CanScan damaged from map upload?
Okay guys. My CanScan has now quit working for the second time. The scenario is like this: I'll do a log run and then cruise back to the garage for a map tweak. I'll disconnect the laptop from the CanScan, but leave the CanScan plugged in to the OBD port while I tweak my map. Then, when I plug the laptop into the CanScan to log again, I get a message "vehicle not responding".
I sent the unit is the first time and Dan replaced the Can tranciever. Now its happened a second time. I can't really believe that the map upload operation is sending a current spike through the can network and blowing out this chip, but it's really, really unlikely that its coming defective from the factory.
Are you guys disconnecting from the OBD port prior to tweaking the map? Any ideas?

I have (2) USB ports on my laptop, so I leave them both attached at the same time. So I am of no help with your situation. The CANScan is a pesky critter though, and I have had it quit on me before. Maurice is getting close to releasing a newer ROM chip and software to iron out a few left over bugs - should be real soon.
Has nothing to do with the map upload....they are seperate. The Canscan will stop working sometimes...and usually it has to do with a USB problem on your laptop. If you unplug it without closing it it will hang on to the port....and when you try and start again...it won't work.
Try rebooting the laptop, or go into the task manager and see iff the program is still running as a process...and shut it down there.....

I ordered my Canscan (serial DB9) 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't come in (I'm in TX). Maurice replied saying they're working on getting the bugs fixed and will ship it soon.
Is there a difference between the serial cable vs. the usb version as far as how they operate? I ordered teh serial cable because I already have a usb to serial converter for the emanage.

I tried to get my CANScan to work again today, and no luck. I reset everything, and still no luck. Maybe this will fix my problem also.

Hey Nem - what does the status window say when your unit isn't working?

This is what I got from Dan
"We don't really have an upgrade to the USB version, the USB tool uses a different circuit altogether. We can give you a discount of $30 off the price of a new tool.
Sincerely
Dan Harrison
"
Basically, I think I got discount on buying the new usb unit instead of an upgrade of the serial to usb unit

I'm going to uninstall everything, then re-install everything and se if that fixes it.
