i've seen some of those trucks with over 400,000 miles on the original engine

Let's see how long mine will last
The wifey's 2001 Accord has 450,000 on the original engine The thing is still running strong.

My RX hasn't been driven in about a month, so it's still around 240,000+ miles on the original engine. Gonna pack on some mileage this month and in May, though, before the WHiV 2012 event LOL

I'm still chasing you Elf! lol

Ordered my 8 around March of 2003... took delivery at the start of September 2003 with only 2 miles on the odometer. Now she has over 200k on the odometer!

Received my clean bill of health this week (new inspection sticker) and a new set of Bridgestone S04 Pole Positions sneakers for the summer!

Here are a few pics taken the first week I had the car followed by the magic flip of the odometer.

Thanks Guys!

Still on the origional engine, transmission and clutch! I am, however, on my third set of oil cooler lines... the salt up here in New England during the winter really is doing a job on a few places on my poor 8.

My seceret.... nothing to special, proper maintenance, a few sets of coils, plugs and plug wires... and drive it to red line at least once a day!

I guess since everyone always wants to know... I should add... standard 5-20 oil for the engine... synthetic in the transmission and differential.

I would love to tear apart your engine when it does fail.

Good going.....What type of driving does it get? How much oil does it consume? Do you premix?

No premixing.

As for my driving... that is a good question.

My commute to work everyday and back is about 28 miles each way, on a stretch of road that is marked 55mph but when able, typically cruises around 75mph... however, at least a third of that distance usually turns into 30mph or less with sections that are stop and go for a couple of miles.

On the weekends, i used to get a couple of hundered miles of mostly highway driving as I commuted to and from the house of someone I was seeing. The last 4 years however have not included that commute except every few months to see some friends and family in different direction, but all around the same distance and mostly on the highway still.

The car has seen a few track days (had plans to do more and then life caught up with me...) and has also participated in probably a dozen or so "spirited drives" along scenic roads in Northern VT and NH.

Of course there have been a number of longer distance trips to parts of NY City and up state as well (I live in souther NH).

So I think you could safely say the car has experienced a nice mixed of all sorts of driving! Did I mention it is my daily driver, 24/7/365? So it has experienced hot hummid summer days (though not quite florida/texas/arizone style) and it has seen plenty of sub zero weather as well (and let's not even talk about the amount of salt it has seen ).

Oil consumption (outside of track days) is typically about a quart ever 1.5k-2k miles. I think/feel that consumption may have increased a bit from when it was new... perhpas more around every 1.5k these days.

Traditionally I have seen mileage around 20-20.5mpg. Though it would seem the last couple of years I'm more around 18mpg. I think this is partly the result of age (and probably some loss of compression, though the car still pulls pretty strong), partly the result of ethanol being introduced in the gas more the past couple of years (NH actually was slower than most states with the introduction of ethanol and some other recent additives, even initially having some exceptions made to meeting federal guidlines over concerns of environmental impacts) and lastly, I had a cooling fan go out a couple of winters ago... this inturn took out the other cooling fan as they are wired in series (how stupid is that!). As it was winter, it didn't really cause an issue (and I didn't notice they were gone), until I was idling for 15 minutes one day... and then I saw steam coming out from under the hood. You have to love that if you leave the gas cap lose you get all these warning lights and would think the world was ending... but an overheating car, no buzzer, no warning lights, just a needle that slowly moves north, unnoticed, unless you are staring at it. Ever since that incident, I feel I have lost around 1.5mpg and never gotten it back who knows where it went, I'm sure I don't want to think to hard about it.

As for a compression test... never done one. I sort of look at that as a sure way to jinx my car and besides, what can it really tell me at this point? That I've lost some compression? That my engine may die at somepoint? Not like I can do anything to change either of those two points (and my warrenty was gone a long time ago!) So might as well save the cost of the compression test and just keep on driving lol

Oh dear, there is a thought I'm not quite ready to think about! lol.

Hey, if you want to pay to have the engine pulled and shipped, I'd be happy to send you a PM, if and when that day comes. I'd kinda be interested to know what it looks like as well. Heck, you would think Mazda would be interested, I mean how many engines have made it this far? In this thread I only know of two of us! lol

Jezz, I would be more than happy if I got 200K (330K KMS) from my engine.

You won't know yourself with a new engine.

Not sure exact mileage (car is at the dealer) but I would guess it is about 200,150.

Haven't torn the engine down... living in a condo, I'm not sure that is an option for me. But given the metallic clanking sound from the engine... I'm going with an apec seal gave out. My mechanic described it as "Rotor #2 blew apart".

That sucks dude. But it was bound to happen any day, that thing has probably been losing compression for a long time. I am curious if any of the major parts are reusable. I would love to see the bearings.
