Nice James, I hope its running ASAP. Id love to get a ride in it sometime.

I just ordered some KEI Replica eyelids. Only 3 sets left.
I figured I might as well pick them up and get them painted while everything else is too.

I won't be the only one with KEI's anymore? That's the only thing that set my car apart! haha

Got a messsage from the body shop today saying they popped the dent out and it looks really good. So they are hesitant to repaint the quarterpanel, so they can save us a few hundred dollars. I don't like taking people's words for it though I am calling them in the morning since they have been sending all their messages to my parents.

I don't know if that means they already repainted the bumper or what. But if all they did is pop out a dent, and replace a taillight and exhaust shroud, that isn't worth the 1000 dollars they are saying it does.

I talked to the owner of the bodyshop, and he said they could have the car done for me today. All they have to do is wash it and put the wheel locks on. So far they replaced the tail light, the exhaust shroud, and apparently they got all the scuffing and spiderwebbing off that back corner of the car by sanding and buffing it.

They said they could save us around 300 bucks if they don't repaint it. I am having my mom take a look at it and take some pictures for me this morning so I can try to judge it.

Hey mike, I think I recall you having a Cobb AP and I was wondering if you also had the Mazdamaniac tune with it? Pretty much just looking for your review on the Cobb, the tune, and whats good/bad about it?

Yes, I do. The device itself is nice to have for basic diagnostics. It's hard to tell if there was any noticeable power gain from the tune, but there is peace of mind knowing the OMP settings have been maximized, more aggressive fan cooling, and LS2 coil dwelling settings.

If anything, there does seem to be more of a mid range RPM responsiveness. It's been awhile since getting the tune, so a lot of pre- and post- butt dyno comparisons have since become fuzzy.

For a purchasing of the device itself, the cost of the tune @ $99 is practically a shoe-in. I think if one had a more aggressively modified car (i.e. FI), there'd be much more to gain from it; even the $300 purchase price for the standalone service would then be worth it. I don't think I'd have been able to justify the purchase if I didn't at least get the LS2 coils.

Thanks. I appreciate the thoughts and what you like about it. I just bought a Cobb used and am positive about the MM tune now. Maxing the omp settings and tuning for the midpipe would be enough to make it worth it alone.

Its awesome to see so much happening with the 8s around here. I wonder who will be our first FI RX 8 in St Louis. I for one can count mysef out. Engine rebuild is on the list for me before FI.

Yep, it's not going to be me. It would take about 2 minutes for a turbo to blow my engine up.

hmm, Adam I was banking on you being the FI guinea pig. You're the only engine bay that is set up for it now. I still need to relocate battery, upgrade ignition, and stumble across like 8 grand lol!!

Unless I start making a lot of money this summer then FI isnt anywhere in my sights. I would love to make the jump though. Probably just a little old Greddy kit.

Cruise is tomorrow by the way. Meet up at Shop N Save at 11:30. Ill most likely be there a little sooner than that though.

Want to send me a text in the morning Adam? I am leading the Illinois group over from Flying J. I lost all my contacts, so I don't have your number anymore.

In the mean time I'm looking for some aesthetics. I already have wheels lined up now im looking for clear corners and Koni yellows. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a nice used vented cf seibon hood I can paint as well.
I think THmotorsports has knocked their Koni prices back down to $489, which is a nice deal for a new set.

Cole as soon as I get a free day we will do that. I dont want to do it on a day where I have other stuff going on because there may be unexpected problems but I doubt it.

Anyway I got all my stuff in the mail today, the front lip is perfect comes with all the hardware which is awesome and I also got the eyelids in. Plus I resurfaced my headlights and started to cut out my mesh to re install the fog lights. I think im just gonna get the lip and eyelids painted since its gonna save me about $400.

All there is left to do is get it painted and a few more things to install. Hopefully I can get it done before this weekend.

The curse is in your head Cole, lol.

Adam: any updates on the front end? post some pics when it all gets fixed better than new.

My AP just came in today! My only complaint is the obd connector gets in the way if your trying to drive with it in. I still need to run the wire and find some kind of mount for it. Maybe just use some velcro.

Nice AJ.

With the exception of eyelids and a new OEM lip the car is pretty much gonna look the same though. I am just gonna save myself a few hundred dollars and not get the whole bumper painted. I just dont think its worth it really. I want to put the money to more useful things such as sway bars or strut bars.

I wish I could take back the my first statement from my last post. I didn't even get to try out the cobb. I drove the car to get some food after class and the car start choking at idle. Then finally it stalls. I stalled 4 times trying to get it back. I just had new coils, wires and spark plugs installed. I checked the plugs anyway and they looked okay but seemed maybe more damp from fuel than they should be.

Maybe the midpipe is force my afr to run rich and burning out my plugs? Or maybe the engine is dead. I'm not sure. After this all happened I managed to install the stock tune on the cobb temporarily to get some readings. Battery is at 14 volts strong, afr was reading 13.8 for the time I could have it idle. Any ideas? Mike, adam tells me you had a similar problem so would be cool to have your opinion.

My car only stalled the once. Any stored engine codes? Don't go on relying on that Cobb tune; I hear it's rather craptastic. Only other things I can think of outside of ignition components are maybe cleaning the MAF sensor and maybe doing an ECU reset to see how things pan out.

You should be able to monitor AFR, fuel trim, and all that fancy stuff with the Cobb to diagnose. I can't say I'm really any good at it myself, though. MazdaManiac might be able to help you diagnose from your initial set of logs from the base map if anything.

I think it's high time we get together and check some compressions.
