You have the Galaxy Tab setup, right? I'm really interested in doing that and I'm already pricing 7" tablets. Does your tablet turn off when the car power is off and/or the Nav hood is down?
No it doesn't turn off, I have an app called tasker turn the screen off and on (also how it says "Welcome" when it opens and plays a tone when closed) when it detects the angle of the tablet being changed. There isn't any real way to have it turn on and off when the car is turned on and off, and even if you could the load time on the tablet would drive me nuts. If you rooted the tablet you could have it shut off with the car, but there still would be no way to turn it back on.

If you are looking for a tablet other than the Samsung Galaxy tab2 7" make sure it is one someone else has previouly used or the outer dimensions are close to the galaxy. Also keep in mind that not all 7" screens have the same viewable dimensions (dependent on aspect ratio) and the scree may not match up with the opening as well and you may have to cut the screen opening (which will lead to all kinds of additional work).

I've also been considering installing a switch to allow me to charge it even when the car is off (now it is accessory power), so if it starts to run down (as it does if you leave your car sitting for days at a time like I often do). Also it will charge much faster when in a low power state than it will if you have the screen all the way up and programs like dash command running.

Let me know if you decide to do it and want help.

Great, thanks for the info. I was probably going to get the Galaxy Tab 2 as well. I already know it's a great tablet, so seeing that it fits in the Nav hood really well, I think it's a perfect choice.

I would definitely appreciate some help with it. As long as it charges whenever the accessory power is on, that should be fine, since I drive it every day. When I find one for $150 or less, I'll let you know.

I did some testing when I first installed it (in case you wanted to know) it takes about 15minutes of driving a day to maintain power level at idle or 20-25 minutes if you have the screen at full brightness with something resource intensive like dashcommand running.

Oh also I love the look of the Mazdaspeed kit, I always thought it was cool in pictures, but I feel like they don't do it justice. I think that is the way I want to go with mine eventually (if I can ever find one that is...) Also love the wheels.

Let me know when you get the tab and I have a dremel if you need one.

Thanks! Yeah, I think the wheels fit the style of the car very well (and the MS kit). I'm going to try and touch up some of the paint chips in the wheels, maybe tomorrow.

I'm watching a couple used Galaxy Tab auctions, so I might go that route to get it even cheaper (if it's in perfect condition). I might even be buying one as early as today. Btw, where did you tap into for power?

I would have had a great time, had I been there. Which I wasn't.

Also in case anyone hasn't seen it, here is the post about the BBQ: Click Here
Looking good guys. Wish I could have been there to meet everyone and hang out.

I didn't get too many pics, but here are a few more. Too bad we couldn't get the shots we meant to of each car driving down the road. What happened with that anyway? lol Anyone have the pics of everyone standing next to their cars?

Great meeting you all this weekend...definitely cool to see more enthusiast owners in the area, rather than the few cars I have seen that are either bone stock, or trashed. I'll have to see how I'm doing following my return from Vancouver before the BBQ get together...I'd love to make it out!

Hey everyone i friend of mine is putting together some kind of "end of summer" footage from all the track races, street races, shows, cruises, etc.......... I think it would be a good chance to add some rotary love to this short film. I'm taking some of what i got form last weekend and giving it to him but i think more should be added to it.

i'm going to see if i can get a hold of another gopro and if anyone is up for it we do some more cruises with the cams mounted on our cars.

Sure, we should try to get some at the BBQ.

Hey! you can be bone stock AND an enthusiast! I just choose to modify myself to the highest level of performance BEFORE I modify my cars

btw, You should add to your sig what sort of rubber you have wrapped around those sweet RPF1's
*edit, I see that they are Potenzas I'm looking for what sort specifically...

Not to mention if you took a bone stock RX-8 with a strong good compression engine and put it up against one with every bolt-on money could buy I doubt there would be all that much difference. Especially not $5-10k worth as the stuff for our car is so expensive...
I modify my car for the fun of it, I really don't expect it to perform any better, but if it does, score.

Oh speaking of which, where did you get the rear end you gave to Chris?

^This.

Also, Jay I'd be interested in getting some video footage of my car driving (never had the chance to get it in action before), so maybe we can make something happen. I'm going to try and make it to the BBQ as well.

I swapped my OEM diff for Benben1's wrecked R3. Then swapped mine for Chris' some months later.

BTW, I'm not hating on anyone who modifies their car, I'm just pointing out that someone can be very much a RX8 enthusiast and have no mods at all.

Oh and here's my hack job clutch pedal bracket, shoddily welded back together. Seems to be holding for now though!

When did your pedal break? I had it happen in January or February and ended up just buying a new pedal. I should probably get one of those braces and put it on but haven't gotten around to it yet.

What ever happened with your oil lines?

it broke yesterday, and the oil lines are still in their quick fixed configuration. It seems a steadily increasing percentage of my car is botched together with gaffer tape.

If you got the new redesigned pedal it should be fine without reinforcement, check the part number against the one in the clutch pedal bracket thread

It's the newer one. I have a ton of play in mine since I put the new one in though, like before it starts to actually disengage... It's really annoying.

You can adjust the pedal to take the free play out

Welcome to the group Brandon.

The next meet-up that I am aware of will be at Bladeiai's place in Frederick on Sept. 15th. We are all getting together for an Autocross event with the Capital Driving Club that morning and then going to his place for a BBQ.

We'd love to have you out!
