What was your closing price?

I'm a numbers-oriented guy - I don't want to pine my hopes on an $8000 off MSRP if only a small minority gets it.

For starters, Edmunds estimates that people in my city pay this much for a base 6-speed '05 after destination & tax:

True Market Value w/ dest. & tax: $27,387
MSRP w/ dest. & tax: $29,081
Invoice w/ dest. & tax: $26,928

I couldn't find another thread quite like this, so here's some ground rules:

1. Please post your final price, after tax, destination, title, and anything else you threw in there. Although this can seem like a difficult task to do in light of all the different prices you're quoted (MSRP, invoice, pre-tax price, etc..), there's ultimately only one figure that you're paying off or that you paid in cash, so just go with that one.

2. Here's a template:

Final Price:
Model Year:
Model (AT/MT):
Options:
Date of purchase (month/year):
Location (city/state):
Financed/Cash purchase:
Interest rate (if relevant):
New/Used:

Helpful additional information-

MSRP:
How you did it:
Comments:

EDIT: Added Interest Rate.

Considering I've not bought mine (yet), here is all I know.

Several dealerships in the Chicagoland/Southern Wisconsin area are offering anywhere from 3-7k off, depending on where you go.

This is with all applicable incentives. One, actually, offered 8,000 off, and 9,000 if you finance through MAC.

That's not a bad deal for a 34k car.

Others will be able to tell you more, I'm sure.

State tax variance

State sales tax varies from 0 - 7%, plus many municipalities tack on their own tax; as a result wouldn't it be simpler to back the taxes out of the cost comparisons? I know I'm not eager to research everyone's tax sitution.

Not too fast there buddy... If you live in the Republik of Kalifornia you pay ~8.5% taxes...

I paid ~$20K CASH for mine used '04(MT, GTP, Borla Exhaust, MS Flywheel, MS Sway bars, new Tires, Wilwood Brakes) with 40K miles in May'05. No way I would have paid more than this on a used car.

Good point, but how about the possibility that sales tax makes dealers consider changing the pre-tax price proportionately? If anything, please include pre & post tax.

Im looking for a new 05 manual rx8 with the sport and appearance package on it, what would you guys consider a good closing price (msrp: 29,500ish). Also i will be paying for about 12k in cash, do you think that would benefit or hurt me. I would think it would be bad because they will not be making the proffit from the interest therefore forcing them to keep the price a bit higher.
