Just track your displayed AFR (shown as "equivalence ratio on the AP) and write it down."

so...that's what I did today and am waiting for a response. And yes I used to proper format in the email, in fact I replied to it, like it says so I wouldn't miss anything.
Thats what I did, I had my wife write down the values as I drove and put it into Excell for a graph. Didn't take very long and wasn't hard. *shrug*

Thanks again for the tunes, Jeff. Awesome service you're providing us... and I could care less whether the a$$h@ts out there think that makes me a fanboi.

Wow, I am honestly shocked at the comments I have been seeing in this thread:

This is about the time the little fanboys come in e-hump their master...
Oh I guess that's my cue!

You're better off with someone else, why waste the time with Jeff, he clearly doesn't give a ****.
What an unbelievable pile of crap this post was. Well sir, the COBB accesstuner race software is now avaliable for your use. If you're concerned about getting your tunes done quickly I'd educate yourself on tuning and start doing it yourself.

The service provided by MazdaManiac is at NO cost to you or anyone else while a regular shop charges $250+ an hour for professional tuning services.

It is a bit frustrating to have to wait but he is a good tuner and I preferr to have a good tuner do this than try and do it myself and blow up my motor.
Alien my thoughts exactly! Rushing the process or attempting to tune my car myself isn't worth risking my motor. Would you rather wait a while for a good tune or spend $3,000 on a rebuild? I think the choice is easy.

charge away i dont care. after seeing the kind of person that you are i would rather just go to a dyno to get my car tuned.
And luis you are who exactly?

I know there's got to be at least one shop in Chicago that is Cobb certified to tune your car or could use the accesstuner software. Nobody is stopping you from doing that.

if you guys want to start new threads, "D.I.Y. Datalog / Graph your AP with Scanalyser" with detailed instructions that would rock.
Excellent suggestion. If anyone has any questions about doing data logging with the MSD Dashhawk I would be happy to help via PM.

I can live with that, some of you have ridicilous demands, I assume most of you didn't pay anything extra for the calibrations. And looking at posts here it's clear that many people are reading his instructions and still not doing what it says (as in not attaching the map, or not attaching a graphical datalog).
Nexib, thanks for your comment. I agree that people here seem to have unrealistic expectations that they will have a personal tuner on call 24 hours a day for nothing. I have personally seen people send in calibrations and then email an hour later demanding to know why Jeff has not sent out changes.

It kinda blows my mind how you guys are making such a big deal with the data logs. At the moment, I do not have the ability to do datalogs.....
The purpose of datalogging is to show HARD data as to the performance of the vehicle for various values. Sure, you can scratch down the approx. AFR, load and RPM.

As Jeff pointed out, he can make adjustments much faster with hard data instead of a just a few values. It also means your calibration adjustments will take less trials to get it right.

If it takes 3 weeks or so to get calibrations I would assume you'd want to go through as few changes as possible.

If need be I would happily answer any questions via PM about the accessport as I've worked with Jeff enough to know the basics. While I can't make calibrations every little bit counts.

you know in life you get what you pay for..

this is the odd part..

if you can follow the guidelines.

and be a bit patient. you get so much more than you paid for..

and really, a HUGE LOT MORE THAN YOU PAID FOR!

or you could buy it from anyone and do it yourself!!!!

Considering MM is offering a free service, people sure are bitchy. I cant blame him when he gets mad at people... It's not like this is his job, or like he needs to do this for money. I'm sure he could just as easily stop selling these and not lose much (maybe nothing).

I, for one, understand his work load and what to expect. More people should be thanking him instead of complaining that they want their free stuff faster.

see this is exctly the problem there is more bitching and fan boying in this thread than you can shake a stick at. there is also 4299 post which is half the reason ppl keep asking the same questions over and over. Then when they ask the same questions someone else asked you get blessed out by someone who knows the answer and SUPRISE you still never got the answer asked for. there needs to be a locked sticky post created with facts and answers. there is no telling how many questions I have asked that have never been answered but i'll bet there are some smart *** comments. honestly who the hell is going to read through 4000 post of bitching??

I can't speak for everyone, but standing up to this pointless complaining is far from "fan boying" in MazdaManiac's favor. I simply don't stand for my friends being torn down when they work for this community every day.

As for people asking the same questions, if people simply took five minutes to check out the very first post in this thread 90% of their questions will be answered. There seems to be a learning curve with this product...I don't understand how but it seems to exist.

There's a manual with the accessport, there's the information posted here and there's even a VIDEO on how to setup the accessport and taking initial information. It doesn't get much easier than that.

There is! It's the first post in this thread as it's been pointed out 100 times already.

