Mounted new snows on the 135 today. Got a set of Goodyear Performance 2 winters with rims from TireRack. Stock rims/tires never were off the car and rusted on good. I had to take the car up to Sumerel since all I could get off was one tire. What ticks me off was the BMW who certified the car measured the brake pads life remaining and gave measurements. How can you do that without taking off the tires? Needless to say, I'm pissed that BMW CPO is almost worthless if they don't even take the time to remove the tires and check the pad wear.

Rethinking that BMW purchase. Not getting a good feeling like when I purchased the 8 used from Kings. Maybe I can talk the wife into keeping the 8. Hah!

Most places measure pads with calipers with the wheels still on, unless the brake caliper doesn't have a cut out in the center. Since they use wheel bolts, the center bore is pretty tight on the hub, so typical aluminum on steel corrosion really gets them stuck on. I wouldn't worry too much about it, personally. Since it's CPO, take it to Sweeney or the BMW store and have them check everything they cover. Won't cost you anything and you can get a feel for your local dealer. Just my .02

You got a good car Steve, it's just dealer jargon. Besides didn't you get that car from Chicago of something? It snows a lot more than here, so yeah that is a possibility...

As far as the certified car thing, I had the similar experience with the Mats and Nav CD missing. According to some people, all cars used and new are supposed to get them from Cad dealers, although mine were missing... hmmm in an immaculate interior to boot. It seems that a Salesperson could have accidently misplaced them into a prior sale that was missing them in the 90 days it was on the lot.

Needless to say the dealer wouldn't budge on my request for both... I then contacted Cad customer service and she called the dealer directly (latest software NAV cd's are $199) and she talked to my Salesperson. It was a no deal but I tried...

I guess we are both in the same "Certified Pre-Owned" boat.

I ended up buying a used cd on ebay from 2008 for $40, so not all bad. Besides, I would rather roll with some new black embroidered mats, and not Cashmere anyways. Light carpeted mats are a j/k as far as I'm concerned, unless you live in SoCal or something LOL.

Well Robyn likes the Caddy. My concern is all the do-dads on the car. My dad was a lifelong Buick guy, he would get a lot of options but after a few years they would start failing (he would usually just fix a run-around!). I'd hate to have a pretty luxury car that nickel and dimed me to death. I may see if I can check yours out when I get home James.

Honestly Chief if you don't like all the do-dads, you might want to look at the G8, more conventional in that sense, and similar platforms. The LS engine with that suspension would be nicer than a CTS or STS as well for performance with less gadgetry. Back when they were still on the lots over in Burlington, I sat in a G8, they are REALLY nice. Depends on how deep the pockets are... V8 STS's aren't all that hard to find and are cheaper, but they mostly don't have the good steering, suspension and rear gears with LSD, car behaves differently.

After being spoiled by the horsepower of the cars we have now (ok, except for the 8!) I don't think I'd be happy with one of the lesser STS. I'm also leery of buying any Pontiac for the parts situation (I know GM has to carry them for a certain period of time, but that doesn't mean they have to be easy to get). For now all I can do is look anyway, I'll see how things sit when I get home. Maybe Mazda will have finally announced the new 6 coupe!

LOL. It really doesn't exist. I just took a few pics of someone else's car.

If the weekends free up and it's not freezing on a Saturday morning I'll get it to Fuel.

No worries Chief. In the meantime, I'll keep a look out for local 1SG's. What's your preference, 2WD or STS4?

Chief, you may be in luck... I am having the dealer look into the options on this... It's either a 1SG or 1SF from the pics. I'll pm you if I get more details on it.

James, I appreciate your efforts on my behalf. However, I had a long discussion with Robyn last night about our car situation and it looks like we are keeping what we have. It appears I have created a monster, as she loves her 8 as much as I love any of my cars. Anyone wanting to learn how to change a clutch on a Speed6 just let me know!

Have fun. I know when Kings did mine it took about twice as long as the book said and I believe you have to drop the engine cradle and all that AWD stuff gets in the way. Add in an alignment to boot.

Too many hard launches cause your clutch to fail?

Not so much. The clutch is still ok, it has 80,000 miles on it with two different drivers, and Robyn doesn't rev match like I do. I will admit it wasn't helped when I was showing her whose car was faster (yes, I'm sometimes a child) shortly before leaving for work, and I maybe slipped it just a little too long. I could smell clutch for two days. I just figure it's something I better address when I'm home so it doesn't fail while I'm gone and stick her with the worry of getting it fixed.

Agreed. The concept had sharper lines and more shape. This seems like just another sedan.

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed with it because to me the concept looked great... not sure about all these cars lately with the trapezoidal styling cues. Looks like a cross between the New Lexus IS and a Corolla. Hopefully the hatch and STI will look better.

GoodWin strikes again! This time they used a picture of my car with the new wheels (the first one I shot in the garage, so it isn't a really good one). Funny thing is though, it's on the page for the solid gold Flatouts, not the ones I have. So not only did they not get permission to use the picture, they are guilty of false advertising. It seems they really have no clue.

Been doing some research on my MS, turns out I don't need the MAF and should not have put it on. I'm wondering if that has had anything to do with my getting excess fuel under boost. First thing home I'm pulling it and reloading my base map to see what happens.

And now I have a check engine light on. It was flashing a couple times on the way back to Columbus. And now I need to get to Cincy. Fantastic... I don't have much choice except to drive it and cross my fingers :/

So that means I had at least one misfire... and now the code reads as an ignition failure in "cylinder" 1. Still, no loss of power, drives and feels normal. Haven't seen my cat glow yet, but I haven't been driving it hard.

I've ordered the BHR ignition kit and new plugs... but I'm not sure they'll get there over the weekend... and I need to be back in Columbus to work on Monday. Not a situation I enjoy being in.

Damn piston engines....

Just regap the points and adjust the dwell time on the distributor.

(Haven't said that since 1976...)
