The only real fix for the coolant sensor failure is replacement of the entire bottle. There is no function issue if that is the problem, just means the light will be on when it shouldn't be.
That being said, if the coolant level continually needs to be topped off, either there is a leak somewhere that should be found, the car is overheating too much and coolant is overflowing out of the bottle (which the overflow tube is right above the power steering and radiator fan connectors, which can cause them problems), or there is a failed coolant seal in the engine, and it's only a matter of time before engine failure.
Not to scare you, but just things to look for or rule out.

Hi, I'm a new (to me) owner of a 04. After reading a few of the earlier posts about the guy buying a 8 from a guy that has all his records for maintenance. I too looked at the carfax before buying to make sure it wasnt wrecked etc.. but im assuming the previous owner of my 8 did his own maintenance.. and he really only drove it 7k miles a year for his 5 years of owning it.. (it has 59k on it now) say in the future if my engine did crap out (god i hope not) would mazda be difficult with honoring the 100k/8 yr warranty?
second question.. would adding a air intake to the car help with clearing carbon out of the motor.. i've followed everything to a T that people have talked about on this website.. topping off.. checking oil.. not shutting the car off without running it for 5 mins.. red lining once a day.. i know red lining will help with clearing carbon out.. so basically.. would adding the air intake add to the help of red lining?

Air intakes don't really add anything significant to air flow or fuel flow that alters this, for good or bad. If you want to do something to keep the carbon clear, seafoam once or twice a year.

Redlining is the best thing for carbon. I PERSONALLY have seafoamed my car once (to remove carbon deposits in engine) and I also premix.
Also, nice job to RIWWP making this post. Needs a sticky.

Thanks.
New owner question threads are popping up everywhere. When I glanced at iSpy last night, there were 4 new threads from new or prospective owners on that list alone. Most of their questions are repeats or similar, and there wasn't a place to address them already that wasn't buried in threads or split up between stickies.

Registered just so I could give you a huge thumbs up for this post
I recently purchased my RX8 about 6 months ago and used this site extensively for research. While all the info can be found, a lot of it is spread out and some is not updated for series 2, or otherwise doesn't indicate if it applies.
Having all this in one post and up to date will really be helpful for new people.
Thanks!

It really depends on the dealer. I have heard of some asking for all the records, and trying to use 1 missed record as a reason to deny. Others aren't asking at all. Most seem to only look for the past 10-15k of records.
If this is a hanging point for you, then stop by the dealer (or dealers) that you might have to use, and ask them "if I get this 8, will you require records from the prior owner in order to honor the warranty?"