Install accessport, find calibration which gives you +/- 5% STFT and LTFT...email that calibration along with WOT data for 2md - 4th gear complete with AFR, Calculated load, and RPM AND cruise data in open loop with AFR and load.

Be sure to throw in your vehicle information, modifications, and PCM type (Federal or California).

Just add water and shazam! In a few days to a few weeks you'll have a custom calibration with air/fuel adjustments for your car. Check your AFR's and if you need adjustments just rinse and repeat.

That's the cliff notes version but it's just that simple.

yeah, this really isn't that hard. and, considering it's FREE, i don't see what the complaining is about. ..although, i suppose if I had a turbo and couldn't drive the car until I got my custom tune, I'd be kinda bitchy after a month of not driving. But hey, I'm sure if you paid him extra $$$$ he'd make your tune on the spot, if you're in that situation.

your in left field dude i'm not talking about the simple stuff. the first post crap is getting used where it needs not.

question examples:
I want to know why v1c3a would show me an error code that is supposedly masked?
Is afr and lambada the same thing? if not then why does my computer tell me I'm useing lambada but i'm looking at afr readings?
How exactly do you want the follow up emails to look?
What will happen if I get a lean tune and get crappy ethanol gas will I run a risk of blowing my motor or what if I run race gas can I get an even more agressive tune
If i log with atr does it still need to be put into a graph?
these are just a few question that have been ither ignored or smart assed.
You can read a book all day on how to do sutures but i'll bet untill someone shows you step by step you'll screw it up. You know how easy it is for me to do a 1 handed tie with a running locking mattress stitch. I'm sure it's the same for jeff and the rest of you computer/ecu gurus.

I'm looking for a solution to help jeff out not make things more difficult than they already are! So stop getting all deffensive

The only problem is that some of the customers are not receiving that service within a few days or a few weeks, or even a few months. I'm sorry, that is a legitimate complaint. It's not a personal attack or insult, but if you purchase a product and all of the comments about "he is doing it for free" is wrong. His website shows that he values that service at $299.00 for "up to five (5) additional personalized customizations over a period of six (6) months". That fee is waived if you agree to purchase the tool through him, but it is still a service which is being paid for, in the case of people purchasing the AccessPORT it is a bonus added as an incentive to purchase through him.

Those of you who have purchased the tool and received quick service (days to weeks) will obviously have a much different perspective from those of us who have not received that same level of service. There is more to this than angry dicks and fanbois posting back and forth. Somewhere in between is a consumer that respects the issues involved, but is still frustrated by the lack of communication and service.

This is the problem. You know jeff sends this pretty email with instructions and I followed them by the book. And when I told him I had no way of datalogging he just told me to give him Idle AFR, cruising AFR and WOT AFR so I did. And he told me to send him what I wanted so I told him I wanted my cat check engine removed and I wanted tuning for the AEM CAI which I bought from BHR and have not been able to install it because of tuning. And yet im still here no tunning available.

I have sent him an email because I want to buy a set of injectors from him and yet no response.

So my beef really isnt that I hate Jeff or have a huge problem with him or think that he is stealing from any of us. Its just that I think communication is lacking and that affects it all. I really would have no problem waiting if I at least got a response to simple emails like do you have any injectors in stock so I can buy a set?

That is all, really I am still here hopefull because when I just get too frustrated I call Charles and he is there to talk and tell me that he will do what he can. If it wasnt for that little pep talk from Charles idk if I would still be trying.

i can answer a couple of these
1) no, AFR stoich is ~ 14.63(?) for gasoline, but every different fuel/blend will be slightly different, Lambda stoich is 1 regardless of what fuel is being used... google can explain the technical stuff if you want. the PCM does use lambda, your reading AFR displays cause its "easier to understand"
2) pretty sure its been answered dozens of times.... the format is in the first post iirc. any calibration related communication should follow that format, if you have more things to say then so be it, but following that template is a must
3) a lean tune followed by a crappy tank of as, ethanol or not, can destroy your motor. if you run race gas you can tune for it to see more power, but i wouldnt do it myself.... you gonna use race gas all the time?
4) it will help MM out greatly, he could take raw data and work with it, but if he accepts that from one person it sets a bar, so yeah he probably needs it graphed

You've been waiting months? Here's your post from August 15th.

A month and a half is hardly "months".
Not to mention, he explained that the new update screwed up all his maps, and he had to fix 1100+ (or as you would put it, "thousands").

I posted in this thread exactly when I purchased the item. Aug. 7th. That was my post at August 15th. I didn't lie, I said exactly when it was. Aug 7 - October 2 with no response to my queries is a long time, ...months in fact. Especially when my most recent request was for a BASE map that he has to do no additional work on at all. A request he actually responded to, to make a comment on my turbo choice... without sending the map.

