Not to sound pessimistic, but all Mazda dealerships in MD seem to have the same problems with customer service. But, I did hear that the Mazda dealership in VA had quality service. I know it's a long drive, but if you need some serious work done to your car with good customer service, that dealership is the way to go.

Yup I think I'm gonna be going there just to get the brake lever TSB done. At least they won't play dumb and pretend they don't even know what a TSB is until I pull it out of my pocket

For what it's worth I had a good experience at Russell Mazda (Mazdaspeed location) in Ellicott City for those in that area. I didn't need major work done but they seemed pretty straight up and had a good knowledge of rotary engines. I needed my oil change/tune up, plus I didn't trust my original dealership to make sure the car was in good shape and I had an issue with my right wheel vibrating heavily at speed and making noise. They did a full check up on the car, weren't able to rotate my tires because I need to replace the rear ones so they took the cost off immediately. Then the sales woman was like "we probably aren't the best place to buy the tires from, we are really expensive you should check out Mr. Tire or someplace like that to get the tires." They also found the warped rotor that was probably causing the sound. Overall I was very happy with the experience and they gave the car back washed and gleaming.

Generally, Russell doesn't have a good rep. The clerks are nice, but their techs are spotty at best. If you can believe it, I actually had one screw up an oil change once. Apparently didn't occur to him/her to tigthen the drain bolt. Anyway, the car dumped the entire contents at the traffic light at the top of the hill. Luckily, someone in another car noticed and told me before the engine blew.

The northern VA shops are much better. No comparison. Don't know why it is true, but it has been a fact for years.

In Central Maryland, Ourisman's in Laurel seems to be the best repair shop. They are not a big dealer, but do seem to know their way around the car and will get you out in a timely manner. However, I have noticed they have been low on sales inventory lately. I hope they are not in trouble with the bad economy.

Ourisman Mazda was the first and only place I'll ever go to get my car worked on. They know a lot about the 8 and if there's something you don't know they'll explain it to you so you know exactly what's going on and what they're doing. Plus they know a thing or two about all the local Mazda events that go on.

I'm thinking about selling my Mazdaspeed shiftknob to the locals. Let me know if any of you guys are interested. I will give dibs to whoever PM's me first, willing to pay with cash. I believe that I have a good rep on this forum because I have sold my OEM front bumper, Espelir JGT 500 exhaust, stock intake, AFE shortshifter, and stock exhaust in the past to members.

Given the price of the MS shifter compared to say the axial flow I'm guessing it's not comparable, as in it probably doesn't decrease throw distance. Are there any particular advantages?
Not sure if I want to lose my rotary shifter since I love the way it looks, but if the MS shifter has any advantages over it, then it would probably be a pretty good deal considering the price.

Not sure about the throws, but the Mazdaspeed shiftknob is def. shorter than the stock ****. In terms of the height of the Mazdaspeed shiftknob with the Axial flow and w/o the Axial flow, the height is the same.

yeah its the throw that determines quicker shifts noy the hieght of the ****, its the distance between te ball socket and the gear selector arm that makes the difference.

CruzinRX8, you're better off getting the guys at Best Buy to install it for you. they do those all day everyday, so they're familiar with installing it. also, Best Buy installs it, you can go back to them if you have any troubles with it. it's all about that warranty.

yeah by "feel" I meant the urethane material and shape feels different against your skin...

The default triangular leather **** is pretty weird if you think about it. But now I have a specific way of grabbing it that feels so natural.

yeah I know I made a sad attempt to play off of it with my last sentence, and the last half of my first sentence, lol.

Man, I need a SS. Tell us the differences once the install is done.

Oh forgot to mention, some guy pulled up in a beater Honda trying to race me at a light today. What a joke. We both had our windows down, he was looking over at me. I didn't even so much as turn my eyes in his direction. Then when the light turned red he dropped the clutch... and I proceeded to start and roll as usual. He was already blown away behind me by the time I switched to 2nd. Kept my head straight forward the whole time, didn't even acknowledge his existence, lol. It was all I could to stop myself from leaning out the window and waving, lol. How sad that people in riced out crap mobiles are trying to race this car. I know people don't think it's fast but come on!
