I think it's the yellow...yea, that has to be the reason. Silver have accidents and yellow stay in the shop forever....for no reason. Won't it be fun if I take mine in tomorrow, which I am, and I get mine back before you stinger... Now we know that won't happen....right?

Didn't you drop it off on the 14th? I hate to see how long they take if someone needs a new engine. Well gives you more time to beat the loaner car down... LOL... I can't wait to hear about what they say... I am kind of looking forward to getting a new engine.. I would be no worse off in terms of my warranty. However, the engine does grow stronger after mileage. I think it was Car and Driver or Road and Track that tested the RX-8 a year or so later with 60000 miles on it and gained about a second on the 1/4 mile and about half second on the 0 to 60.. I believe the temperature, elevation and humidity was very close to the first test... But don't quote me...

You are close Ocho! I did take it on the 15th. I called them this morning and they said that they DO NOT have any MAZDA mechanics that are on duty on Saturdays. The Mechanic was going to continue on my car TODAY. So in other words it has sat there and was not touched all day Saturday! WTF!!! I called at 3 this afternoon and they said that he was almost done, but that he would need it tomorrow to complete the rest of the work. So my best advice to any of you when making appointments is to make them for the begining of the week like KEWL's. That way your car is not held hostage over the weekend and not even touched.

And so it begins!!!!!!!

I read (somewhere on the forum) that part of the recall required the Mazda Techs to test the cooling system under load for 12, that's right 12 hours. This person was saying that this test is why they keep the 8's over night. They run the car at a certain rpm for 12 hours to test the system. I can't believe that re-flashing the computer and changing some plugs would take more than a day unless a new engine is required.

I can't validate that post but I am curious if it's true. I have been looking for the recall feedback thread without any luck for the past couple of weeks. Do any of you all know where it went.

Anyways, Stinger, I hope you get your 8 back soon and it's even better than before. Best of luck to you to, Kewl. Who's next? Is it you NMOcho?

Stinger to mazda tech returning the car: "NO! I did not bring you a ford pinto, where is my 8!?".

Mazda tech: "sorry sir, let me check in the lost and found bin. I will call you tomorrow if I find anything."

I don't think you could run the engine for 12 hours. It would run out of gas.

There is nothing in the recall technical procedure documents that even speaks of the cooling system...certainly nothing about running the engine for 12 hours for any reason.

I take mine in on Thursday 10/12/06 so I think I'm up next... I don't mind if I get a rental for the weekend. I really wish Mazda would set the cooling fans to turn on earlier. On a side note I have a funny story. So this guy in a BMW, I think a 325i, all “riced” out makes a point of racing 3 blocks to catch me for the E bound freeway on ramp off of Louisiana... So he gives me the lets run them look (showing off with his girlfriend in the car) while we were waiting for the light. So I figured why not... he cuts behind me in middle of intersection, so I gun it up the on ramp and quickly pulled away from him. He gave up and took the Eubank off ramp, at which time I was doing about 118mph. The great thing is my lovely lady enjoyed the race as well… With minimal scratches to the exterior door paint… LOL.. I have had more challenging races from Honda civics… But none the less fun…

Let us know if your car gets a full tank and a wash beside the loaner. Make sure you take your car almost empty

Well I got it back this morning. They called me about 9am and said it was ready.

What they DID NOT DO

1) Nope no new engine
2) Did Not wash it
3) Did Not clean the inside
4) Did Not fill the gas tank

Now as for what they did do

1) Replaced both tail lights
2) Replaced the passenger Sun Visor
3) Installed the New Flash Update
4) Replaced the Starter
5) Replaced the Battery
6) Replaced the Spark Plugs
7) Did the 4206F Emission Recall
8) Drove the "8" for a total of 8 miles

So I hope that this answers some of your questions. The best thing I can say from this is I was able to get rid of that VW-JUNKA & get the 8 back. I am not to happy with the turn around time that the dealership had. I hope that the rest of you fare better than I did.

Can't say yet that I see much difference with the new flash...I think I will need another couple of days driving it to see if I can tell anything. Nothing jumped out at me to be sure. I will certainly watch the oil levels more closely until I know for sure how the new flash impacts oil use.

I'll use the scanguage next time I drive the 8 - not tomorrow it is forecast to rain - to see if there is any mileage impacts. I have enough data now I think to be able to tell that rather quickly. I won't have to wait until the next fill-up.

I might hit them up on the starter business someday, for now it is starting just fine....always has.

Glad to hear you got yours back today stinger....about time, but then you had lots more done to the car then the rest of us...so far.

No comment was made to me about he intake or throttle body mods.

Glad to hear you got it back and everything checks out so far KEWL! I have not noticed any added prfomance as of yet with the new flash. As for the oil comsumption I too plan on monitoring rather closely for a while as well.

Was wondering if I could get a tinting recomindation. Looking for a darker then standard tinting job, and was wondering about how much it costs.

Also, If anyone knows a good reference for custom painting let me know.

A touch of glass. I have taken like 4 cars there this year. (yes have been through that many so far this year). They have all come out perfect and with lifetime warranty. They charged me 125 for the 8.

Best Tinting has always done a great job for me. They are on Menaul just south of Wyoming on the north side tucked behind a glass shop they average about 150 or so. But I have illegal tint on my car and had to go to a different shop for the 8. My tint is 15% mirror all windows.

Kewl ... Good to hear no issues with the intake. I am really wanting all new plugs, starter and battery. Less things I have to buy down the road.

Mention to them that you have been having a hard time strating your 8 and that will get you the Starter, Plugs & Battery. Which was no fib on my part because it had become increasinly hard to start the 8 even if it was warmed up.

I just called University Mazda to set up a time to get my car repaired. Its sucking in air (i guess) where its not supposed to, because its making a loud un-rotory, highpitched noise. Also, the drivers handle needs to be tightened. I was told there is no loaner car, unless the tech says so, but the tech cant look at it at the scheduled time (only to drop it off), which means I need to be picked up, which means a loaner car is uselss anyway. Is this the way it is supposed to work? its not what I understood when I purchased the car.

You did not recognize me this afternoon did you. I pulled up along side of you as you were leaving the Base in the work truck, honked and even waved at you.

The way I understand it. You drop off your car to have the work done on the schedualed date. If the work is not done by the close of buissnes that day which I am not sure of Uinversity Mazda's cut off time, then they are supossed to then issue you a loaner vehicle.
