So I took two cars through emissions last Saturday. Nice to see the rollers are completely gone. Both passed. One with OBD-II and one with the idle test.

However, they did do something a little surprising. The tech whipped out one of those mirrors on a stick and used it to inspect the underside of car. Sure enough there was a "Catalytic Converter" box on the printouts that said "Pass". I didn't really want to ask the guy how hard he was actually looking for the converter, or if he could tell the difference between a converter and a resonated midpipe.

Anybody with a midpipe gone through VEIP since they nixed the rollers?

 

Wow you passed with a Resonated Mid pipe? Like... cant you tell the car kind of smells like gas when its idling haha. Also what mid pipe do you have?

 

No. I don't have a midppipe installed. I want to put one in my 8. But if they are actually looking for the catalytic now I'll have to just gut the stock cat.

The other car has a catalytic but was made before OBD-II standard. You can't pass the pre-OBD-II sniff test without one. Especially not with a Mazda Wankel.

 

Ahh gotcha, I see what your talking about now. Well it will have to be risky to test out.

Greg might be due for emissions soon, lets see if he would test this theory and just leave his RB midpipe on. Unless he did his emissions last year then we will see if anyone else wants to give it a try.

 

I'll wind up trying it if I get a Cobb AP. Worst they can do is fail you. Doesn't even cost anything to restest. Go home, slap the cat back on, go back to VEIP and pass, go home, swap it back out. Only reason to use a gutted factory cat is for less backache every two years.

Nice spot Bill, Im pretty sure my RB dual res midpipe looks like a CAT or two. so we'll see what happens when I go, I guess Ill have to clean up the completely black tailpipe tips too, lol,,,

 

Ahhhh crap.. lol my mazsport race pipe def looks like a cat lol and the chip wired into the o2 sensor is oem lol and that cough that they have is from a cold, not my 3" inch catless exhaust lol

i dont see how it matters.. if you pass you pass.. dont matter whats under there lol.. im waiting on a phone call as i type to order my AccessPort.. use it to clear my check engine like and pass emissions until my dyno day, then get it tuned!!

unless they can still get it for tomorrow ill let you know how it went tom..

I refused to buy that game for what they did to the PC community. But oh well, BFBC2 has my vote for best war shooter as of yet for 2009-2010.

Ty, where and by whom are you going to get the AP tuned?

I'm tempted to go the MM route because he knows what he's doing but I don't want the maps I'm paying for to be locked. I've been meaning to stop by the Subie shop down off 152 and US1 and talk about it. They are an AP shop and have a hub dyno.

Oh, and my addiction is BZFlag. Been off it for a while.

 

im getting it from absolute pro-formance in finksburg.. my buddy from work knows the owner and pretty much 99% of everyone that works there.. he gets all his stuff for his civic from them.. and when they moved to their new building they were able to house a dyno..its $175 an hr for dyno time.

 

Haha, I have yet tried ME 2. I just completed Dragon Age not too long ago and still have yet played the expansion. Unfortunately I only play maybe 4 hours a week at most so during that time BFBC2 is the only game I play. You should check it out once your finished ME2.

If I can remember correctly, thats about 100 hour or more campaign right?

Spotted someone in a VR 8 going north on South Capitol St. today around the ballpark, had shined stock rims and the appearance package body kit. Some Asian guy with an epic goatee. Honked and waved but no response. Anyone on here?

yeah the weather is the biggest factor for me, my(RX3) pass side rear door has a leak from a dry rotted rubber gasket, sounds like its gonna rain friday so we'll have to just wait and see....

 

Finally got my COBB today!?!?! . Now its time to get it tuned!! And pass emissions!! LMAO
