New MazdaManiac BASE Calibrations
#926
Hey MM, I sent you a pm but you didnt answer. I sent you my last logs and when I was doing the WOT log in 2nd gear once I reached around 6k rpms I went too lean, meaning >12.5, so I didnt continue with the log. Is that ok or do you need me to redo that log with anything else?
Thanks!
Thanks!

So, I fixed everything that I could think would cause me a problem in the long run, got a foot long 3.5 Inch pipe and put the MAF in the middle, installed the greddy blocking plate. and installed the nozzle for my meth kit. which is capped at the moment until my car is properly calibrated. Then I can run my mix.. it's running so rich now. compared to how it was running the first time I tried you 4.0 calibration. i'm seeing like 10's right before it supposed to go into boost. when i used to see 12's. and my fuel trims are like -18 at idle. It's backfiring a bit as well. I have a 2.5" pipe that runs to where the intercooler is to get the coldest air (used to be in the engine compartment. I saw some pretty hot intake temps that worried me). and that couples into a 3.5" foot long pipe where the maf is. I guess it's better to run rich than lean. I'm just hoping there is no boost leak anywhere.. I don't believe there is since it was running fine before the plate and intake install. I sent in my logs Jeff, tell me if you see anything out of the ordinary.

also when you went to install the blocking plate, you may have disconnected the jet air hose...it runs underneath the UIM..when I installed my plate I think I pulled it on accident...I ended up removing my blocking plate because of the turbo upgrade and put a hose clamp on both ends of the jet air hose.

Okay, so I received my AP and have gotten started with the first steps! I'll be data logging tonight, but I have an autocross this weekend and I'm wondering if the Stage 1 option is a good map to run this weekend since it will provide me with a performance gain over stock while I am still in the early stages of Jeff's tune? I assume that the Stage 1 bundled with Jeff's base map is the same map as the stage 1 from Cobb for an '08 completely stock car, right? BTW, I'm running STX and not B Stock so no need to tell me it's not legal.

the base map is about 90% the same as what Mazda gives you so I would think that as long as your fuel trims and AFR's are within acceptable range you'll be okay.

Yeah, I was really just wondering if that Stage 1 I see on my AP is the same as the Cobb map for my setup - in other words, if I can gain hp like advertised by Cobb then I'd rather use that at the next autox while I'm waiting on the performance calibrations from Jeff.

If you got the map from Mazdamaniac, it is not the same as what Cobb gives you

I downloaded the map for my application from the MM download link in the instructions, and then installed it to the AP through the AP Manager. Through the software the only map I see is the MM map, but upon installing the map to the ECU I had a Stage 1, MM #something or other, Economy, and Valet option on the AP. I installed the MM map and will data log tonight after 2 engine cooling cycles. I'm just wondering what the other maps are for as they are the same options that Cobb lists on their site - am I to never switch to the economy mode for instance if I want to save gas? I know I can run the MM base map, or uninstall and run the factory map for the race this weekend - I was just wondering if that Stage 1 map on the AP now (or the one you can download from Cobb) is a viable option for Sunday to make some extra hp until Jeff gets me setup?

I wouldn't drive the COBB maps if you got a stock car to be honest. Mine was crazy lean with those. MM's maps have always been the preferred one for me, looking at AFRs.

You would be better off using either the MM base calibration or flashing back to stock for your time on the track depending on the air/fuel ratios you are seeing.
The basemap is used for data logging purposed only but as long as it's safe to drive on you can use it.

by the way Jeff, I dont know if you have looked at my tuning but I am noticing when I am mildly accelerating, meaning in not into boost completely I may be in 0 to -2 or -3 vac I am going rich and the car kinda sputters a bit if I keep it there. As long as I go into boost the car feels fine, its just if I keep it in that area.

The Stage 1 map is a map provided by COBB but many RX8 owners have had mixed results with that map. Also, the COBB Stage 1 map doesn't contain any of the other adjustments the MazdaManiac base maps do which include increased OMP output, fan adjustments, and removal of check engine lights.
You would be better off using either the MM base calibration or flashing back to stock for your time on the track depending on the air/fuel ratios you are seeing.

Don't do it! You are right on the verge of having an amazing setup. Before I got my latest tune from MM I was feeling really frustrated with my car, it was driving so much worse than stock despite all of the effort I had put into it. I was seriously considering just giving up my whole upgrade path. I got the upgraded map and the car has been driving amazingly well. The throttle response is lightning quick and if I didn't gain 15 hp I'll eat my hat. It just reaffirmed to me how awesome the car is and how important tuning is. Wait it out, get the proper tune and then post on here about how awesome it is so I can be jealous of your boost.