Oh and "El Nerdo" I don't know who you are, but your post was needless and inflamatory. I've posted my concern here in this thread only because I haven't had any luck reaching Jeff any other way. I'm not attacking him and I don't appreciate being attacked either. Back off unless you have something useful to add.

Edit: Also, a key point... I was very happy with the new maps, until a few days after that post my catalytic converter practically lit on fire. I had to revert my maps and received no responses to my concerns about changes to the map that could have caused it. I didn't make a drama-llama post on the forum about it, I tried to get answers from Jeff via PM and email. Both of those avenues have failed which is why I'm even posting on this thread.

You said on the 15th

Based on that statement, I assume you had not logged any data.
That was August 15th. You implied that you may wait a few days to start logging "to get the LTFT to sort itself".
Before you had the AP, you couldn't request maps, because that would be stupid.
Without having logged data as of 8/15 you couldn't request maps, because that would be stupid.
So that leave 2 possibilities. 1) You started inquiring about changes after the 15th, or 2) You're stupid.
So I'm assuming you're inquires began a few days later when you removed the AP because of your cat overheating.
That puts you at 8/18. Still not months.

My post are not meant to flame people. They are meant to get people to stop
asking stupid questions, and keep this thread useful for AP tuning related things.
Jeff has said many, many times. Do not ask him about your personal maps in this thread, and do not PM him. Send the email.
If we removed all the off-topic/stupid/I can't follow directions post from this thread, it would be under 500 posts.

So, in an attempt to make this a useful post for the sake of everyone else that is equally as frustrated as me, here's a suggestion.

How about we make a FAQs post for this thread.
I'm sure many newcomers would not want to read 5000 posts to see if their question has been addressed before.
We could compile a list of common questions. Link it on the first post, and hopefully solve some issues.

Here are some ideas. Someone else may want to modify my answers. I don't do customer service.

Q. My car is stock. How much horsepower will I gain w/ the AP?
A. Although you may see some gains, the reliability and longevity of the engine is the real value in this product.

Q. I don't have a datalogger. What should I do?
A. Buy one.

Q. I just ordered my AP yesterday. Why don't I have it yet?
A. Refer to post #4283 - https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...postcount=4283

Q. Jeff I took pics of the AP displaying live data using my cellphone camera, and I email them. When do I get my maps?
A. Refer to post #4283 - https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...postcount=4283

Q. Did you get my email?
A. Refer to post #4283 - https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...postcount=4283

I began inquiring about things like getting FI maps before I had even received my AccessPORT. I received my AccessPORT on Aug. 7th. I was asking questions before that. That is months without a response. I started asking questions about my issues with NA maps shortly after that post on the 15th. That didn't get a response either.

This isn't rocket science. I'm not crying wolf and I'm not an idiot. I followed the instructions, but I have yet to get an answer for -any- of my questions including the ones related to going FI, which I had originally intended to do with a MM upgrade 3071. I have addressed this issue very politely and cordially in every forum I've been in, so I don't appreciate you coming here and calling me a liar and an idiot.

You mean people are sending emails to Jeff about maps before they own an AP?
No wonder this whole custom map thing is gone to hell.
As if the guy didn't have enough to do, now future owners are hounding him.

@Jeff,
When I see you at the Tri-state meet, I'm buying you a beer and a shot of jager.

If you are planning on going FI within a couple of months, why is it unreasonable to inquire about getting the AccessPORT with the NA maps and the FI maps for when you drop the snail in? That isn't odd or strange or cruel to Jeff... Its a pretty simple request, especially when making inquiries about getting his $1800.00 turbo upgrade to use with the maps.

It seems like people tend to mostly fall into two categories in this thread... either the "zomg I hate Jeff and want him to burn in hell becauz I didn't get my mapz" and the "Jeff is god and can do no wrong. Anybody that doesn't agree must have downs syndrome." The truth, like most things is probably somewhere between the extremes.

No wonder this whole custom map thing is gone to hell.

As if the guy didn't have enough to do, now future owners are hounding him.
I'm going to have to side with black on this one... he said he hadn't received it. Meaning it wasn't there in his hands, but he indicated that he had purchased it. So he owned one, but it was still processing/shipping.

That said, yes, he does sell the AP and advertise it to come with the tune service for free. And that's where it ends. He doesn't set specific guidelines as to when it will get done, so as long as he gets to you, that service will be fulfilled. Keep reminding him, but also have some patience. Some people on this forum have had to wait months for their product to even ship, others have ordered stuff and never heard back nor received it. Waiting for your tune can't be -that- bad unless you have a turbo in the car awaiting it.
