It can only be used on one car at a time. He will need to uninstall it before you can install it and use it.

Is there a spot where people have posted logs to view? I would like to compare my logs to someone else running a Cobb tune. If anyone care too, can you please email me your log(s) to:

ninekrpmrx8@yahoo.com

Thanks

Technically it shouldn't depend on the state. Smog refers to how they check emission compliance on older vehicles.

If you are talking about a full scale inspection, then yes, there is a possibility you will fail because they will visually see there is no emissions equipment.

Apart from that you will NOT fail in any state when running an AP map that has the CEL masked. That's to say the "machine" that hooks up to the OBD2 port will not fail you.

I have passed inspection two times on my car. I don't use a map made by MM (or Cobb) either. But I've gotten lucky the inspection place was lazy and didn't bother to get my car on the lift to check everything else

btw i'm in NYC

Let's start up a log thread in this section called "Cobb Datalogs"
I have some spreadsheets I'll post up when I get to work.

Outside of Cobb folks aren't going to give you a map. The benefit of the AP is to get your car tuned professionally. Mazda Maniac offers a tuning services for $250 or you can find a tuning shop near you that knows how to tune with the AP.

Downloading someone elses tune is a bad idea. Including the Cobb tunes.

I am running the Cobb stage 1 and my logs look fine and the car runs great. If you have any particular data that supports your statement then post it but that is a pretty bold statement to make without some data to back it up.

All I ever heard is how crappy the stage 1 Cobb tune is and how it will cause lean conditions. I installed it and I am actually running on the richer side of things and the car is running great. I'm not diagreeing that that a custom tune is the best bet but to say using another tune is a bad idea across the board is just not true IMO.

Hardly a bold statement. There are plenty of reports of the cobb tune running in the 14's and 15's at WOT. Please post up the datalog you have of your results at WOT with the Cobb tune.

The point being is any out of the box tune is going to be a guess and not the optimum tune for your car. So why bother spending the time and money on the AP without getting a proper tune as well. That's where the benefit is. Otherwise it's an expensive datalogger.

Then wait until you get your supercharger. Pulling someone else's tune is NOT THE RIGHT ANSWER.

cobb has never made a base tune for an auto rx8.

the MM tune is worth it even without a SC. high OMP rate, clean up your torque and HP plot, fans come on sooner, etc. You already paid the money for the device, might as well go in for a bit more to actually have it do something for you.

Laythor is correct, Cobb never made a base tune for the a/t. To my knowledge Jeff (MM) developed the a/t tune.

I've experienced serious lean issues with the stage 1 map and had all the modifications that were listed.

It might not be across the board but unless you understand the risks and know what to expect are you willing to risk your motor to do so? Either way, off the shelf tunes still are not as good as custom so while it's free you get what you pay for.

The stage 1 also doesn't alter CEL's, fan speeds, OMP injection, idle or RPM limit etc etc etc.
