New Owner SAFE Question and Answer thread
There is an easy way to do a compression test if you don't have a tester ...... Remove one plug from one rotor and turn engine over with battery... you should hear even pulses
plug that hole and take a plug from another rotor and listen again . It should sound he same as the other side . Stong even pulses . Two weak pulses followed by one strong is classic blown apex . All weak pulses could be side seals .

Yes I am a new owner of a 2004 RX8.
The question I have concerns adding Sirius to my radio.
The option for satellite input became available in the late 2004 RX8s.
I do not want to add the Sirius controllers.
Is there a RX8 radio/model that I can purchase to keep my car a true RX8.
I also am wondering if the electrical system needs to be changed.
Can you help me?

(this my first club thread)
Update: Well the worst has become reality. The front rotor has no compression. I will be starting a thread soon with pics of the tear down and rebuild. Thanks again to Brettus for the tip. I also want to make sure RWWIP gets a special thanks for not giving up on me.
Sorry to hear that surfnlow. I'm in the middle of a 4 port swap myself .
Which brings up a couple of questions I can't help but ask.
1st question:
The car has been sitting since October when she blew. I'm not sure what happened to her but rough idle and won't idle very long and has a horrible cranking speed. I moved the car out of the garage today for the first time in 2 months +. I noticed about a 1/8 cup of anti freeze on the ground. What could this mean? Is there a component I should replace that would cause this leak? Water pump, radiator, thermostat?
2nd question: My mechanic was going to do this swap for me for a good price, but I can't afford it being laid off at the moment. Myself needing transportation to get to and from work once I get another job I have decided that I will attempt to tackle this with my girlfriends father. Hes swapped many v8 engines auto and manual and I am confident in his abilities. Were going to be checking in the removal thread for pics and info. Is this an easy enough job for someone to do if they have past experience pulling engines just not rotaries? I guess this second question I'm just looking for reassurance from some experts. Keep in mind I will be helping him and am not to bad of a wrencher, just have never swapped an engine, only easy stuff ie: spark plugs, wires, coils, intake etc...
Thanks

Ok, last question before I start my new thread for the rebuild. I found a 4 port donor motor and I have the 6 port. I just need to swap the end plates to line up with the intake right? I am not getting the motor until Sunday, just trying to plan ahead.

Uh, no. Any swap between different Renesis designs will require the exchange of the ECU, which will require the exchange or re-coding of every other electronics module in the car (since they are all interconnected) It is VERY costly. Just find a 6-port donor, it's the better engine anyway.

Just curious, I was just going to transfer the parts over and use the 4 port block with the 6 port intake. If nothing else, I can use the 4 port block for parts right? Or are they completely different? I am still going to use my intake mani.
Last little tid-bit before I give up on it. The price for the complete 4 port motor is $450. assuming that the housing and rotor on mine need to be replaced, do you think the purchase is justifiable? I see that the housings are the same for both 4 and 6 ports. The motor is a full complete motor including alt, ac compressor and starter with airbox. He is also including the passenger side fender because mine has a dent near the headlight. At that price, the extra components are are worth it by themselves. I could sell off the parts on here for dirt cheap for another owner in need if I can't use them. What do you think?

At $450, the accessory components themselves might be worth more than that. I wouldn't pay it just for the engine, but with everything else....
Your call.

Hey all... I have a question of my series 1 rx 8... Hope someone can help... In the trunk there is a small compartment where there were some tools that suppose to be there, but my tools are no longer there. Can someone show me a picture of the complete set and list down what's inside?
Thanks appreciate it much

Do you mean the flat tire kit? If so it isn't a number of tools, just a tube of fix a flat and a 12v DC air compressor.
That's the only thing i can think of stock. If there is anything else in there, it would be non-factory, and from a prior owner.

i just found out my fuel pump nozzle was cracked. i noticed in other threads people said they found fuel pumps for sale for 150. i cant find any at that price, the lowest i found was this one
Import Direct Fuel A33078 - Electric Fuel Pump Module Assembly | O'Reilly Auto Parts
for 200 dollars. i just wanted to double check that this fuel pump will work before i buy it, and if anyone knows where i could get one cheaper it would be a tremendous help. also, would it help if i put like electrical tape over the nozzle until the part comes in?
thank you

Oh! Forgot about that. It's just for the jack, tire iron, and tow hooks. Replace with anything you would like. I use a 24" breaker bar with a 21mm socket. More leverage, better angle.

I would get OEM unless your planning for more power down the road. An OEM pump can be had for like $50 shipped. I bought one and it works great.

Have you opened the hood to take a look at it? It could be anything from a busted belt to a belt caked in ice to a belt coated in coolant that was getting dumped from the overflow, etc...
Take a look a the belts and let us know what they look like. Take pictures if you can post them.

Please don't spam the same thing across multiple areas of the forum.
There aren't many "RX-8" mechanics, however the RX-8 is very easy to work on, and very expensive to pay someone else do work on it. Most enthusiasts here end up learning how to work on their car themselves because of this.

Sorry you didn't have an answer; some things require a mechanic.I did get one answer to another post.
Hi, was looking at my car, tried to find pictures of rx8 engine to find out where this tube plugs into. couldnt find a decent shot of it.
could someone take a look and please tell me? i tried to find anywhere it would attach to, but it doesnt look like anything.
tubes circled in red, it seems to be connected to the air intake if that helps

thank you.
and i posted this hear because i genuinely think a "whats this plug into?" is a stupid question
