt/maintenance record when buying the car - so you're somehow entitled to pay for an engine replacement.
Tell them to check the oil - authorize a teardown and prove to you that the engine failed due to lack of lubrication. They won't blame you. (Unless the thing really is bone dry...have you checked/added oil since you bought it?)
Then if they're still ******, call the Mazda hotline and bitch. Don't yell at the consultant that answers the phone...Tell them your upset + feel your being taken advantage of for just buying the car and "if this is how Mazda treats they're customers, you'll never own another again".

Point in case CSI(Customer Service Index/Satisfactory) Scores are pretty important to dealerships - a bad one goes further then you'd expect. Tell them you'll be calling Mazda if they make a big deal too.

We change the oil on all used cars. Unless it JUST had it.
I suppose I know how to pick my words with other dealers...because I work at one. Hahah. G' Luck man!

Update!

The motor replacement got approved today! Whew what a load off my mind. I called the dealer I got the car from and asked for the records of anything they had done to it before I took it home. They faxed it over and I inturn faxed it on. 1 hr later they called with the approval.
So they said some time next week it should be in and then they will start. Im so thankful!

Thank you everyone who gave me info It really was appreciated!!

Does anybody know if the BHR ignition, intake and exhaust will void my warranty. Im pretty sure im in need of a new engine due to loss of compression.

BHR Ignition: Technically no, it won't. However many dealers will fight you over it. It's easier to take the hour or so to return it to stock that deal with potential denial or the hours / weeks of fighting to get them to accept it.

Intake and exhaust (I assume you mean cat-back): No, it won't. Some idiot dealers will claim that it will, or there is a communication issue that it causes (like MNAO asking 'is the car modded', the dealer says 'yes' because of the intake and exhaust, MNAO replys 'no warranty coverage' without actually determining the mods). Again, if you have the parts, I'd recommend returning to stock for it.

The intake and exhaust cause fewer issues than the ignition, none of them actually make a difference, but expect a fight on any of them that you leave attached.

If you just rig some PVC pipe into an intake with a crappy air filter, then yea it can affect your warranty. If you made an exhaust out of beer cans and it chokes the engine, then yea that could too. Normal stuff though? nah

Engine only, and from the original date of purchase to 100,000 odometer miles. Doesn't start when YOU buy it.

Well of course, So it is ether or. 8yr or 100k odo Miles. I don't have to fill out any paper work or anything to receive that? I'm just asking, Its nice that a company in such a economic time is doing something like that.

The warranty this thread is about covers 2004-2008 RX-8, what year is the one you wish to buy?

2004 RX-8. 44,000 Miles on the ODO. I'm just not sure if the warranty is auto or you have to buy it for the extended. I'm new to sports cars in general, I most bought junkers to peel around in back and forth to work. Oh, Heres also the Link for it as well.

http://www.dorschfordkia.com/invento...E173540110002/

Took out my First Shot at driving stick today. Just so I can drive this car. Honestly, I can't wait to drive it.. Just have to buy it first. But so many questions yet left unanswered.

Being an 2004 the warranty this thread is about will expire next year anyway. Maybe sooner if it was purchased in 2003. I would get a compression test from a Mazda dealer before buying this car.

I can't open that link, but it would have to be DIRT cheap for me to buy an 04 rx8. Definitely worth it to look into 07-08 models imo. More warranty and never ran on the crappy tune we started with.

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=251

Logging into MyMazda on mazdausa.com, I find this under "2009 RX-8" > "Warranty" :

RX-8 Rotary Engine Core Limited Warranty Extension
Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage on Rotary Engine Core Components on all RX-8 vehicles produced after the 2004 model year. The warranty coverage for the Rotary Engine Core Components is extended to 8 years (96 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 100,000 mileage limitation. The following is a list of components covered by this warranty:

Rotary Engine Core
Rotary Housing and Internal Parts
Internal Seals and Gaskets

Complement the limited warranty on your new vehicle with the Mazda Extended Protection Plan, the only service agreement backed by Mazda. See your Mazda dealer for details.

Does the 8 year 100,000 mile warranty cover an engine installed under this warranty?

You don't get a new 100k/8yr warranty when they replace your engine if that's what you are asking. You just continue to be covered until 8yr/100k from original car purchase date.

I got a new one at around 113K last year. Dealer worked with Mazda to get a deal where they only charged for labor, not for the engine. Warranty on new engine was 12mo/12K.

alright just got a compression test done today and needless to say compression was low

4.9 4.7 4.9
5.2 5.4 5.0

Here is what the service rep at the dealership was telling me today on the phone, she said it is low enough for a new engine and she will try to get me one however they might not because of intake and midpipe. I told her the intake was a dealer installed option before I even bought the car (over 3 years ago) and she said as far as she knows that doesnt matter. She also said the intake might be an issue as well. I know people on here who have had these options have had their engines replaced under warranty and I was just wondering if you caught hell because of it, or even if you had some information to give me in case I have to fight with mazda to get something that proves you had an intake/midpipe and still got a new engine.

I wont know the verdict until tomorrow when she gets a chance to call mazda north america, real nice lady and I think she will try to help me out but who knows.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: a vin number of a vehicle with both a midpipe and intake that got a replacement under warranty would be ideal that way I have something to fight with instead of just trying to argue about the oil injectors

I don't think someone here will jump to identify themselves as a violator of federal emissions law. It doesn't matter anyway how someone else situation was handled. I would INSIST on getting it in writing on how a midpipe can effect the engine, it does void your emission warranty but that is minor. Is that intake a Mazdaspeed / AEM? if its one of those they are one in the same and cannot void a warranty.
Do you have proof that the regular maintenance was done? They can move to that issue to also deny the claim. Get all your ducks in a row and maybe even a letter from an lawyer will also help to show your serious and will not be taken advantage of.

Actually it's against federal law to deny warranty claims like that. They have to provide written, factual proof that any aftermarket part caused any issue. The only responsibility you have is to provide service records for the period you owned the car (you are not responsible for records by previous owners despite what the dealer says). They also can't require OEM branded aftermarket parts either.

Been doing some research, I've got coolant leaking into rotor housing 1 and they are trying to screw me over. It clearly is covered by warranty and I have multiple examples where other dealers have covered it, they just refuse to give me my rightful engine replacement. Any helpful hints?

Try another Mazda dealership or try to call the Mazda Headquarters office and complain about the problem, they should give you some helpful informations. Good luck.
