8:30 AM this morning I got behind a yellow 8 just before crossing the Bay Bridge going west bound. Rode together until I got off I-97 at MD-32. Was this anybody on here? I thought it might be Striker-7, but the exhaust looked stock, not borla.

I wont be able to make the sushi meet either . Car is at the dealer trying to get a gear grinding issue fixed. Keep having to jump through so many holes. Not fun, really wanted my car for this weekend too.

Ouch you do a lot of driving. But I can relate. My 100 mile daily commute is depressing.

yea, i could probably do that too...i just love driving. supposed to be switching over to a different insurance company today. once that is all settled i can go and TRY to get my plates today...but if they make me go thru maryland state inspection, i might have some trouble. although, i do have some hook ups (just don't feel like paying more money).

oh, and my car is running rough, so i placed an order for the BHR ignition system. took out the stock coils last night and the damn things got so hot the plastic housing started to warp...what junk!!!

Dan I'm looking to do the BHR ignition system here soon to my 8. I've been searching online and can't find a place to order or check the price. Also is it a fairly easy install for a diy?

you need to PM Charles R. Hill and he'll put in the order for you. it's like $499 thru paypal/credit car and slightly cheaper if you do check or money order. i think it's like $489. both are prices including shipping.

as for the install, i haven't done one personally, but it doesn't really require much to remove the stock coil packs. should take you no longer than 20 mins. whenever you get them and need them put in, just give me a holler. i'd be glad to help you out. or maybe we can arrange a small install meet with other 8 owner's who need parts installed.

Did you figure out why they got that hot?

well...i know it wasn't because of engine bay temps. definately internal resistance. the coil packs failed internally and basically fried itself. my original coils did the same exact thing. my guess, mazda just made some cheap *** coil packs.

Awesome thanks Dan. Right now I'm trying to get my trans issue fixed under warranty and the dealer is giving me a little scare.

As far as the coils the stock coils aren't great, but from what I understand they really put them through hell in the normal operation of the car. The difference between the stock coils and my BHR ones were night and day, but my OEM coils were 30k miles old. The installation of the BHR ones is pretty easy, its just a tight fit, but the quality is excellent, and you just have to fiddle with it to get the plate to mount in such a way that the harness fits. I would be more than happy to help anybody put the BHR ones in, as I think I'm the only one locally that has them so far, but I didn't have much of a problem so that speaks to how easy they are to install.

If I happen to be down in the area I can assist as well, I helped Blackenedwings do his install.

My opinion is that the stock coils fail fast because of the above average demand on them, i.e., 9k We cruise at double piston engines generally, and often go up to 3 times higher than most piston engines ever do. Stick our packs on a 4-banger, they probably would last 150k or so.
