Katie's Cars & Coffee - Great Falls - #1 Cars & Coffee in the DMV

From what I understand, there tends to be a pretty good showing of exotics and other rare cars, plus all the other fun stuff you see at normal meets.

I've read some articles about it and scanned through some photo albums of past meets, and it seems like it really is worth the 6am hike to VA.

is this really only from 630-930 or is it kind of an all day thing?...because i would be cool with checking it out but its kinda early for a saturday morning lol

I go to hunt valley c&c basically every Saturday morning that I'm not doing anything else. I like that its early cause that way it doesn't intrude in the rest of my day and typically my wife and the boys are still sleeping when I get back around 10 ish

I need to join you soon. I grew up right down the street, if you are referring to the Wegmans.

I'm pretty sure it's just in the early am. The timing definitely sucks, but I've heard pretty good things about it.

Chris and Geno are like college boys, sleeping off their Friday night haha!

I like the serenity of cruising all alone through the twisty wooded back roads of northern Baltimore County at 6:30 on my way in, maybe next time I'll be joined by a maserati or a turbocharged R32 Golf, or a Countach or a model T Ford.

I would've scoffed at it too as a younger guy, maybe i'm starting to become an old man now wtf?!

Well, I'll be out the door at 6 tomorrow, meeting up with Alex on my way to Bowie for autocross on the new used tires. I hope to kick some GT86 asses! I think I haven't autocrossed the RX8 since Chris's first event! O_O

BTW, my clutch pedal bracket broke again from my crappy spot welds, so i pulled it off and took it to my friend Corey's place and stitch welded the **** out of it. It may be the strongest part of my car now. :D

The culprit has been found! Cracked cap seat was preventing the coolant system from pressurizing! On a list of least expensive to most expensive problems this was just about the cheapest one, and the Renesis lives to drive another day!!

Yean man, it was a good day, and thanks again for taking almost the whole day to help with it. I considered calling out tomorrow to get it done. lol But considering I'm taking off two other days this week, it's probably not a good idea. So yeah, I will definitely let you know what the next best day is.

Btw the tablet battery overheated even with the sunshade up. Guess it's just something I'll have to live with unless we can come up with some way to cool it. Got DashCommand up and working though and it does look very cool in the car.

I was thinking bout that mod you where talking bout to direct cool air up to the tablet from the center air vents, well what about when winter comes and the is heat and defrosters are being used. wouldn't that be blowing more hot air on it? I think I'm going to try some type of computer fan and maybe ventilation.

It really shouldn't matter, by the time you would be turning the heat on it would be such a small amount it wouldn't make much difference. Likewise it doesn't make enough of a difference with the cold air so it's still not a viable option.
The best option (and what I'm considering) is install a fan like you said, but that would just be for the electronics, the best option would be to crack the tablet open and move the battery down into the dash or foot-well where it would be much cooler. Anything less than this really won't be enough to combat the massive amount of heat that gets trapped in there, and even if you can get it down to where it charges, it is still a horrible environment for a battery.

I didn't even know you were having cooling issues, did it over heat or was it just not cooling as well as it should?

And preferably have some type of contacts out that way, don't want to be the oddball rolling up with everyone wondering who the hell I am.

There's a few of us scattered around. I'm on KI for the rest of this year until I skip over to another island out west to make home .

I'm down for a OC meet if anyone knows of a good sushi place out there. Any western shore guys want to come I'll meet you @ the Kent Island park n ride then roll with you guys up to OC.

Paging Rotr8. Up for some Sushi @ the beach Greg?

All was well until I went to autocross, the car didn't overheat but since that crack was present, there was no pressure in the system to keep expansion under control. So even at normal temperature it was surging out.

Unfortunately when I went to replace the cracked bottle last night, I went to pull off the hose from the bottle to the top of the radiator and the nipple on top of the radiator crumbled. It didn't take kindly to being removed for the first time since 2005.

So now a new radiator($200) is on my "to buy" list, along with oil lines($475), plug wires($30), clutch pedal bracket reinforcement ($70), center console slider and a glove box latch

You guys could take a hint from the prius and put a solar panel on the top of the console that powers a large PC cooling fan, then you get cooling when needed and less when it's not. The more intense the sunlight and thus heat, the harder the fan circulates, and it wont draw from the vehicle battery. Whole cooling package would cost you 20 dollars tops.

When you say center console slider, do you mean the clip that keeps the sliding cover over the console in place when shut?

Did your visor commit suicide just like mine?

Depending on where you're meeting up/driving to and what time, I'd be interested. I get off of work around 6am, so I could only really do an afternoon drive. If it works for my schedule, I'm there!
