THIS ******* SUCKS SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For anyone who cares...

My car was towed away this morning while I sobbed like a baby. The insurance company gave me a ******* PT LOSER to drive in the mean time. I'll find out hopefully tomorrow if it's totalled or not. If it's not totalled, I've come to the difficult decision to trade it in on another one. Mine will never be the same. And I'll have to drive the ugliest ******* car on the damn planet until I get it back.

I went to patient first finally and had x-rays of my neck. My back is what's really bothering me now so I'm going to the doctor again probably Monday. Regardless of whether or not they found anything wrong at the moment, I guess it's good that it's been documented I'm injured.

well see what happens when your car is totaled the insurance company writes you a check. so they infact buy the car from you for the fair market value. so you have a check to either pay off a loan on the totaled car or a check to go buy a new one. thats how it works. atleast they are takeing care of you, i mean most people have to yell and scream to get a rental. so be glad. i do feel you pain i have lost one of my baby's along the way. but let me see.... your looking at around $12,000 + pay off if its totaled. if you want to find out the true value look go to NADAGUIDES.COM then look at your clean retail total value. that is the price most insurance companies pay.

the only way she will be able to take anything out of the car is if she buys it back from the insurace company which would be around $4,000 give or take. other then that she would be alowed to take anything that is not connected to the car out.. ie subs, amp, wires, cd's, but cant take seats head unit, tail lights, head lights, etc... i know this from exprience. got to switch rims out with a set of steals before insurance company took the truck. cause they wernt going to pay for after market rims and tires for the truck so i told them i was going to put the stock rims back on....

Let me ask you a couple questions... Theyve already towed it so i wont be able to get my winter wheels and tires back? Thats bullshit! My stock tires are bald and my blizzaks are in awesome shape. What about my clear corners? I still have my amber ones to replace them so will they let me take them? They have to at least let me get my icelink right? And as for my sub, im sure its smushed so can I argue them to pay for a new one?

The basic rule is:
If the insurance company is going to cover the mod and pay you for it, then you can't get it back. If they refuse to cover it, then you can take it back if you have the stock piece to replace it.

As an example, most people think about the little stuff, but think about personal objects in the car, and the engine. Insurance companies don't want to pay for your sweater, those paper, etc... so you take them. They ARE paying for your engine, so you can't take that.

So submit receipts for mods and such, see what they will cover, and if they refuse on anything, then you have legal grounds to get it off the car. Just make that point to them. And yes this literally applies to everything, including the winter wheels/tires. If they don't want to pay for non-stock rims and tires, tell them that you are putting the stock wheels back on before they take it, and get your blizzaks back

It isn't a 1-way street, they cover it or you take it.

Thank you! I clearly have no idea what I'm doing as I've never been in this situation before. The insurance adjuster at the body shop called me while I was in school today and left a voicemail asking what type of Rx-8 I have. WTF. Does he mean Sport, Touring, GT? He also said they "began disassembling it" (to which my response was puking in my mouth) to assess the damage.

the best thing you can do to get these answers is call your personal agent. ask them about the items which you want to remove and replace with oem. they can give you a better answer then us cause they are infact an insurance agent. and not advisable to tell them its not the car that it is to get more money its called insurace fraud. greg...... shame shame... lol... any how like i said i've been though a totaled truck before so if there is anything i can do to help let me know.

Likely the "disassembling it" means removing the bumpers to determine how extensive the damage is. When that massive tire retread nailed my front, they kept finding more damage as they removed pieces at the shop, and I ended up with several supplemental claims. Mine was never expected to be totaled. Yours very well might be, so they probably want to get an accurate assessment the first time, and that pretty much requires digging in farther without more obvious damage.

As far as "what type", they are probably referring to the trim level. I don't see what year you have, but '06+ has the trims separated in the blue book, 04 doesn't have any trim levels listed, the trims were optional packages, and 05 was Shinka or Base only, trims were optional packages that aren't listed.

So if you have an 04 or 05 above base, you need to make it clear what option package you had.

Ouch Lauren. Sorry to hear about this. No doubt the a-hole was probably yakking on the cellphone. I had an old RX-7 smashed out from under me a few years back and that was no fun. Idiot rear-ended me directly at about 35 MPH. I couldn't open the doors to get out because the car was so shortened...

While it is your baby, remember that it's just a car, just sheet metal, plastic, and rubber. It can be repaired or replaced. (And I'm a guy with a CYM R1 RX-7 that I won't take out if there is dew on the ground!) If you can walk away from a wreck, declare victory! Your RX-8 did it's job and protected you from a flaming moron behind the wheel of a deadly weapon.

I feel a small bit of your pain as my 8 is going into the shop tomorrow to fix it's busted nose. What's worse is that I have only myself to blame for it! And I don't carry collision, so when the shop asked who the insurance company was, I told 'em "my checkbook".

So here's to hoping we've got good body shops who can fix our 8's up to their former glory!

That tail light tint did look bitchin'.

Not that I'm any good, but I do drive my RX-8 on the track so I have some rough idea of where the corners are.

Ooh, and registration is open for the first Autocross of the year at Waldorf!

It's all in how you sell it: You're not "taking it out on the track", you are getting Professional Advanced Driving Instruction! It's the truth!

Better yet, get her out there driving and she'll be hooked...

I hate you.

Two hours from cow/farm/McMansion country. I need to move.

I've done it in just over 90 minutes in the 8. Probably not going to repeat that anytime soon as I've learned the magic number where Bad Things™ happen is 25 MPH over...
