Learned something this weekend that you all should know on those "spirited drives." Boy Scouts prohibit Caravaning because each car in the caravan becomes liable if there is an accident. In other words, if someone else screws up you are corporately liable for the actions of that person because you were part of the caravan....Hmmmm. Just my parental warning to you all.

If you're going on a spirited drive with friends (non-boy scout related etc) how would the accident be a liability for the other caravan-er's? Or is this just a corporate thing for the boy scouts, not just anyone caravaning? Sorry, just never heard of that sort of thing before...

So... if Myself, Doc, Brian, Jon, John, and Megan are out for a pre-meditated, pre planned route through the Valley and John breaks his wheels lose (cause they're narrower than stock) and slids into a vehicle in the other lane causing an accident. . . that means that "potentially" my insurance could be used, or otherwise notified cause I was in the caravan when there was an accident?

not your insurance but the injured party might sue you as part of the group for the preplanned event. everyone makes the equal wrong decision to partake in the event therefore making everyone liable for damages.

Sorry, was on the road. I'm no lawyer, so I don't know. ALL I know is we were specifically told we could not "follow" each other on the way to our destination. Apparantly there have been lawsuits won spreading the liability. I think this is a particular issue where we someone would or should know that they and others would be speeding or otherwise know that laws are being broken.

Hey, I love it too. Just being parental and warning with what I learned.

Could they go after the organization's assets or personal assets? In a law suit they'll go after the people they know have something worth trying to take. . . that means I'm not worried

Ok TJ # Steve (I still lol at that) don't take this the wrong way, but.....

I don't even know what to say to that.

1) You wouldn't even stick around to see if the person was alright?

2) You could be arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident. The cops would treat it as "street racing".

Ex: Two cars are racing down the freeway. One idiot driver loses control at 90+ mph and whipes out and smashes the **** outof his car. The other idiot driver keeps going. The idiot that kept going could get the whole book thrown at him, even though he was not the cause of the crash.

Same with a spirited drive. If you are driving and say, the car in front of you or the car behind you (hell, any car within the group) goes off the road and wrecks, if you don't stop you could be screwed man. If the police show up and start taking statements and your name is given by one of the others still there, they will throw the book at you. Srsly.

At least in my experiences anyways.

I guess the moral of the story is, go on the drive, but don't drive beyond your limits. Know your route and your meeting points. If the rest of the group is going too fast and you can't handle the vehilce at those speeds, don't try and keep up.

Typically on spirited drives (the organized ones) people will be divided into groups ranging from "I wanna go fast" to "I'm in this for the cruise and the scenery". The groups will go at thier own pace and all groups will meet at a predetermined meeting spot for the next leg of the cruise.

Pick the group that suits your driving style and ability. Just because you want to be inteh "fast" group doesn't necessarily mean that you are capable as a driver. Weigh your options, skills, and consequences of your actions before determining which group you would like to take the cruise in. no one will look down at you if you choose the lower group, even though our egos would say otherwise.

Be safe and get the vehicle back home on all rubber, in the same condition that it left in.

/parental rant lol

^^ all true. They would take one look at your car and age and you'd be on the ground faster than you could say "Tokyo drift"

Brian... how many tickets do you have already? I'm at 3 with 1 speed camera violation. I think you've got me beat though.

. . . . why TJ # Steve?? I should probably be taking offense to this.

TJ # Steve = Jon and I (mostly me) kept calling Tim TJ. Also, his car is a pain in the *** to work on, just like yours. So put one and one together and you get TJ # Steve.

Also, I have 5 speeding tickets. The majority of them are somewhere between 7 and 14 mph over the limit.

One out of state down on the Tail of the Dragon which didn't count for points, but then I got a 4pt ticket up here, so I'm sitting at 10pts on my license.

3 of the 5 tickets it was actually admitted to me that I was pulled over because of my car, not because I was the fastest guy on the road. Let that simmer for a little bit.

And to clarify further....
The "#" came from calling him Steve#2 at first.
So between calling him TJ and Steve#2, we ended up with "TJ # Steve"!
We obviously had too much time to think while taking that road trip to Summit Racing

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to put up my go pro hero camera for sale if anyone local wants it. $70 OBO. It's been hanging around, but I've not used it. Includes extra piece: ride pro - let's you mount it on a bar, like a bike handle. I'll put it up on for sale forum if no one wants it. email me mark@drdomo.com

Hey All - I'm in Bratenahl. I have the Yellow 8 with the huge K40 CB antenna hanging off the back. I've seen a few of you around. How about an 8 get together?

Hey Stig... welcome to the club.
We've talked about having a final meet before winter but never finalized it.
What do you say guys... final meet somewhere in Macedonia since it seems to be central to everyone?
I might be parking the car for the winter in a couple weeks.
Might avoid buying tags for the car now and just wait until Spring.
Birthday is in November and I'm cheap. Plus it'll lower my insurance.

Also Stig, this forum is a wealth of information on the RX8 and you can find a ton just by searching.
This forum can be brutal on noobs who don't search and post questions that get asked once a day.
To play it safe, if you have any questions or problems, feel free to post here on our local thread first.
We are nicer to our local noobs

BTW... my name is Jonathan (people sometimes call me Jon).
You'll see us refer to each other by our real names here.

Looks like my 8 goes up on stands this weekend. We did have a meet last night over at the Mentor Quaker Steak. Nice place...but they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small. When Megan asked for a table for 10 they about died. Our barkeep sucked *** at handling tables outside and took a good 10 minutes to get Miguel a bottled beer. FAIL!!!
