Holy crap the closeup of the rims, CF! Video of tail lights, active aero maybe, spoiler runs across the lights and with the separation looks like it could be active aero.
Post 446 it looks like it started as a FD and sort of morphs into partial Z4 and little bit S2000.
With a fuel cutoff of 9000 we can pretty much ascertain that it will not be FI.
Anyone remember what the Evolve showed as a redline? If this car is about a year away that pretty much solidifies a N/A 2 rotor for production, along with a max hp of less than 300, sadly. That'll make two and a half decades after the FD's release, and a gain of a couple of ponies. Very pathetic.

It is a concept car. You are making definitive opinions against something that is essentially vapor. The fact is you have no idea what is going to happen.

Agreed.
For all we know, it's a hybrid that uses an electric motor for low RPM torque, or even uses the rotary as a range extender..
With Front: 245/40R20 / Rear: 285/35R20, and the rear on 11" width wheels, for the concept anyway, that represents a good bump in likely SkyActive-R RWHP. Wheels/Tires that size slow a car down unless there is abundant power & torque to compensate, plus supposedly needing that much rubber to get the power down. Unless it's all just posing, and the 'maybe' real deal is way dialed down.
When it spins around, you can see the rear turn signals as well, they almost look like they're attached to the rear spoiler but I think that's just an optical illusion.
A little 'unusual' that Mazda issued zero detail on what capacity RE was/is in it, everyone has been assuming it is a 16X (including the media), who also said it had an electric turbo.
Again why Mazda would not say so perhaps confirms just how far away they are.
As the CEO said today there are many engineering issues still to be invented/solved.
So far we don't even know if this RX-VISION actually has any engine in it, or it drives.
I recall the Taiki concept/proto in 2007/8, that was a 16X but it did move on it's own power.
The RX-01 was announced in 1995 with a 2 rotor 13B MSP RE.
Then the RX-Evolv in 1999 and it's Renesis which became a reality in 2003 RX-8.
Do I believe the VISION will be a reality, well yes in some form, even Mazda recognizes that the people want a RE as it's main source of power and not a hybrid or as a generator (like Demio RE).
Which is exactly what I have said from the start, I would never buy a electric/hybrid as they just do not interest me, period.
I am certain more details will leak out over the next week.
Power? Torque? Capacity? Economy? He wouldn’t put numbers on anything, directing me instead in the direction of R&D chief Kiyushi Fujiwara, a man who I’ve got some time with later. You can probably guess what my line of questioning is going to be, so have another strong coffee and stick with us through the night to find out what he says.
For now, here's some final thoughts on the press conference that Mazda used to unveil the RX-Vision. It was as packed as any press conference I’ve ever seen, yet it was also perhaps the quietest I’ve ever attended. It was an almost tense atmosphere, one filled with nervous excitement.

You're right, we have no idea what they're going to put under the hood, but . . .

We can only go by what executives at Mazda have been quoted on saying :
(as I posted earlier tonight) “In 2017 it is the 50th anniversary of the Cosmo Sport [Mazda’s first production rotary]. Therefore we want to announce something in 2017 – and not a concept car.”
If production was to be 4 or 5 years out then pdxhak may have a point (which would give us opponents of anemic power levels subsequent hope), but if they're announcing the car for or in 2017, the show car looks to be very close to showroom. Although no technical data is available for the engine in the concept yet, it is understood it will be a pure rotary, with no electric assistance, as had been speculated. But Fujiwara says advances in technology will allow for superior efficiency – always a big criticism of rotary power.
He contined: “We realise the fundamental structural problem of the rotary, but recently new materials have been developed and also some measuring, sensing, technology has been updated. We can analyse the combustion in the engine by computer. We can control the ignition system or the injection system in the computer, and [see] what kind of economy can occur in the engine. That kind of technology can help us to new materials, a new ignition system or a new shape for the rotary.
“Hybrid is one future possibility for rotary engines but at first we have to show the rotary engine itself to the fans. Two years ago we showed a kind of usage of the rotary as a range extender, but many of the fans complained.
We can only by where things stand now, from the horse's mouth.
I REALLY like the back of the concept but I'm not so sure about the front end... never was much of a fan of the present generation 3s and 6s front end. At the risk of being flamed, I'm a little bit of disappointed by the concept, although I wouldn't kick it out of my garage! :-) It's just that it did not impress me as much as when I saw an RX8 for the first time. Anyway, time will tell...

It's a concept for a reason haha. The looks will get refined if this thing is actually gonna be produced.
Check out the difference between "RX Evolv" (the original RX-8 concept), and the actual RX-8!!
I have high hopes because the RX-8 was actually much sexier than the concept but I remember how cool the FRS concept was with talks of a STI engine, etc.
