I saw Jeff yesterday. He told me that Cobb has been upgrading their software. Every time they do this he has to go in and update his library of maps. All 1200+ of them. This has been time consuming for him I know.

well frick!

can't he just update the map I sent him though? It would be nice to drive my car without the potential of it blowing up.

That lazy bastard! 1200 is a number smaller than a million, therefor inconsequential.

Is he doing those updates by hand? I've not seen what the files look like but it shouldn't be difficult to write a C or Java application to spin through the files to modify values.

hopefully in a year or two performance shops will be a bit more saturated with accessport tuners willing to tune the rx8.

That is assuming the formats (both old and new) of the Access Port files are completely open and unencrypted, so one can read the contents of one of them, and translate the changes to the other.

I don't know the format of their files, nor even looked at them, but I'd take a stab in the dark that they are a "secret".

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hehe, at least you have a garage. My turbo kit including intercooler, manifold, gauges etc are all piled in boxes in my living room. Granted I'm not just waiting on tunes at this point because I just decided to get the BHR ignition upgrade before I install the turbo. *shrug*

I have a question concerning knock. On the AP even though I am boosted right now, even when I was N/A the AP wasnt picking up knock under live data. Today I datalogged a little bit, and for some odd reason it doesnt pick up knock. I know pretty much every car has knock. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on with my AP/car?

Even more so in a boosted application. If you are depending on the factory knock sensor to save you from blowing your motor I would suggest finding another method to tune your RX8. You'll blow your motor under boost way before the PCM will detect knock.

I've already had instances where the motor has had detonation and the PCM didn't see it, other times when there was no detonation and the PCM said there was. It cries wolf too many times to be dependable.

Now, from what I understand the 09 has had some changes to the knock sensor to make it more accurate...

True enough. The file extension for the distribution is .PTM which _may_ be a Microsoft Map format. It is binary though I don't know if it's encrypted as I've not dug into the matter.

Something is exposed somewhere however or it would not be editable at all.

Thanks for the information guys, answers my question exactly. Now I have another problem maybe others boosted using the AP can help me. I just recently installed a greddy turbo kit with the Greddy Ultimate base map, Greddy intake, stock injectors, etc. Anyways at idle I get 14.7 AFRs at idle even when its cold on start up. So while cruising around i am at a constant 14.7/14.8 AFRs. But when I go into boost it spikes to 20.3 AFRs. I tried unplugging the Greddy Ultimate and then the AP still shows the same AFRs. Also, when I slowly accelerate (not in boost) and I get up to about 5k the car will start "bucking". My tail pipes are dark black, I am going through gas like crazy. Not to mention the car occasionally misfire/and will the car will die when I go into neutral while coming to a stop. Anyone out there that can point me in the right direction. Thanks...

AFRs RPMs

14.73 5918

14.73 5770

14.73 5942

14.73 6371

15.06 6584

17.17 6858

19.69 7074

20.26 7116

20.26 6882

20.26 6405

17.67 6416

15.59 6352

14.73 6321

14.74 6092

14.73 5823

14.73 5502

14.73 5251

Do you think I should unistall the AP even though I am just using it to read the AFRs. Maybe this is causing the car to act funny?

well your rpms are dropping during your 20.3 AFRs so it looks like your off throttle.

the AP is pegged at 20.3. it is suppose to read that when you are off throttle.

So are you saying that this is normal. Shouldn't my AFRs still go the opposite way? Why are they going up when they should be going down lower? Remember its boosted now.

Are you using an FI calibration on your AccessPORT?

No I am still waiting for the FI calibration for the AP. I am using a N/A one. Is this the cause of my effect? I know that you are busy but should I unistall the AP for the time being until I can get a FI base map from you?

Yikes, J Cab, that's a really bad move. Your ecu doesn't even know what boost is unless you're using a specific FI map. If you were still getting 20:1 with the EM Ultimate, it wasn't doing its job, but by unplugging it and just using the AP with an NA map, you may as well be using nothing at all.

Everyone seems to foget his AFR's are also reading 14.7 on start up (think - cold motor ; open loop air pump on) and they never move... Pretty damn sure something is wrong with the sensor / pcm in relation tot he sensor.

And he was getting fuel cut in Vacuum at higher RPMS.

Thanks Kane. Well I am going to unistall the AP all together until I can get a FI base map. In the mean time I will use the Ultimate and see if I still get fuel cut...
