Reasons for engine failure?

Do you know why your engines were replaced? I have a 04 GT with 52K and it does not seem to have as much HP as the year before? Don’t think it is a failure issue but am going to replace wires. spark plugs and battery soon since they may be original (purchased car with 36K miles two years ago). Also had flooded engine and had to disconnect fuel pump in back seat to get started and had engine light (fuel codes and miss fire).

I am guessing you didn't tell Mazda you track your car or weren't back when you had engine issues ?

Thanks for the info. How long ago was the first engine replaced? I would have thought / hoped the replacements would have lasted better (a lot better) . I found a bunch with replaced motors some under 100k still, but if the replacement engines are no better than original...

Is it just s simple (and inexpensive) compression test that tells if the engine has gone bad or not?

Thanks again,
Dennis

If you don't know the maintenance / repair history, replace the coils too.

Also, there are easier ways to deal with fuel system disabling than going under the back seat. Search on flooding here.

And, make sure your car has had all the significant TSBs done to it ( programming reflash, upgraded starter & battery, etc.)

I have an 05 Mazda RX8. Mine will end at 2013. I know i would never reach the 100,000 mark by then. I only drive the car locally.

^ Almost 2 months and no engine yet? That sucks! Did the dealership gave you a rental car for your convenience or your paying for it first and they will just re-pay you when they finished with your car?

It is still driveable but do worry when stopping for gas as it takes quite a while to start when warm. I'm still just happy Mazda is replacing it under warranty. I had read just a few months ago that others had waited no more than a month so maybe their backlog is growing.

Read the first post in this thread for all the details. Did you not make it that far?

The warranty won't help you though, because the warranty detailed here is for the ENGINE CORE only, and only covers engine failure. It will not cover any other part of the powertrain, engine accessories, etc...

If you have a different warranty that covers those items, then look to that warranty detail to see if you can lean on that.

You could also try some of the deflooding DIY threads to see if one of those works for you, rather than shelling out what could be alot of money (depends on how much the stealership wants to charge you)

I have the Mazda documents you are looking for in PDF. However, in this forum, we aren't allowed to use attachments. Check for a PM

Dealer called today, new (reman) engine is in, hurray. In total about a ~6 week wait but very please with my local dealer and Mazda. Keep in mind it's an '04 auto. Scheduled to be replaced starting next Monday. Having engine mounts replaced for $300 in the process. Also instructed to inspect the OMP lines.

Extended Warranty on Engine Very True...

This morning 3/18 I called Mazda's customer service dept 1.800.222.5500 . I was told that you will need to have your VIN and provide new ownership data so that the dealership can retrieve the warranty info.

Also, you can keep track of your servicing and stay abreast
by creating an account at mymazda.com.

Just got word today mine is getting a new engine. Dealer told me 2 weeks back log on the order, hopefully it won't be 6 weeks like above. 89,500 miles. I have a mechanic at the dealer that is nice to work with, goes to bat for you.

My new(reman) engine is now in my '04 Auto Rx-8 and running smoooooth! It took just shy of 8 weeks. Six weeks for the engine to arive, one week to fit me in the dealerships schedule, and about 4 days to get it back. I now have more power, starts great when warm, and while I haven't checked it yet I would expect better mpg. It took a while but well worth the wait! Also had new motor mounts put in so the car no longer excessively vibrates when at a stop light in drive. Very pleased with Mazda and my local Mazda dealer. Zoom Zoom!

Awesome news! Make sure to check if your plugs/ coils were replaced. Those aren't done under warranty, but it will help with the health of your engine.

Yep, I replaced the plugs, coils and wires prior to the engine replacement with help from the great DIYs on this site. The dealer suggested it to fix the hard start issue, even though the compression was below spec. They needed to be replaced anyhow so didn't mind having to do it. After it proved to not help the hard start and low power issue then they submitted the request to have the core replaced. The warrenty would have expired this coming Fall at 8yrs so glad it's done and out of the way.

Hi everyone...I'm new to RX8 - but not to cars or forums. The 8 is #45 in a long line of cars and SUV's. Always customize, always mod... I bought mine used - with only 6800 miles on it...and have had it a month. Registered it on Mazda.com, pulled the previous service records, and keep a folder on it with EVERY receipt.

I've only had 2 major issues with cars - both BMW 5 Series (altho I found out my 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero had the engine replaced by Saab for the new owner) - and it was a BEAR of a deal to get them to buy back the cars. I'm meticulous on everything...and BMW SUCKS to deal with...period. And I've had 7 of them.

The fact that any car company - and one as small as Mazda - will warranty an engine for 8/100 and do as many engine replacements as they do is simply amazing. Even tho a lot of you had to wait, or fight a bit...if you look at the miles you guys report...Mazda is really standing behind this product. And all you have to do is service your car and change the oil. Not a bad deal...

It's just my new opinion...but I have never seen a company do a job like this.

Right now - I think Mazda rocks.

Waiting for Mazda to approve my engine being replaced.

My mazda 04 died and I got it to the dealer, they said it was the part that was under warrenty so Im set according to them there, they however had to submit paperwork to Mazda somewhere else to approve it. I am suppose to find out on Monday.
What im wondering is just what do they replace the old one with? Is it the same type of engine that was in there or did they modify the engines with all the issues ppl have had?
Anyone know?

Thanks in advance all!

Ack quick answers if possible please

I just heard from the Mazda dealer today, they want records of maint. I told them I just purchased it in Dec and told them to look in the box they could see proof of that. I also mentioned it had a oil change. I got it aprox 20k it had 24k when the engine went. I talked to my garage guy and he doesnt have any receipt for when he changed the oil, I bought the stuff he changed it for nothing so he cant give me a receipt. What the hell do I tell them now??? Lie and say I never got a oil change? Or simply tell the truth which sounds like a lie? My garage guy has totally pissed me off with this, I wonder why he wouldnt keep record of doing a oil change and just leave it as showing free of charge??? Any help is apprecitated, I have to call them tomorrow.

Thanks all!!
