I forgot you were nocturnal Jon. If you do end up doing it during the daytime I appreciate you letting me know. And good luck getting it pieced back together. Once you finish building it, is it going on your car?

I would not recommend this as a regular maintenance item to the daily driver.
If you're car is at 100K miles and you would like to play it safe by replacing the bearings and seals, that would be fine.
If this is a dedicated race car... maybe a little more often.

There are several items that need to be replaced everytime the differential is disassembled.
Also you need specialty tools like a hydraulic press, bearing pullers, bearing race drivers, dial indicator, and more to reassemble properly.
Disassembling is actually very easy... its the reassemble that you want to take your time and do right to ensure everything is lined-up properly.

Screw that. Give me a hot plate and a hammer and I'll put that diff back together. Hahaha

Well, and a pair of gloves so I don't burn my hands when dropping the very hot new bearing on. :p

So Steve, have you finally made a decision whether or not you are going to travel to the DC pro and shake the rust off for the first event of the season with me?

Just have a bunch of people come down and do it all for you and get it done in a day. That seems to have worked for you in the past. :p

Ps: I'll be out of town that weekend.

I couldn’t resist the opportunity yesterday, so I pulled her from hibernation. I appreciate the car so much more after driving the old F-150 for a couple months. I also have a nice route home that goes out by Blossom. There are some fun roads out that way.

Except when global warming is kicking winter's ***. And there is no salt on the roads.

Most recently it has been work on car, get drunk afterwards.

Case in point when I had to rebuild my stupid drivers side rear caliper on the Focus this past Friday. The damn thing froze up on me in that snow storm we had an locked my wheel. Nothing like doing 60mph down the freeway in 3"+ of snow and have a wheel freeze up on you. Even the Blizzaks couldn't keep the rear end from wanting to play tag with the front end.

Luckily though I kept the car pointed in the right direction and got off to the shoulder. A couple kicks and shakes to the wheel (and random curse words) free'd the caliper up enough to limp the bitch home.

I got proper drunk after I fixed that piece of ****.

On a lighter note I did get to see the 8 on Friday while fixing the caliper.

Lol at global warming. Ask the buried Towns in Alaska just because we are having a mild winter so far, doesn't mean it isn't falling elsewhere.

When you put your car away for winter, take it apart. That aids in resisting the temptation to take it out on nice days.

My seats are out and my center console is all taken apart. That's more of a deterant than knowing I only have storage insurance on it right now.

February starts next week. . . just remember to keep putting money aside for those entry fees so you actually come to events this year.

Also, April 26th is the first listed open track day at mid Ohio...

Well, I think I'm going to be buying an 8 here from one of the members. Given up on trying to find a decent one from a dealership somewhere. Going with the safe bet (hopefully) the guy has been very helpful regarding all the questions I've asked him.

well here's the car! let me know what you guys think!

The entry fees weren't the problem. The fact I was 1500 miles from home was lol. Worked almost every weekend to pay Steff's doctor bills. 40 bucks for a day of autox wouldn't have mattered lol. Making 200 bucks a day extra, did

That's a nice looking car, just remember it only has a year or so warranty left.

yeah i know, not too worried about the warranty. it's been taken care of well, that's the main part. I'd be a lot more worried about it if it was beaterized and stuff.

main part now is the waiting game. the only way he's selling the car is if he can get this 03/04 Cobra he's been looking at. So hopefully he does get that Ford (lol) so I can get his 8!

I actually drove by a ford dealer in Canfield Ohio on 224 earlier today. He has a red rx-8 for sale. might want to check it out.

No problem. I'd personally rather buy from a stealership just in case something shows up after a month or so. I bought mine and put 5 years extended warranty on it. With a private seller you never really know. With a dealer you already know they want to bend you over so you know what to expect.
