IT WORKS!!! I'm proud to be the first Canadian to verify that it for sure works! Anyways, I connected it following bander's instructions again, twice, it did not work and I almost gave up again, then I looked at the pins again, there were two pins sticking out. One in the middle and one on the side. I took the butt end of a ball point pen and jammed this pin back into the dongle. Then the third time I tried it it worked fine!! F*CKIN A!!!

I loaded the map and everything is fine. The fit and finish of this thing is far from an ipod or cell phone, but that's not what we're paying for. I drove the car around, and it still backfires like crazy, stalls and idles low, but my car is FI and I didn't get the maps from Jeff yet. So it runs like crap but this is the wrong tune. Anyways, this is great news, and now I'm not gonna sleep till Jeff emails me the tunes. JEFF, where are you???

I"m probably not going to try the reflash again until i open up this dongle and find out where the loose connection was and fix it. The last thing I want is for it to move and disconnect in the middle of a flash. Other than that, everything should be fine for Canadians! Oh my CEL dissappeared too!

I looked and sure enough, one of the pins on the dongle was sticking out. Check and see if this is the same pin on yours that was sticking out:

It's about 2 mm taller than the surrounding pins. I can push it back 1 mm, but it doesn't stay down. I can't force it down 2 mm.

That one would not go back in. Yours looks exactly like mine, and that is the same pin stickin out. I had another one stickin out similarly to that, but loose, on the right side, if looking at it from your pic. I jammed that one back in, so now that one looks the same as all the others, but the 'center' pin is still stickin out about a mm longer than the others (same pin as yours).

I don't have a small enough screwdriver to open this damn thing up, otherwise I can let you know what happened. I'll try and do this later tonight or tomorrow if i can drop by a home depot and buy a freaking nano screwdriver, lol.

i removed 3 screws. The fourth one was stripped and doesn't turn. So I couldn't open it up.

Got it using a wider phillips head...

The connection points aren't adjustable. It just wiggles. I hope someone from Cobb can chime in if it should be sticking out 2mm and be able to wiggle up towards the center of the dongle. The other pins do not wiggle around.

can you use a pick and pull the pin out from the backside? if the pin sticks out too far, can you just file it down a bit?

the point is that it's loose. So if it shifts position, then it's not connected and might explain why I randomly get the unable to connect error. This is still speculation. Even if I move the pin in deeper, it wouldn't make it sit any more solidly in that position.

you know, there may be a perfectly good reason for the pin to stick out a little further than the rest. i know on hdmi home theater cables, on of the connections is set back, purposely, so that that connection is the last one to be made, for synchronization reasons. please dont do anything crazy and ruin your investments

looking at something doesn't ruin it

I've manually assembled circuit boards and dealt with a lot of electronics. I'm not messing anything up.

i don't know what could remedy a wiggle...

i know on BMWs, some of the pins at the diag connector in the car can be pushed back. it'll cause poor connections and faulty communication errors, a real stumper when a customer is waiting...haha

i'm currently running the cobb reflash on my turbo car with the mazsport ignition. It does not appear to cause any conflict.

don't mean conflict but on a NA car, with the tuning of a custom map, can you pull better numbers with the addition of the Cobb with a Mazsport Ignition, or is the ignition solution at its best. Also QS., would it be better to go with the Cobb AP, or the Mazsport Ignition, my car is running a Mazdaspeed CAI, Exhaust, and RP supercat. I will have both soon, looking for one at the moment for most gains and practicality.

ignition is a weak point on the car, but power gains are not the point of fixing up the ignition, while tweaking the fuel management will bring in direct gains in power.

prospect I have both. I will report back once I get some readings.

If the readings say I can tune more I will advise. Expect two weeks for me to report back.

It's just a pin. Either its defective, poor assembly. You can silcone or glue the pin in place depending upon how bad it is and how much you have worked on PCBAs

That may be true but in this case I doubt it. Had i not jammed that pin back in, mine never would have worked. (the right side bottom pin). Although I still did not open my dongle yet.

Jeff, what flash version are you using as the base for your maps? This looked interesting.
