What price would you aim for with a.
Pearl White Mica
05 RX-8 6 speed Manual Trans
New or Used: New
Mileage: 618
Package: GT, Nav system, 6 disc CD player, Spare tire kit, Rear Wing Spoiler
MSRP: $35,000 (rounded around)
Rebates: They say they are offering a $7,000 rebate to all the 05 that they have to help get them off the lot.

So what would a good OTD price be to aim for on this type of car?

I'm not sure of taxes, etc in CA (I heard it was high) so I can't estimate OTD, but I would aim more than $7k off sticker. I just bought a new '05--it was a touring, msrp around $31,700. I actually got a little more than $10k off (around $21,400 before taxes, etc.) The dealership I went to had quite a few '05s- maybe 5--so I assume the more they have the more desperate they will be to get rid of them. I also went in at the very end of the month, and actually printed out some of the best deals people on here were saying they were getting. When their first offer or two wasn't as good as what some other people were claiming to get, I pulled out my printouts and told them I want a deal like these. They came back and said that it was just "meaningless internet talk" but they dropped the price by $1,500, lol! So, i guess my point is if you negotiate it right, I would try to get more like $8,000-10,000 off, especially b/c they are able to drop the price of the higher priced ones more and it is fairly late into '06. (However, you live in CA and I live in Cleveland, so the market there is probably somewhat different, but I still think you should definately get more than $7,000 off.)

That MSRP is incorrect ($36500). Highest a Shinka goes with everything including wing and appearance is $34900. Congrats on the nice deal in any event.

I just bought one!

I was a bit leary with the recall in the works, but I decided to go for it anyway. I had 2 dealers trying to get my business on the very last day of the month. I didn't know at the time that they have to meet a certain quota or they won't get any money from Mazda.

Final Price: $25,500 + tax and license
Model Year: 2006
Model (AT/MT): MT
Options: Grand Touring Package
MSRP: $31,505
Date of purchase (month/year): 08-31-06
Location (city/state): Burlingame, CA
Financed/Cash purchase: Leased with $5,000 down
Interest rate (if relevant): 6.25%
New/Used: New

I was going to buy the car with cash, but decided against it, again because of the recall. This way I'm not stuck in case mine ends up being a lemon. Current MAC financing is at over 10%!

I'm not quite sure if I got a good deal. I think maybe I could have gotten them to come down a little more.

Final Price: $21,837 ($21,400 for the car, $399 dealer prep, $38 tag and title)
Model Year: 2005 Velocity Red
Model (AT/MT): MT
Options: Sport package, fender strakes
Date of purchase (month/year): 9/2006
Location (city/state): Atlanta, GA
Financed/Cash purchase: Associated Credit Union 60 months
Interest rate (if relevant): 4.9%
New/Used: NEW

MSRP was $28,695 (doesn't include the fender strakes, I added those in the deal)

I was originally looking for some sort of a used car (not necessarily an RX-8, though they were in the list), but the deal they had on the new 2005 RX-8 was roughly the same price as a used one would be around here, so not only is this my first RX, it's actually my first Mazda and the first new car I've ever purchased (and I've been driving for 20+ years!).

And my first post on these forums, thanks for all the great info here!

Final Price: 27000 OTD
Model Year: 2005
Model (AT/MT): MT
Options: Pearl White, Grand Touring, Appearance package, Rotary accent package, 6 CD changer, all weather mats, and door edge guards
Date of purchase (month/year): 09/06
Location (city/state): FT Lauderdale/FL
Financed/Cash purchase: Financed 60 Mo
Interest rate (if relevant): 6.9 (first car loan)
New/Used: New

Helpful additional information-

MSRP: around 33,500

How you did it: I called every dealership in a 200 mile radius asking for new 05's, also searched online. I found quite a few but I narrowed it down to a black gt and a white gt, got both down to the same price and went with the white because I liked the way the dealership treated me on the phone and the black ended up having a "small 2 inch dent" after we agreed on the price. I preferred black but not by much. I ended up getting nearly 10k off msrp. The dealership told me they ended up with a 4k loss on the deal. I did everything over the phone and email and I went from having a car I did not like to an awesome car in a few days

Comments: I got the car from Lou Bachroudt Mazda, I highly recommend, they have been treating me fantastically for basically stealing a car from them. Also I have been lurking on this site for a few months after accidentally test driving an rx-8 while helping a friend shop for a small SUV. We were looking at the tribute and I see this weird looking sporty car next to it and say to the salesmen "isn’t that the car with the rotary engine ... let me test drive it, I've always wondered what a rotary felt like". I fell in love after the test drive so I took some time, sold my awful homoerotic mini cooper s, and I have never been happier.

oh and this forum has really helped me alot and im sure it will help even more with general news as well as DIY maintenance

Arriving this afternoon!!!

Final Price: $31,600 (incl. ~$500 delivery fee + $199 doc fee, but not taxes/registration fees)
Model Year: 2007
Model (AT/MT): 6MT Phantom Blue
Options: GT w/Sand leather interior, Appearance, Rotary Accents, Spoiler
Date of purchase (month/year): 9/06
Location (city/state): Little Rock, AR
Financed/Cash purchase: Financed with Suntrust through MAC
Interest rate (if relevant): 7.99% for 72 months (credit score just under 700 - highest bracket; bank would only give 8.4%)
New/Used: BRAND SPANKING NEW!

MSRP: ~$33,949 (w/o extra fees)
How you did it: Mazda S-Plan

Comments: I was originally looking for an '06 Phantom Blue, and I know I could've gotten a much better deal that way, but then I learned that the '07s had the lighter-colored Sand interior available on all colors. The extra $2-3K is definitely worth it to me in order to get *exactly* what I want in my first ever brand-new car.

Also my first post here, so howdy y'all!

I'm looking at picking up a 2004 RX8 GT with Mazda speed Front Facia Skirting, Rear Under Skirt, Side Skirt, Adustable Mazda Speed Rear Wing Spoiler, Mazda Speed Cat Back Exhaust, Mazda Speed Carbon Fiber Front Strut Bar, Mazda Speed Rear Strut Bar, Mazda Speed Springs, Mazda Speed Front and Rear Shocks, Motegi 18" Racing Wheels. The car only has 6500 miles on it. They are asking $25,000 and will not budge at all on the price. This seems like a pretty good deal (9k worth of extras) but figured I'd check to see what others thought.
