I maintain a solo PC at home (one of many I've built) because I'm a real-world person and you sometimes have to go with the mainstream demographic just for ease of compatibility. But if I had my druthers I'd be Mac-only. It's simply a much more elegant and pleasing environment. Thanks to its Unix base it really is the better platform for the scientific community, but I would agree that it's only strong in media thanks to its skillful marketing in that sphere (as prior education). But then [liberal] media types are all emotion and no common sense iDumb anyway.

I still miss my Apple //c.

btw: will be upgrading to Windoze7 this coming weekend, so again Jon good to hear of the AP compatibility.

Excuse me while I have my own 2 cents.

There is no "best" platform or OS.
Depending on what you are doing and what you favor the most ultimately determines the best platform for YOU or whatever task is at hand.

longpath

You could VM an XP machine or dual boot. Besides, access to a PC should be very easy today.

I don't like M$ either but there is always a thing or two I need a Windows machine for.

My issue occurred when I upgraded my laptop to Win7 RC.
I've since wiped that hard drive and installed a fresh version of Win7 32-bit and my AP installed fine without any complications.
I just installed Win7 64-bit on my desktop (fresh install) so I'll let you know how my AP installs with that.

I'm hoping to do a 32-bit [Business] Pro "upgrade" over my current Vista Business SP3 rather than a clean install.

Historically I've done clean but lazy these days .... we shall see.

I'm about to do a fresh install of Win 7 64-bit on my desktop and then doing a fresh install of Vista Ultimate on my laptop (which currently runs Windows XP MC)

Laptop is the only one ever used for AP so hopefully all goes smoothly.

Huey: stop being lazy.

LOL I hear ya.

I can build a high quality PC in about 45 mins, but it takes me 8 hours to wipe a drive and install a myriad of applications and then fine tune same. I've done it too many times and quite frankly this whole Win7 "upgrade" thing ticks me off. I should never have gone to Vista in the first place.

My current desktop is 4 years old now but I've only kept it this long since it was so uber quality when I built it and I figure I have to amortize awhile longer. That and again I've done too many clean installs at this point.

My Gigabyte motherboard came with an image utility that can be run during boot.
I just install a fresh version of Windows, update the drivers, install programs that I always use (and AVG), then create a back-up image.
This way if I need a fresh version of Windows installed (which I tend to do every 6 months), I can just run the image and a clean version is installed in minutes instead of HOURS installing the OS and software.

I was burned by Norton once upon a time (I know, I should get over it already).

Thanks Gents, really, but I'll first call M$'s bluff and try a direct upgrade:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...a-to-windows-7

If we believe M$ the days of having to do clean OS installs every six months are behind us (yeah, I know, like I believe M$ - "trust me"). Worst case I have a file backup and can then do a clean install.

What's interesting about this OS thread twist is that many, myself included, withstand the trials and tribulations of M$ simply because we have to. Sad.

ok, now back to Jeff's Calibrations discussion as I've already straid too far for too long.

My car tends to stall when I rev it up high and let the drop down to idle while cruising.

Also there is a big difference between on and off throttle. Its either pulling a little or not at all which makes it very difficult to control the car in the corners. How can I fix these problems?

I am FI and on 4.0.1 from MM.
My BOV isnt recirculated. If i recirc it will this keep it from stalling?

thanks

Yes, your car stalls because your BOV isnt recirculated. If you dont want to use a recirc'd bov, go with the HKS or Synapse. They are a little more MAF friendly.

Are you talking about cornering as in racing, or just taking a turn in the intersection? That tune is not made to be continuously run at wot. I was terrified to even do the logging cause the car was running so bad. Still is, hope my revision is coming soon, over a month.

Ok ill have to recirc. My car is running good. It has an AFR of about 11.5 at WOT and pulls hard. Im not getting on it alot but from what i have it runs real good.

edit: Ive also been waiting like 3 months now for the tunes so there is no way I can wait that long to not drive the car hard. I think it would have been cheaper and a lot easier to just take the car to a shop and have them tune it. I wouldn't need to buy an accessport for 700 bucks and wouldent ahve to wait all this time.

Yup, Im totally with ya man. But the problem with the Cobb is no one is that familiar with it and how it translates info between how the tables are setup versus how it logs data. I tried to get a dyno tune last week and I thought the guy blew my engine. If youve never heard knock in a rotary engine, its scary ****!! I thought his dyno was falling apart. He has something messed up with my ignition because the car knocks at an idle and low load. I thought the guy that tuned it was knowledgable because his shop was the first ones to turbo an RX8. I put Jeffs tune back on and all the knocking stopped. Im hoping when I go home (back to AZ) in March, I can get some of his time do a final touch up, specially since then Ill have my boost controller in and he can up the boost.

So Ive been looking over posts on this thread for quite a while now, I KNOW somewhere in this thread there is some info on downloading the new AP manager/updated to support MM maps for mac users. Unfortunately, Ive found nothing but a little bit of bickering and some suggestions about dual booting my mac etc. Long story short, Im tired of sifting through posts, does anyone out there know how to easily use the AP software MM offers with a mac, W/O partitioning my hard drive or finding a PC to use?

There was a beta version of the AP Manager for the Mac that ceased development around a year ago. When I tried it I was able to get it to work for adding & deleting maps from my AP, but it doesn't support logs or anything more. The guy that was working on it isn't with Cobb anymore, and I haven't heard anything more of it. I believe most Mac users that are using the AP either have a separate PC or run a emulator application for running Windows on their Mac like Vmware or Parallels.
