Jorge, had to rebuild my computer ...

At ~225000 miles ... I won't be piling up miles as before since I'm sharing road time with another car. Looks like around 23,000 miles annually for the RX from now on.

RX8 Status: so far, everything is still humming along fine; starts up like new, hot or cold

Yeah I use 5w-40 fully synthetic, I guess I'm not using the same petrol as you. I live in Sweden using 95 unleaded.

Warm during days, really cold at nights. ( 59F during days and 28F during nights ) And that's not be the best for the engine. Therefore I installed a engine heater that starts 10 minutes before I start the car.
I would really recommend engine heater if you live up north somewhere. In Sweden the costs for parts and install were 6500 SEK wich is about 1000 dollar. That includes all, coupe warm when you go into the car REALLY NICE! but the biggest benefit is an engine that lives longer. Worth it!

Different octane ratings. RON, MON, AKI lead to different "readings".
95 is the equivalent of your 87ish fuel.

What truly makes our gas better is the overall blend, smaller ethanol percentage etc.

you don't even want to know the cost of fuel in europe... even though their 95 rating is a bit less due to our US RON rating systems.

Well that was ugly haha. I'll stop complaining now haha. I'll admit sadly I know very little about fuel mixtures and and what not, its kinda like the black box syndrome for me.

No, it's about the same as 91 in the USA.

A full tank costs me about 840 SEK, about 130 dollar. That is 95 unleaded, Then if i really want power i get 98 Vpower that is about 18 SEK/litre. So add about almost a dollar per litre.

I oay for one gallon about 9 dollars.

Not cheap but alot of fun!

Elf,

You are a very mysterious person, but you have very good scientific method.

Your Scanguage II data logging a few years ago was very helpful, and I'd say you've proven that a thicker synthetic oil is the best for this engine.

I live in West Texas, a similar climate to you, and change oil at 5k also with 0w40 Mobil 1, but I think the Xw40 part is more important than the brand.

There's no way I'd have over 225000 miles with gas prices like that LOL ...

I used Mobil1 in my previous car, but I just wanted to try something different in the RX8 ... and I like to use to a higher viscosity motor oil in the hotter driving environments. I think all of today's brand-name oils are good, so it's really a matter of personal preference --- or availability.

Hmmm ... mysterious person, eh ... haven't been call that before, but I have been called 6-letter, two 4-letter, 3-letter + 4-letter, and other assorted words before

Well, I'm chasing you still elf... I'm at 190k miles now... but I'm not sure I'll catch you if you think you are still averaging 23k miles a year! My miles are piling on a little slower these days... I think about 21k-22k a year.

Is there anyone else you have run into that has broken the 200k mark? Or for that matter the 175k mark besides me?

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on you! LOL

Seriously, I haven't seen anyone else post a mileage close to 200K, other than you. BTW, I'm slightly over 229,000 miles now --- almost time for another oil change

You are unreal! I'll never catchup to you!

I was having issues with starting this summer... hard to turn over and long starts... my dealer wanted to do a compression test (but I refused!). They always want to do a compression test. I'm pretty sure just the mention of a compression test is the kiss of death to a rotory enging :D

I had some body work done early this fall and the shop left the trunk open all weekend with lights on in the car. Then tried to start it and cranked it for at least a cou0ple of minutes, I think... she was flooded and didn't have enough juice to do anything (and this was after I had given very specific instructions that if it wouldn't turnover in 10 seconds... call me and do not keep cranking). So in it went to the dealer... who said the starter was smoking... and of course wanted to do a compression test...

They replaced the starter, charged the dead battery and now it starts better than when it was new!

No compression testor is getting near my baby! That is just a curse waiting to happen.

Damn, I'm so close. Just about to hit 160,000 miles on original engine. Seems that I may have a freeze plug or coolant seal leak. Starting to notice the fluid level of my cooling system drop, dirty coolant fluid, longer start-up(warm and cold), and sweet smell and white fumes out of the exhaust

What scares me is the "dirty coolant fluid"......let us know which way you go from here...
