F1 needs a little bit more of that. Showing team mates being team mates.

F1 star beaten by 11 year old!

I found this article on Swedish Auto Motor & Sport. It is in Swedish and I could not find an English version of the article so I will translate manually for you. If you distrust my translation you can always use google translate

http://www.automotorsport.se/news/21...11-%C3%A5ring/

11 year old Lance Flanera is good at carting. So good that he beat one of the Ferrari star drivers.

When Ferrari was in Montreal for the Canadian GP the team went to a carting facility to drive some laps together with the youngsters of the city, among them Lance Flanera, 11 years old. Some of the more known competitors were Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso.

Lance Flanera who is not entirely new to carting had earlier during the day gotten drafted to Ferrari's driver education, but the question is if he needs it... Apparently the 11 year old Lance was a wonder child and ended seconds in the competition - which means he beat one of the F1 drivers.

Ferrari does not want to reveal who was beaten by an 11 year old, but we are guessing Alonso since Massa still is regularly carting.

In the name of honesty we have to keep in mind that Lance Flanera had an advantage of his low weight and recent carting experience, but no matter how you look at it, it is not bad driving from an 11 year old.

Pirelli lands F1 tyre deal

Pirelli has landed the deal as F1's sole tyre supplier for three years beginning in 2011, following a meeting of the FIA World Council in Geneva today.

Pirelli hopes for larger tyres from 2013

Pirelli says it would be keen for Formula 1 to move towards larger tyre sizes in the future, but not before the major rules overhaul scheduled for 2013 - and that it could make the change in gradual stages.

With F1's 13 inch tyres no longer a common size for road car tyre manufacturer, a possible switch to 18 inch wheels was much discussed during the debate over who will replace Bridgestone.

Damn cool! I have to do something similar to my helmet. Problem is that my helmet is open since it is for racing in a car.

Changes made to allow more overtaking in Formula 1

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/8756430.stm

From the article:
Formula 1 will attempt to make overtaking easier next season by introducing adjustable rear wings.
Pirelli as F1's tyre supplier from 2011
Banned the F-duct aerodynamic device
Amended the safety car rules for the end of races
Re-introduction of the 107% rule
The minimum weight limit of the car and driver has been raised by 20kg to 640kg. This is to prepare the way for a return of the Kers power-boost and energy storage systems which featured in 2009.
Overtaking will not be allowed if the safety car pulls in at the end of the last lap. (effective immediately)

Pat Fry switches from McLaren to Ferrari

Ferrari has confirmed on Tuesday morning that former McLaren Chief Engineer Pat Fry has joined the Italian team as Assistant Technical Director. The 46-year-old Surrey man departed the Woking squad at the end of last month and will now be working alongside Aldo Costa.

Having worked previously with Benetton as well as McLaren, Fry left the latter in May and will begin work at the Scuderia as July begins.

Drive like hell and keep the competition more than 1 second behind you. Because then they cannot deploy it against you.

Really I think it is a good idea. When a faster car comes up behind a slow car he can be held up until the pitstops. Here he has the possibility once he is sniffing the gearbox of the car in front to unleash hell on the straight.

Which opens for good counter measures since the car just passed is then less than 1 second behind and can try to counterattack. It can get exciting as hell with some wheel to wheel duels every time there is a pass.

Good Old Ferrari

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11006272...rari-criticism

The testing regulations will be clarified amid concerns Ferrari breached the "spirit" of the in-season ban.

Red Bull's Christian Horner this weekend accused a "naughty" Ferrari of breaching the "spirit" of the agreement by testing its new exhaust layout at Fiorano last week.

Ferrari argues that the run was allowed because "filming and promotional" activities were taking place, and FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh on Saturday said the teams association will react.

"I didn't think they (the rules) needed clarification, but for some they clearly do," he said.

"It isn't ambiguous in my English interpretation of it, but others obviously thought it was.

"That's why we have to remove that ambiguity, and I think we are going to do the correct and honourable thing."

Whitmarsh made clear that, like Ferrari, teams including Mercedes and Renault have also made "some arguable decisions" with regards to the rules about in-season testing.

"Once one does it then everybody feels 'well, if that's how you are going to interpret something, then I'll push it to the limit'," said the Briton.

He made clear that when McLaren tries its Red Bull-like exhaust layout next week, it will do so with one of its allocation of straightline test days.

Whitmarsh also thinks it is time F1 relaxed its approach to in-season testing.

"We had to take significant measures given the crisis involving the economy and formula one," he said.

"I think now, as we can see signs of the economy improving, we can go back to testing."

I think the testing ban should be lifted. But if they really want to control cost they should just eliminate the ability to upgrade chassis components. I suspect where a big chunk of the budget expense comes from is all that aero and chassis development mid season. If they froze the chassis and body panels after the first race but allowed testing teams could focus on optimizing setup for upcoming tracks but not spend the millions on aero and chassis development.

If teams complain about unfair advantages then do what every other series does. Add ballast to the winners.

That's my $0.02

Nice run from Hamilton. Two really fast laps to eliminate the drive through. Really exciting that he got out in front of Kobayashi.

Yeah but that's a shame, that was not a sufficient penalty. No more stop and go?
At least it was not Dominicali's fault, just Hamilton being unfair (or unconscious)

I think he was aware of it. He sped up all of the sudden when he realized the safety car was there. At least it looked like he sped up.

And yes Hamilton can thank his lucky japanese Kobayashi for retaining second place. But that is the way with drive throughs, they can have so different impact depending on the situation.

The beer bottle surely added excitement considering the safety car could have come out again. And then his drive through would have placed him last.

So the way I see it is that a drive through is given out and luck decides whether the penalty gets harsh or not. If Whiting and the others had been faster Hamilton would have been further back.

Muppet driving from Glock and Senna. They blocked Hamilton, Kobayashi and Button.

I missed if Vettel also was blocked by the silly duo.

The real shame is that they gave the penalty on lap 24 when the accident happened on lap 9. This delay really helped him!
He was an *******, i'm sure nobody can deny that and this delay further helped him.
Alonso was really doing a great race and Ferrari is blaming the situation and not McLaren for what happened.
Well maybe Hamilton will crash or retire somehow and justice will be served.
