I need help with an excel spreadsheet function. If a cell contains the letters "OH" (for ohio), then cell =another cell.

I've got "=IF(U7282=OH, =J7282,"") But it's not working. Anybody know the correct semantics.

Will that work if there's other data in the cell, like city or zip code. Or only if only state data is present?

 

It will only trigger if the cell contains OH or Ohio...nothing else. Best bet is to go through the data and clean it up. Best way to do that would be to go to Tools >> Filter >> Auto Filter and find the weird data and correct it.

 

I sell on several different venues. Amazon, Ebay, My own site, Google.

Each venue provides data in a different format. Some provide the state as a separate entry, others combine city, state, zip in a single cell. I really can't remove the extraneous data, because I need that record. Unless you can suggest a way to.

 

I used to do this manually, but now have over 11,000 sales entries and growing! Too much to do manually.

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("OH",U7282)),J7282,"")

 

I think that works!!! Now. the only false answer is if the city has "oh" in it somewhere. Any way to also highlight the cell so I can go back and verify data. (I know, I'm pushing it here) I really appreciate it!

rofl...I can get them paid by making the calculation to total them and get the citizen that owes the taxes a figure to write on a check.

 

Well I'm at my dad's now.
Obviously snow was HORRIBLE and I had to get the U-Haul today because they are closed tomorrow, will charge me a $50 fine for canceling, AND my utilities are being shut off Monday.
But with the Akron streets so horrible I drove the U-Haul to my dad's and he is going to bring it down tomorrow morning.
I have no choice but to move tomorrow, so hopefully the weather & roads are better.
Then to make matters worse, my snow blower started back-firing!
I replaced the spark plug because it was bad looking, but that didn't work.
So I took it to my dad's and we took it apart.
It runs better, but I'll need to take it apart again to tweak it more (which I can do in my new garage).

Anyway... if anyone still wants to help tomorrow, give me a call.
If its still bad out, I would rather you guys be safe and stay off the roads.
