The convo went kinda like this:
"Remember me calling a few weeks after the replacement engine was installed? I complained the car is NOT running right - the engine feels weak?"
'Yeah'
"Took it to the dyno...it's down more than SIXTY hp in some areas. Think I could convince you to look at it now?"
'Sure - wednesday okay?'
I'm bringing the charts with me.

It's there! He said "We'll go through the required Mazda tests and see what's up...but we dont have access to dynos."
Tomorrow I'll call him with a local dyno shop's #.

Good luck. I hope it's just some actuator rod spinning in it's sleeve, and all they need to do is tighten a set screw. Or something else equally easy which results in the service writer groveling at your feet for forgiveness (or at least comping you some swag).

Still in the shop. He said he can't find anything specifically wrong with anything. The cat 'tested' okay (some sorta back-pressure test or something?)...

hmmm. I'd be interested to hear about their back pressure test. Do they just blow really hard into the cat inlet? Maybe it's the intake then. They should be able to test pressure changes at each stage of the intake and see if one of the runner butterfly valves is stuck. But like we were talking about that should throw a CEL right?
Probably a cotter pin came loose. Always used to happen on my little red tractor when I was a kid. I'd be barreling down the driveway and the dang cotter pin for the steering column would come loose and fall out and then I'd lose steering at about 30 mph and go *** over teakettle into the bushes.
Gotta be a cotter pin...
This is better than a soap opera DMP. Tune in next week...
Oh Kris, here's something to control your cat...

After Eight days Mazda told the dealer they will not fix/replace anything. "Everything about this engine tested 'normal'" is their excuse. :-/
I have an appointment to speak with a district guy, but I'm not holding my breath for anything good to come of this.

That is absolute BS!!!! Does the dealer think your car is running properly?? Does he agree that your dyno data is valid? My suggestion is to grab a lawyer and consult with them before you meet the district guy. The guys should be reasonable with you and agree that your car is not running properly and needs to be repaired. I mean what's the big deal about replacing the cat and the coils to see if it works better??

If they can't figure out how to make your car run right, I say we picket that particular dealer. Their obviously not communicating candidly with Mazda. After all the crap Mazda went through with HP when the first units arrived, and all the bad press from the engine recall, there's no way in hell they'd want a car on the road that had your problems. Somebody isn't doing his job at that dealer.
