Yeah that's what I've been reading/figured. That's too bad, I bet there's a lot of people out there who want the AP and the software from MM but can't cause they refuse to do the partition. Oh well looks like I'll be finding a friend at school with a PC, no big deal.

You can get/make an adequate PC for the task for free if you look around on Craig's list or have PC friends.

It is a very low requirement install. I think it'll work on a Win98 box with no speed or memory and very low screen resolution.
You do need USB, though.

edit: Ive also been waiting like 3 months now for the tunes so there is no way I can wait that long to not drive the car hard. I think it would have been cheaper and a lot easier to just take the car to a shop and have them tune it. I wouldn't need to buy an accessport for 700 bucks and wouldent ahve to wait all this time.
Certainly not cheaper. You're going to have to buy some kind of hardware in order to tune an RX8 whether it's an accessPORT, int-x, emanage or some kind of stand alone.

One of the local shops I deal with frequently would require dyno tuning. The cost of a stand alone plus tuning and dyno time would easily be more than $2,000.

The accessPORT remains the most robust and user friendly tuning device for the RX8.

Most shops charge $450 - $600 for a single dyno tune and have no clue how to use the AccessPORT software (though, some will claim they can and then experiment on your car - just ask around here).

It would have been a lot quicker if you had read the directions before you sent in your incorrect/incomplete submissions the first 3 or 4 times.

Yep, like I said a couple posts above, I just fell victim to someone saying they can tune the car, and the tune sucks. I only got 210whp and 184wtq on a bnr turbo. My car knocks at an idle and low loads, and is not smooth going into higher rpms. Hoping when I come home in March you can do a live touch up for me on your tune with a boost controller and higher boost, Ill of course pay whatever your service cost.

wow.
speechless

210 whp on BNR. .

alright, I've picked myself up off the floor.
Wow Phantom, sorry to hear about the horrible results from a local tuner shop, that tune sounds pretty terrible.

I think what people need to realize is while there are TONS of tuners out there who are VERY good at what they do, the RX-8 is a different beast and the AP isn't something that one can learn in an hour while you've got a customer's car strapped down on the dyno.

Ya, pretty awesome huh!!! $7000 later and I gained a whole 30ish hp over stock!! Thats like an exhaust system on a Cobra. I thought they knew what they were doing because they are known around here as having one of the first turbo kits for the RX8. I dont wanna name names but use my location and companies that have put out a kit and you figured it out! They use a stand alone to tune their kit but he assured me there was no problem working with the Cobb. Im hoping Jeff is close to sending out my latest revision and that or one more should hold me till I get out to AZ where he can fine tune it.

210 HP?
Holy crap! We get that out of NA cars!
I think we had some of the LA turbo cars that had boost problems making over 240 on 2 PSI or something (with no knocks or a bad idle).
Of course, they also made more than 200 pound feet of torque.

I guess your right but I did send it in twice and didn't get a received message. Anyway...

Just out of curiosity, how much time/effort do you put in/does it take to calibrate someones tune?

You were sent multiple confirmations. You had problems at your end, remember?

From the time I open the attachment to the time I send out the confirmation is about 1/2 hour per iteration.
I get about 20 submissions a week.

Since this isn't my "job", you can get an idea how this get to be problematic.

The plate will be clear before Thanksgiving, so if you haven't received a notification, look in your folder and see what is there.
