8 years, 100,000 mi extended warranty.
Yep, I agree.......you need to replace all four coils. In terms of where to get them, well I would probably go to http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cat=338&page=1 and get them. But there are other places as well.
BHR is also offering a new coil setup that looks real promising, but not quite available yet....I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
See https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/bhrs-ignition-system-offerings-145128/ for that one!
Or........you can go to Mazsport http://www.mazsport.net/store/index....oduct_list&c=9 and get their igntion upgrade, but research this one first....it's not for everyone. Notice the link I gave you that they also sell just the normal coils too, but more expensive than above.

RX8Club has a couple of vendors that will sell them for under $30 each. Go to the top of the main page to see who they are. My local dealers charge between $35 to $85 for them.

I got mine from Rosenthal Mazda aka finishlineperformance.com
I would really like the Mazport coil kit but I can't swing $$$ right now. Maybe someday. The coils are just about the weakest link under the hood and the least expensive to fix with stock replacement parts.
Thanks everyone.
I have not yet heard back from the dealership yet, but I am leaning towards coils (hopefully) They are original as far as I know and that would explain the harder starts.
I'll keep you posted.

I will never buy another Mazda!
I just got a call from the dealer. While installing the new engine they have found that the oil lines were leaking and it will cost several thousand dollars to replace them. This of course isn't being covered by Mazda. This car is just 2 months out of warrenty and it is falling apart. I have had other problems besides the engine that you won't find in this thread.
Mazda built these cars to self-destruct after 4 yrs. Quality?, Bull ****.

Can't say I blame you. Mazda certainly seems to be doing everything in their power to force people to file suit for claims that should be covered by the warranty.
Like there's any real chance the leaking oil lines are NOT related to one of your many engine replacements? Bullshit.

This is such BS!!!!!!
Have you ever seen any oil on the ground? I'm sure you see this also as just an excuse to jack up the bill. What could be leaking that would cost several thousand dollars, the engine is being replaced??? Obviously it would have to be the cooler lines and unless their is a puncher it should be the cost of a seal to fix. Are they saying the oil leak caused the engine failure?
You should tell them to put it back together and you'll have the leak corrected else where.
THIS IS WHY MAZDA SUCKS!!!!!

The dealership has been awesome so far....
Here was my failure that has caused unknown problems so far....
The air intake valve was jammed open which caused air to be sucked into both intake plenums causing bad air to fuel ratio and some seriously bad detonations!
They pulled the code and ordered the part before they even turned a wrench.
Once that part is replaced and the put all new plugs in and the seals and whatever else blew, they are going to investigate the coils and replace if necessary as well as the catalytic converter.
I will scan and post the full service records when it is done.
PS... This is all being covered by the 100k warranty.

Update
News from the dealership. They put the new intake valve in... no compression in one if the banks...
I'm on the list for a new engine. Should have it next Monday. Don't know if it is a reman from Virginia or a brand new from Japan. Won't know till it arrives.
Keep your fingers crossed.
Oh by the way... previously they were going to cover the coils if it was the other problem but now with a new engine they say they won't cover those... weird?!

See if they will throw a '09 engine in there as they have the extra oil injection port(s). But...I think I read somewhere where they won't mate up with the tranny??????

if you lose well i tried! got you covered..
beers
Yeah I will be fighting it if they don't cover them. They are willing to cover the cat if it needs replacing because it will have failed due to the engine failure...soooo wouldn't that be the same for the coils???
Supposed to get my car back today... unless they test the cat and it needs to be replaced too. Then its back to having another cat overnighted to be put on Monday.... Though I am pleased at the effort that my dealership is going through -
Its been 2 1/2 weeks since doomsday. I just wanna drive it before she goes up for the winter.
As promised I will scan and post the entire work order so that it may help someone else in the same situation if their dealership isn't cooperating like mine.
Swoope, still haven't heard if I need those parts yet.

Ok... so the engine is in and running today but not running well. Needs whole coil pack and wires.
Mazda will not pay for these. They say that they might be the reason why I had the problem in the first place.

That sounds about right. Although if they had done it when they swapped the motor they should have given you the labor for free since they had to do the work to take them off the old motor originally.
